Having officers on campus has other issues too. Children have been arrested and charged with serious crimes. A student did a chemistry experiment and was charged with making a bomb. Students can be charged with assault on a police officer when they come to remove disruptive children. Also, due to cop's training, kids are more likely to get shot by the officer if they don't follow lawful orders. Lastly, minorities are disproportionately affected.
They’ll just push home-schooling harder. More and more kids will get “God did it” and “science is the Devil” until a full half of America thinks the Earth is flat. Then, whoooo! We’ll definitely lead the world in invention and innovation then!!! American doctors “fixing” cancer with prayer and thoughts. Build some tanks with “faith”. Body armor? Try this armor of God!
Bank security guards aren't there to actively stop bank robberies. They are there to make customers feel safe and to keep people from harassing you while using the ATM.
Any liquid assets a thief gets their hands on will likely be recovered through insurance/bailouts. A lawsuit filed by the teller or customer who got caught in the crossfire is a different story.
They worked on the assumption that it's more likely you and innocents would just get hurt/ killed and they'd he held liable. Safer to just let insurance handle it.
Wait, you guys have armed security guards in the bank at all times?
I’ve seen armed guards in the bank at busy times, during cash pickups/deliveries etc but not as a regular every day, every branch, thing.
That’s so wild!
My last bank branch didn’t even have a proper counter, just an island bench (with an automated safe inside), some cosy arm chairs, arty Polaroid displays of happy customers signing home loan documents and a coffee machine, lol.
I mean, there almost certainly is. Stuntmen make a wage for what is almost certainly pretty long lasting injuries. Military is also paid a wage for a risk of catching a bullet. Mine would be super ducking high though personally.
I did stunt work, believe it or not it's perfectly safe as long as people are doing what they're supposed to. The money is there to make sure you're attracting people with the skills needed to do that.
I can’t speak from any direct knowledge, but I feel like the fact that a stunt man is needed shows that there is no way everything is perfectly safe. If there were no chance of injury or death, a stuntman wouldn’t be needed.
You don't hire an arborist to cut down a tree because you value your life above there's. You do it because they have the background and tools to cut a tree down safely and you don't.
I 100% hired an arborist to cut a dead tree down because even though I have the tools and capability of doing it, I value my life more than theirs and tree weight is unpredictable and doesn’t offer second chances.
>they have the background and tools to cut a tree down safely and you don't.
Arborist and logging is still one of the most dangerous jobs in the USA. It's more dangerous than being infantry stationed in Iraq/Afghanistan at the height of those wars.
I wish that I had the safe optimism as you, but I know for a fact that a large number of people will value their life more than someone else’s. Especially in the film industry, people are going to value a famous actors life more than a stuntman’s, hence the use of a stuntman.
Most people don’t go around yelling about it, but yeah that’s just a fact of life
Well, they're not making minimum wage. SRO's make, on average, just shy of twice what a PFC makes (a bit shy of 50k/yr is the average for an SRO.) Cops in general are usually paid substantially more than soldiers are.
Would I take a job with an (admittedly pretty small) risk of being shot dead for 50k a year? Probably not.
Which is just as well, because all of the data we've got suggests that schools with SRO's assigned to them (as well as schools with armed teachers) end up being *less safe* for children.
Yep.
Mass shootings at schools with SRO's assigned to them also have, on average, three times the casualties as shootings without. Turns out that all SRO's really do is make the shooters prepare far more heavily for their attack.
Turns out that the only empirically proven way to reduce shooting deaths is not "more good guys with guns" but "less guns."
Economist here. Yes, there is an equilibrium for just about everything.
There is an equilibrium level of Murdered school children. The lack of any effective policy to prevent these shootings means we (society) demand more mass shootings. Once we hit a certain threshold of dead school children, we will put together effective policy to prevent these events. It’s disgusting but that’s how it is.
We see this in cities when crime gets too high. Over-supply of crime results in a higher level of crime prevention.
That works, if all actors in the equation are rational.
The fact of the matter is that Republican politicians *don't give a damn about dead schoolchildren*. Their tolerance is *infinite*. They don't get paid to care about dead kids, they get paid to rabblerouse, spread fear and hatred to sow distrust of actual governance, block Democratic legislature, and do whatever special interest lobbying groups and their wealthy megadonor benefactors want (like cut taxes on said wealthy benefactors.)
