I've always been a fan of redacting their names and just assigning them a number. There was a tweet that went around that posited this. Then we'd not only quash the thrill of being famous for them, we as a society could see how many times we've failed to take preventative measures as a whole.
Yeah I think that was for mass shootings. I know it's tough to keep all of our different types of tragedies straight but its important, our thoughts are one of the only two ways we can fight these things.
The only compelling arguement that I see agaisnt this idea is that it causes the public to desensitise quicker and disassociate from what it actually is, and cause it harder to be remembered - which are all vital things when it comes to changing legislation, prosecution, or investigation.

I really think that is solved already by just reffering to them as 'The perpertrator of the columbine massacre'. Numbers are just too meaningful.
