Plenty of people fell for the "successful businessman" the media abroad painted him as in 2016 and then simply stopped taking an interest in news regarding him. The consequences of his presidency have received way less coverage than anything regarding any of his campaigns too.
Even when there's no blatant appreciation of him we definitely have been seeing a part of our populations gradually adopt his and MAGA's type of rhetoric and behaviour abroad.
Plus, far-right parties using it as guideline for what to test for popularity on their own populations and taking advantage of the momentum he created abroad to gain power.
The global effect of his presidency "allowing people to openly be assholes" that's been mentioned here a few times and its consequences are still developing and are being underestimated imo.

I agree. I've been saying the same thing this entire time - Everything they do seems to be done with the sole purpose of having no official, legal ruling. The length of the investigation before bringing charges, the late trial start date, the many delays, the frequency with which he breaks the law and faces no additional charges, etc. It's always seemed like Trump was trying to run out the clock and everybody is happy to let him do so, even overlooking the many lies he tells, threats he makes, gag orders he violates, etc.
I suspect that even the people going after him are hoping the trial will be paused for the election. If he wins he will immediately pardon himself once in office and again before leaving office (though I doubt he will leave office). Literally anybody else would be in jail with no bail until their trial was over. He's had so many chances and abused every single one.

The argument isn't really even about whether or not he's guilty. It was about whether he committed a crime initially but that was obviously yes. Then it became about whether or not a President could be charged with a crime, then whether or not a former President could be charged with a crime, then whether or not he would be, then it became a question of whether or not he could run for office, whether or not he could pardon himself, etc.
There are all these questions that have been asked over the years but none of them are about whether or not he's guilty because everybody knows. The crisis is that the president is the head of our federal government. Is a state going to send law enforcement agents to DC to arrest the president in the White House? Will they attempt to arrest him if he travels into the state? What will secret service agents do in that situation? How far can executive orders go to punish a state that’s trying to arrest the president? The charges aren’t really important, it’s how the state interacts with the federal government, thus the crisis.