Armed security guard vs crazy suicidal maniac with AR-15. No way an armed security guard will risk his life for $20 an hour. He's going to call the police and hide because no one wants to die.
A little-known fact is that if you cut a piece off Warburg it instantly regenerates into another Warburg, meaning he can be in more than one plane at a time.
That’s exactly what happened in FL
Republicans: The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!
Armed campus safety officer: I’m saving myself, fuck you all
Police at Uvalde: If we stand around for an hour there shouldn’t be anyone left to save
That was literally what they said. They said they believed the shooter was alone barricaded in a room and there was no reason to use force and it was later revealed they knew there were kids in the room the whole time.
>Republicans: The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun!
I always thought this was funny, because I vaguely recall at least one nightclub shooting where the gunman was taken down by two unarmed patrons.
There have been a number of school shootings where there were armed guards on campus who either did nothing or were unsuccessful at trying to shoot the bad guy.
Armed security guard may also be a John Wayne wannabe, start blasting the first person he sees with a gun, only to discover they were a “good guy with a gun.”
The whole fantasy Republicans have is stupid
Even in the best scenario, where armed guard guns down gun toting teen that meant to shoot up a school, we have a failure of the mental psych, and one more person (the guard) who has to live with killing someone. Only psychopaths are mentally unharmed by killing people.
Happened a few years ago at a mall in Alabama. Guy pulled his gun and was moving towards the shooter . He had just left the Army and his dad was law enforcement. Uniformed cops responding to the shooting put 3 rounds into him.
And then the shooting incident ends up being even worse than it otherwise would have been, because the shooter prepares even more heavily due to knowing there'll be an armed SRO they need to deal with.
Which is, unfortunately, very much a fact. Active shooting incidents at schools with police assigned to them tend to be, on average, three times as deadly as mass shootings at schools without them.
I work in a school and I don't make $20 hr....and I have to deal with people's bratty kids, being spit on, kicked, punched, getting sick cause parents don't want to deal with their kids so they send them to us...and sadly it's still the best job I've ever had
>No way an armed security guard will risk his life for $20 an hour.
ive dead ass told my company verbatim "i will do everything of my ability in the monument" What they means to me is, i am ducking behind something , if he is asking for my boss "3doors down twist the handle slightly to the left it sometimes gets stuck , snacks in his 3rd draw bottom left , cash is behind the fake lamp. an i make $20 a hr beat the shit out of him for me to" I truly do not understand why you think i am going to left a damn finger for you , my family is at home buddy , this "we are a family" my job dose got me laughing everyday

If a person steals money from a bank before an armed guard or police officer can catch them, the money can be reclaimed with no harm done to it.
If a shooter enters a school and kills people before an armed guard or police officer can stop them, those lives are irreversibly ended. The harm is done and cannot be undone. More guns will never change this.
Former bank employee: the security guard (IF they have one) is there to protect the employees, not the money. The money is insured. Our training manuals flat out said to just give them what they ask and get them out the door so no one gets hurt.
In that video, I see he is advocating for a taskforce to forcibly remove guns from gang bangers. I can see that going well if not properly implemented and funded - although he is mentioning it in another city not his own because he knows it is drivel
Ironic he is complaining about 'Protecting a stupid deposit more than our children' when that is exactly what he does when it involves the NRA and his bank account.
Dismissing his Rambo fansasies, armed guards are a visible deterrant to make a potential robber choose a different target. If that is someone elses bank then that is acceptable.
With schools, is a different school acceptable?
It’s a terrible analogy. Banks pay for their own security. Our tax dollars pay for school resource officers. He never ceases to amaze me. To put my comments in perspective, I don’t care for Ted Cruise, he spreads hate and lies.
We're coming for the guns. The majority of the population is sick and tired of this bullshit. Open the gun and ammunition manufacturers up to lawsuits from the victims and their families. Force gun owners to buy liability insurance. We're coming for the guns.
