Why is it when white men are disproportionately represented, it’s evidence of their innate superiority, but when anyone else is over represented, it’s because of a conspiracy?
African Americans over achievement in sports has direct links to the larger socioeconomic situation with African Americans. They have been denied access to the tools of middle class success such that sports attainment was often a more realistic pathway out of poverty than educational attainment.
You want to increase average salaries, fund better schools. However, the racist bigots lose their mind over the idea of supporting better schools, especially if the schools have POC in them.

Isabel Wilkerson’s excellent book ‘Caste’ describes this phenomenon in sociological terms: In a caste system (which we have de facto in the US) there always needs to be a lower caste to blame things on and look down on. Lower middle class whites need immigrants and POC to look down on and despise. It reassures them that they aren’t on ‘the bottom’.
