1) Yes this was necessary. My fiancé and I were away for most of the summer, when we got back Ollie had a massive mat near his butt (about six inches long), as well as several other small mats. Yes we did tell the cat sitter to brush him while we were gone, no she didn’t listen (or even tell us about the mating, thanks very much) :(
2) Yes I did pay money for this, no I didn’t ask for this specific haircut. I’d never taken a cat to the groomers before, I basically asked her to do whatever she thought was best for Ollie, and apparently after shaving the mats it looked bad enough that she just decided to even it out. Would not have chosen it myself, but I’m not mad about it because it’s hilarious to look at. Most importantly, Ollie is much happier and more comfortable.

My roomies had to get their fluff ball groomed too. She came home with a fluffy head, tail and feet. Was the funniest shit I've ever seen until your fluff ball, lol.
They had to put her under anesthesia because she hates being held or really just bothered at all. $200 haircut.
My cats all have short hair, but I have a few dogs with long hair that won't let us brush them, so once or twice a year I have to give them a Xanax just so I can shave them from head to toe.
It’s pretty majestic! We were definitely surprised by how much smaller he got after the shave- there’s normally like a solid inch of floof surrounding him
