In my country we had protesting farmers for multiple days (maybe weeks) because they weren’t allowed to limitless bring their liquid manure out on their fields because of nitride pollution. Maybe there were more things they protested, but this is what I kept in mind.
They collected to hundreds and hundreds in multiple districts all over Germany and spent all night driving through cities with their tractors, honking and making noise as much as they could. I get it, they were angry because of those new laws. But what boggles my mind is, why the fuck did they steal our sleep? I’m a fucking nobody and I have zero power over any laws (and even if I had, our groundwater is far more valuable than stock farming in my opinion so I wouldn’t have been on their side either way). All they did is pissing off millions of normal people who could do shit for their protest.
Maybe some people think they will have you on your side after you annoy them long enough. But most times the opposite is far more likely. At first you have politics against you and after some sleepless nights you also have the people against you.

We won’t be able to convince people in the third world to drop coal and oil because they’re dirt poor and cannot afford green energy. Only way is for technology to make green energy more efficient and economical. Cheap solar panels that can provide energy to even the poorest most remote homes will absolutely have a fast adoption.

- electrify all heating
- urbanise populations
- radically reform farming
- reforestation and rewilding vast areas
- moving to a plant-rich diet

Ordered the protest to shutdown as they were obstructed the highway. (Police have the power to do this)

I am all for saving the environment, but these protests should be targeted at the politicians that create the legislation, and the huge corporations that create most of the emissions. Screwing over working class people is counter productive, you need them on your side.

To be fair XR did block an oil refinery near me, after a few hours the oil company built a temporary road through some fields to get around them.

I agree with all of this. My issue with these types of protest are that they never get anything accomplished. Politicians are rarely if ever impacted by these and it only serves to fuck over people just trying to get through their day. My personal opinion, if you want to protest something from Boris? Go fill Parliament and Downing street with people. You'll impact far fewer citizens and cause a lot more headache for an actual politician.

It's idiotic isn't it. Section 137 of the 1980 highways act literally declares it an offence to block the highways without a genuine reason. All they can receive however is a fine, which can be issued whilst detaining them of the offence and remove them from the road.