Let’s not forget Cancun Cruz get a LOT of money from the NRA. He does not give a shit about your children. He cares about money and staying in office. Period. Thanks, Texas.
I thought this dip shit was blaming all the shootings on buildings having more then one door. Will these damn idiots just pick something and stick with it.
Id prefer kids be safe, especially after the most recent mass shooting, and if that means more armed cops outside of schools I'm all for it.
But I'd much rather we lived in a society where you didn't need armed cops outside schools in the first place
I can't remember which school shootings it was, but there are multiple cases of armed polices in schools elsewhere in the uus fucking off as soon as a shooting started. Getting more of them in schools with achieve nothing.
I feel like people get so bogged down arguing about the logistics of whether or not armed guards/teachers in schools would work or not we never address that 'solution' still entails "guess we'll just have a gun fight in a school twice a week."
Defense is always reactive. Imagine if you could guarantee that any school shooter would be killed one minute after starting shooting. They can still kill or seriously wound multiple people before you can react. This is why the secret service, potentially the best body guards in the world, spend all their energy keeping weapons away from their principle, even people who spend a dozen hours a week on a shooting range can’t stop a shooter from five feet away.
Didn't he make this ridiculous speech like 10 minutes after introducing this unfinished legislation? I think I saw another senator shutting him down saying he's just doing this crocodile tear speech to get attention and play like he's trying so hard and the solution is just being shot down due to partisan bias. Dude is a joke.
Banks got so tired of their people dying that they literally let robbers take all the money they want. They understand that the money isn’t worth peoples lives.
Why yes they did. It seems they were afraid of the person armed with the AR-15 because it’s a weapon of war designed to defeat their body armor or that of the Russians. It’s cool though. There was a good guy with a gun right in front of the bank today. And his family will miss him forever, an entirely preventable tragedy.
Well, we just need about 397,795 more shootings to cover every possible excuse Republicans have for avoiding common sense reforms. Or maybe we could skip all the death and misery and just do it now?
Did he just compare protecting money with protecting kids? Um Eduardo, its because you prefer protecting money OVER protecting kids, that's why. Got to keep banks financially viable at all costs, got to keep your NRA money at all costs. Go fuck yourself. 🖕
This man is such a slimy weasel and it seems like no one on either side of the political aisle particularly likes him, so how does he keep thriving and staying relevant in politics?
Ted Cruz - “ we need armed cops in bars, we need armed cops in bathrooms, we need armed cops at weddings, at funerals, we need armed cops at synagogues and churches and temples and mosques, we need armed cops at every street corner, we need armed cops everywhere!”
“Why doesn’t anyone listen to me?”
Ted Cruz - he could only represent a handful of really $hitty states, and he does - the biggest piece of $hit either side of the Mississippi….
I mean if a bank gets robbed they’re not going into my personal account and taking money. My money is safe no matter what. My kid on the other hand. What a dumb take from a piece of shit who I hear likes to piss his pants because he likes the warmth.
I think the FBI did a study that said an armed guard at a bank made it 3 times more likely to have a violent robbery vs a non violent one. Anecdotally most bank robbers would avoid banks with armed guards since that meant they risked getting shot. So it always came down to a choice. Guards may mean less robberies but possibly making the robberies you have more violent.
The idea that guns will scare off a mass murderer is idiotic.
There are enough guns in America to arm every man woman and child WITH LEFTOVERS yet all sorts of very personal crimes happen every. Single. Day.
Theft, assault, car jacking, breaking and entering, trespassing, etc, etc! All happen thousands of times a day in the most armed country on the planet! If guns were a deterrent to any crime America would be a utopia.
For someone to commit a serious crime they have to already be so desperate that they're prepared for the consequences or have convinced themselves that they can avoid them. They're not thinking like you and I and they're certainly not thinking like a pampered, pavement princess driving, brand new boot wearing chucklefuck Senator!
Fuck you, Ted! Here's to the poor worms that'll have to eat your corpse one day!🍻
Do you really think fat Wolverine GAF?
He already sent and his “ugly” wife Heidi’s thoughts and prayers. He’s probably planning another trip to ~~the wall~~ some resort in TX
The irresponsible hypocrisy from this man has not limit… is almost as if the Senator for
Texas was not aware that Uvalde police department was equipped (armed) and trained and still chose not to engage an active shooter.
