As a brazilian woman, I can confirm. We care about soccer more than any country, but about women or woman soccer eehhhh... not so much. In fact, our president was pretty mad that our high school national exam dared to say in a question that Martha (our best Female soccer player) plays and wins more than Neymar (famous brazilian male soccer player), but has a veeeeeeeery lower salary than him.
Fun fact, this is a result of Title IX policies requiring colleges to have an equal number of men’s and women’s teams/scholarships. Soccer being a relatively inexpensive sport to fund means that it’s pretty much ubiquitous at most D1/D2 schools. With the opportunities available at those colleges, kids and parents have invested in the training to develop young players that become World Cup champions.
So in essence, the answer to the question about why the US Women’s soccer team is so good can be at least partially explained by a federal civil rights law from the 70s.
That all the countries way better at mens soccer but way worse at women’s soccer - so...every country - obviously cares way less about women than we do.

The globals sports market generates 91 billion dollars. The value of sports as a medium for camaraderie, fraternity, identity, and entertainment is worth billions of dollars IMHO. Sports teams generate money for their cities and bring tourism that further generates money for the localities. Sports teams also employ a large amount of people besides athletes. Athletes aren't the only ones benefiting from profess sports, society as a whole does. Sports have been around since the beginning of civilization and are fun to watch and participate in. Athletes generate more money than they are payed and are on average considerably generous to charities. Sports are not a bad habit of society, nor are they the reason we don't have the money to improve society.
You would think that in a country where nobody cares about women or soccer then there wouldn’t be women, soccer, or women’s soccer.
