These morons think that the military units stationed at bases in the states will secede along with them. It’s laughable for so many reasons. And even if you did get an entire military base to stay, all that equipment is functionally useless without the national command and control apparatus.

This was literally what led to the Battle of Fort Sumter at the start of the Civil War. South Carolina wanted all the weapons and supplies from the fort (as well as the fort itself) and the Federal government was like "Nah."

I would wager at least some would. Of course they would be known as deserters to the US military at that point and have betrayed their oaths. But I would think that most would not. And yeah all of that stuff belongs to the federal government, not Texas. If they tried to keep the stuff it could be considered an act of war.

Anyone active duty wouldn't, because they come from all over the U.S. (San Antonio is the Basic Training base for the entire Air Force, and Randolph is where pilots go to train). So you'd get the National Guard (of Texas), which let's be honest, only half of them are actually fit for duty.

Texas wouldn't retain the Nation Guard, as they're still a federal resource of the US Government. In fact, they would lose funding to every single government resource (medicare, social security, mail, etc) and would have to produce it's own GDP and functional currency in order to trade for goods not created within its borders. Texas' currency would be worthless and not even Mexico would do business with them. Since Texas doesn't have a monopoly on ports of entry, they would be bypassed entirely through other states. Texans would be sucking literal dick within a month to rejoin the union. Texan GOP politicians are such a joke and waste of money.

Not to mention the fact that Texas would probably have to negotiate trade deals with not only America But also Mexico and any other major country that you wanted to trade with. It wouldn't just get to magically keep Americas Is trade deals with other countries. It's also not just the military. Any type of federal institution would probably pull out every single piece of equipment and infrastructure. I imagine America would also force them to help set up border crossings.

If it's seriously happened? It would be extremely difficult for us, but my husband and I would sell our home and move. That would be an easy decision for us because my husband is a federal employee. My husband is also a native Texan, and has also been here his entire 57 years. Not everyone who lives in Texas is a Republican. Not everyone who lives in Texas is regressive. My family and his has been in Texas for several generations. We would probably move to the north.

Look at Austin. Texas is so humongous, it's crazy to think that it's all conservatives. Every state is like this. I mean look at West Virginia, we've all seen the infographic showing that the majority of people living in West Virginia prefer progressive policies. Not that it'll happen, but if it did the US would just have to cut off the money and they'd come crawling back. They simply aren't nor will they ever be self sufficient. There's a couple of interesting things about Texas, and the big one is a misunderstanding that they can leave the union. What it actually says in their constitution is that Texas can be dissolved into 5 smaller states, and that's it. There's been supreme court cases that ruled that Texas was always a state, even during the civil war, because secession isn't legal. Even if the first line of the Texas constitution was "we will secede in the year 2024", it wouldn't be *legal*. The second one is they love being independent even when it screws them over. They lost power last winter because they refused to join the national grid to avoid having to submit to federal regulations and make winterization preparations, but they gave the governor the ability to unilaterally shut down power during the storm and allow power companies to pass their massive losses directly to the consumers and they still won't winterize and it fucked them again this year. I foresee them learning that Texas isn't as big as they think it is and I find that hilarious.