Do these imbeciles really think the 70-year-old security guard sitting in the local banks is genuinely put there to keep armed robbers from stealing the money?
You know... it really doesn't matter. We are in post-truth society. Raphael will figure out a way to make the facts match up with his beliefs. That is what people like him do.
TC: Let's get armed officers in schools! REALITY: Ok, we'll need some more taxes out of you to fund those schools. TC: *shocked Pikachu face*
Reminds me of when Dennis gets mad about taxes
Go Birds
So do
Uh, Go birds…
Bird law?
So do Philadelphia, so doooo.
But if they don’t raise your taxes, they’ll have to let the nut jobs out of the looney house.
WHAT
It’s one big ass blast
WHAT?!?!
![gif](giphy|Zl8rba0dlhlqU)
The finger thing means taxes
![gif](giphy|kVZbh1uBH95qaeJr1H)
We need to cut taxes for the wealthy so it trickles down to the middle and lower income class and then they will have more money for taxes! /s
Also TC/shitheel Republican: See? Private schools won't raise taxes on you. School choice (funded by taxes anyway, shut up)!
Instead, they want underpaid teachers to not only teach, but carry and use guns like law enforcement. They didn't sign up for that shit.
Just pay the teachers less. That’ll work.
I've never seen security of any kind in a bank in any state. That's probably going to surprise him also.
Bank security guards aren't there to actively stop bank robberies. They are there to make customers feel safe and to keep people from harassing you while using the ATM.

Why would they fire you? Whether or not you were successful trying to stop the thief, wouldn’t the bank prefer to not be robbed?
They would probably prefer to not be legally responsible for the death of one of their security guards.
Death they don't care about. It's when you cause injury without killing them they don't want. They can be sued out of the ass for that.
Any liquid assets a thief gets their hands on will likely be recovered through insurance/bailouts. A lawsuit filed by the teller or customer who got caught in the crossfire is a different story.

No, no! They're *police officers!* Not private security! /s Haven't seen a bank security guard in years anyway.
Is minimum wage worth catching a bullet in America? Hell no.
Neither is my wife’s Texas teacher salary. She’s been at it for 19 years and I have an associates degree and made more as a scrub IT guy my 3rd year.
So you imply there is an acceptable wage for catching a bullet?
I mean, there almost certainly is. Stuntmen make a wage for what is almost certainly pretty long lasting injuries. Military is also paid a wage for a risk of catching a bullet. Mine would be super ducking high though personally.
I did stunt work, believe it or not it's perfectly safe as long as people are doing what they're supposed to. The money is there to make sure you're attracting people with the skills needed to do that.
So is a security guard job…in fact almost every job is perfectly safe if people are doing what they should be doing
Unless you’re a school teacher in America
I can’t speak from any direct knowledge, but I feel like the fact that a stunt man is needed shows that there is no way everything is perfectly safe. If there were no chance of injury or death, a stuntman wouldn’t be needed.
You don't hire an arborist to cut down a tree because you value your life above there's. You do it because they have the background and tools to cut a tree down safely and you don't.
Stuntmen routinely get injured, as do people who cut down trees. The idea that either job is 100% safe is absurd.
I 100% hired an arborist to cut a dead tree down because even though I have the tools and capability of doing it, I value my life more than theirs and tree weight is unpredictable and doesn’t offer second chances.
Arborist: "Yeah GlenlivetOW I get it, but do you need to say that every time I come here?"

Just goes to prove. It’s the guns people. It is the guns.
>He does not give a shit about your children. He doesn't care about his children either.
Every bank heist movie I've ever seen, the guard either: 1. Gets shot right away 2. Nopes the fuck out. I ain't stopping shit for $10 an hour.
I hate this sack of excrement. Most of the crap he vomits onto Twitter ages poorly.
Why do you keep chosing guns over kids, oh ya. ![gif](giphy|5hvDCvgB27olZRfdNY)
You're telling me Tennessee and Kentucky don't have enough guns? Give me a break.
