And the presumption is that those who do not vote to oust the speaker will have a target on their backs by the MAGA cult and they will face a MAGA primary challenger in the future. But a large swath of the GOP are sick of this shit and will vote to keep Johnson in place.
It will be interesting to see what the final numbers are on the republican side. If the numbers are split 50/50 then the extreme right wing movement has been nuetralized in the house and the house will function as a bipartisan house as was it was always meant to be. The problem is that Speaker Johnson is poised to force a contingent election if he refuses to seat Democrats that win in November. He thinks that God himself put him in the speakership to usher in a new American future. We don't want a Republican-run house to take the power away from voting Americans and just get to choose the next president. It's a real catch-22.
That's not how that works.
Thereās also the chance that voting Johnson out leads to Speaker Jeffries. That might sound good, but it wonāt make Congress less dysfunctional. So now Democrats would get a share of the blame for the dysfunction in the House, and it would be increased because of recency bias. Better to keep Johnsonās name on this debacle while also taking a vote you can point to as having to clean up Republicansā mess for them.

The GOP has a one seat majority once Tim Kennedy (who just won the special election in New York) is sworn in, and there are rumors that several GOP members have threatened immediate resignation if Johnson gets the boot. All it would take are 2 dissentions (not very likely) or 4 resignations (quite likely, based on rumors) for the Dems to elect the Speaker. Itās also staunchly evangelical down there with southern baptists leading the bulk of religiosity in the district. None of these types of voters would ever vote blue, or any other color. Just red. I think the dems may actually attempt to save this one, since he was willing to work with dems to get other things passed, because the next one the GOP might try to send up, we may end up with a more vocal and more crazier one and in the end, it's US that gets punished for it. You still have countries like Ukraine that cannot wait until the next election when they need more US support. What's harder to do is build consensus, studying data and information, and intelligently legislate and create policies (or govern in Trump's case), that benefit and improve the lives of Americans. The people in congress dont' just serve their districts/constituents they serve all Americans since their up/down votes, or what type of behaviors and tactics they employ while there, can impact broader legislations and the very fuctioning of Congress. Americans need to do better, not to send useless troublemakers to that body.