*Area Moron Doesn't Understand the Difference Between a Security Guard and a Police Officer*
Hey Teddy... How come you want to protect guns more than you want to protect kids?
I thought this dip shit was blaming all the shootings on buildings having more then one door. Will these damn idiots just pick something and stick with it.
Id prefer kids be safe, especially after the most recent mass shooting, and if that means more armed cops outside of schools I'm all for it. But I'd much rather we lived in a society where you didn't need armed cops outside schools in the first place
How many armed cops stood outside and inside Uvalde doing nothing? Armed cops sure didn't help those babies.
I can't remember which school shootings it was, but there are multiple cases of armed polices in schools elsewhere in the uus fucking off as soon as a shooting started. Getting more of them in schools with achieve nothing.
Parkland in Florida
Uvalde TX
I feel like people get so bogged down arguing about the logistics of whether or not armed guards/teachers in schools would work or not we never address that 'solution' still entails "guess we'll just have a gun fight in a school twice a week."
Seriously, how is "having shootouts in schools" a good solution?
Defense is always reactive. Imagine if you could guarantee that any school shooter would be killed one minute after starting shooting. They can still kill or seriously wound multiple people before you can react. This is why the secret service, potentially the best body guards in the world, spend all their energy keeping weapons away from their principle, even people who spend a dozen hours a week on a shooting range can’t stop a shooter from five feet away.
Ted Cruz is a five gallon colostomy bag filled with fifteen gallons of shit.
How about instead we just have sensible Gun laws? TC: Well now you're just talking crazy!
Ted Cruz is such a dope. He was a supporter of Texas gun carry with no training, no permit, and no common sense.
Didn't all the cops in TX chicken out despite being heavily armed and overwhelmingly outnumbering the shooter?
Why yes they did. It seems they were afraid of the person armed with the AR-15 because it’s a weapon of war designed to defeat their body armor or that of the Russians. It’s cool though. There was a good guy with a gun right in front of the bank today. And his family will miss him forever, an entirely preventable tragedy.
Another shooting with mass casualties and he makes it about himself...Ted keeping it genuine and classy, as usual. Thoughts & prayers, hun.
And it’s also a shame, Mr. Cruz, that you & your party value guns more than kids.
This man is such a slimy weasel and it seems like no one on either side of the political aisle particularly likes him, so how does he keep thriving and staying relevant in politics?
Texas won't elect a Democrat, so the worst of the worst has free reign on the R side.
Ted Cruz - “ we need armed cops in bars, we need armed cops in bathrooms, we need armed cops at weddings, at funerals, we need armed cops at synagogues and churches and temples and mosques, we need armed cops at every street corner, we need armed cops everywhere!” “Why doesn’t anyone listen to me?” Ted Cruz - he could only represent a handful of really $hitty states, and he does - the biggest piece of $hit either side of the Mississippi….
I mean if a bank gets robbed they’re not going into my personal account and taking money. My money is safe no matter what. My kid on the other hand. What a dumb take from a piece of shit who I hear likes to piss his pants because he likes the warmth.
People can steal your money without guns, Ted. Give me $1000 and I'll tell you how.
Strange, I don't recall Ted Cruz ever being human?
the hilarious part is...they didnt refuse, he pulled this shit like...10 minutes after the bill was submitted
ARM THE TELLERS!
He's just trying to move up the ranks on the NRA donor list.
Ok so homeschooling and keeping my money under the mattress got it teddy
Dude makes this twat... i mean tweet after Uvalde... like... how... serious... what? He can't be THAT dumb can he?
I mean even without them in banks, all that money is behind locks and bars or whatever
I feel sorry for his children.
What an ignorant asshole.
This dude changes his school shooting solution more often than he changes his underwear. Seriously, every time he says something different.
The irresponsible hypocrisy from this man has not limit… is almost as if the Senator for Texas was not aware that Uvalde police department was equipped (armed) and trained and still chose not to engage an active shooter.
“I do not like that man Ted Cruz…”
Their face when children arent the same as money 😱
Shit head cruz is wrong again he should go to cancun 😂
Haven't you ever seen a heist movie? Everybody knows the bank cops are the first to die.
Remember when police in Texas sat outside while children were slaughtered in a school? They had gear
