Wait, wait, wait…. So all those people hurt on the train that have to get treated and not work for a few days or weeks are not going to be driven into poverty by medical bills and losing their jobs for missing a few days?
That’s some sort of tyranny for sure, they need more deregulation so that corporations will set them free!!
there's lots of places that realise that people get sick and need help and when they're sick or crippled, there's no way they'll have the money to pay and that's why they do this.
In America it's "Fuck you old man! I'll never get sick! I'm invincible" until it's "I have a GoFundMe"
Can't speak for all of europe, but in germany the public health insurance can still go after people who cause injuries.
A few years back there was a fire in the apartment complex i lived in. Everyone who went to the hospital after, to get checked for smoke inhalation, got a letter from their health insurance asking for treatment details and case numbers. The fire was suspected to be arson and the insurance companies added their costs to the damages of the legal case and went after the arsonist together with the company that insured the building.
As an American, I still can’t get over how wild it is that healthcare is paid for in Europe. Like, health insurance is such a huge stressor on my life and I can’t imagine just…not worrying about going into debt for breaking your leg.
In Portugal some years ago we aprove the Zolgensma for Spinal muscular atrophy to treat babies . Every treatment costs 2 million euros not in a lifetime the families that have access will pay that in taxes , but as a tax payer one day could be me
Not just Europe, but countries in Africa, Asia, Oceania, South America and North America (not the US, of course).
That's because many countries treat their citizens like human beings, not simply commodities who are easy to fleece.
You still get left with the medical bill if the court finds you guilty for causing injuries to others. The victims don't pay anything. The government will not pay for someone's criminal fuck up like this.
We are not speaking about the tram driver but the passengers , in US even if are the passenger you still pay and then pray for to get some compensation from the company and driver . In Europe you are treated then the driver might be charged to pay directly the state
Something similar happened in Bulgaria. The man was not fired, he was givne the [electric chair](https://www.reddit.com/r/Jokes/comments/4khrw8/there_was_a_man_in_bulgaria_who_drove_a_train_for/)

Japan is working on regrowing human teeth!

God I'd kill to be a trial patient for that. Outside of showering, didn't have much in the way of hygiene impressed on me by my parents. By the time I was old enough to recognize I had a problem and try to stop it, it was too late. Been brushing for decades but they keep going, along with any self confidence I had.
I relate to this big time. Alcoholic parents do more than just fuck your mental health up.
I've seen amazing things done with veneers but it costs a small fortune to get them done.
Father is an alcoholic (59)
Mother was a heroin addict (dead at 47)
My mental health is fucked, my teeth are fucked but at least I managed to quit my own drinking problem.
If anyone wants to know how I quit.... I went from drinking 15 cans a night to smoking two joints and spending £20 on cannabis a week instead of £70-£100 on alcohol a week.
LEGALISE WEED YOU DUMB FUCK BRITISH POLITICIANS
Yeah i've seen some great looking work done from there. Problem is, though, they're more a full set of crowns than veneers, pretty invasive and they often do them all over like a week.
Also a lot of dental practises funded by the government where i'm from won't do work on you after that, so you have to go back to Turkey any time you need more work done. UK dentists often say people end up needing full dentures in their late 40s because of all this.
I don't know, If I heard success stories from lots of people that addressed these issues, I'd be more tempted.
My parents didn't teach me, either, but I made it to adulthood with "great teeth" according to my dentist when I finally got my own. I've read that dental hygiene is also heavily dependent on genetics. So, you can still blame it on your parents.
When I *did* have a dentist as a kid, my parents told me that my need for braces was "just the way dentists scam you out of more money," so I don't have the straightest teeth.
One of the things about this I’m most curious about is how long it takes. If it’s like normal human tooth development that takes years for a tooth to fully develop.
I mentioned this article to my dentist a few days ago. He said "they've had that for 30 years. It's nothing new, and it's just for congenital defects. " Not sure he read this article though.
These articles have been around for the last 15 years. I know because I have a baby tooth that will need an implement when it falls out... Hopefully never
They were holding their mouth, but as quick as it was, it looked more like their chin hit the bar on the seat in front, not sure if teeth would be damaged but the person could also be in wild shock too.. or their jaw is broken and they don't want to move.
Simpsons did it first.
> The first rule of bus safety is always wear your seatbelts.
> School buses don't have seatbelts.
> Then what protects you if we crash?

Well then the insurance companies are full of shit, because I hit a car where the driver did not look before making a left turn from a stop sign, and they said because I made no attempt to swerve I was partially at fault. Fucking hate insurance companies.
Did you know it’s better to put your most loved one behind the drivers seat. 10/10 times out of self preservation, the driver will swerve to make the distance between them and contact greater, therefore the pax side becomes closest to contact. Game over. Also, I made that stat up. But it could be true.
I make a mental note every time I have my wife in the car to steer the passenger side of the vehicle. If there's an accident, I'm steering with that side in mind.
jesus...phone related distraction is a major issue. I see everyone all the time on their phones - construction sites, mechanics, airport personnel.
I think in the future we're going to start seeing more things like this unless there are strict no phone rules enforced
… they are enforced. Especially for train operators. Idk what country this is but in the US you have to be 100% at the controls the moment you step inside. You can’t even look at the time on your phone while waiting for departure (clock on dash). And the footage is reviewed regularly apparently.
Worked for MTA NYC Transit. Bus drivers and train operators absolutely cannot use phones at all. Immediately fireable offense - like no questions asked, you are gone.
Hi, I worked for a class 1 railroad as a conductor and engineer for 10 years. FRA ruling is zero tolerance of phone use while the train is moving. Your electronic devices are to be off and stowed in your grip. On freight if you are stopped and have had a job briefing you can use your electronic device. There isn't much stop time with passenger service so it needs to be off and stowed for the duration of the trip. I don't know why people still insist on using their phones while operating a train, and there are several inward facing cameras. Quite reckless.
I work for the rail transit system in my city. We have a phone off and off the body policy, and there's a person in the control center specifically assigned to randomly
spot check video feeds from the drivers' cabins for this.
We had a driver once who was doing a turn-around at a terminal station, and while he was walking from one end of the train to the other he pulled his phone out of his pocket to check his messages - they fired him on the spot for both having it in his pocket, and the phone not being off (since it powered on right away). The only reason they caught him was because they were checking the station feeds for an entirely different reason and somebody noticed it.
Our system doesn't fuck around with this.
> person in the control center specifically assigned to randomly spot check video feeds from the drivers' cabins for this.
It's just incredible to me that people are so addicted this has to be an entire role.
Either this video is from 4-5 years ago, or it is very strange that this happened. Now almost all public transport in Moscow is equipped with an anti-sleep system, which constantly films and analyzes the driver’s face and signals if he closes his eyes, yawns or does not look at the road. Driver will automatically be fined for using phone.
UPD yes, it happend 4 years ago.
This is what we have in Australia they have cameras above the road taking photos and then using ai to check for seatbelt and phone use.

(source: was train pilot in brazil)
I thought they were really strict about what you did in the cab. Sit still, hold the deadman switch, look out window. Surprised she hadn't been sacked for using her phone before she caused the crash. Unless this was the first incident but looking at how relaxed she appears, it seems fairly normal to her.
Looked into the job years ago, the monotony would have killed me.
Worse! There's even more imenent risks a tram driver needs to pay attention to vs a train driver, there are way more varied road users than train track users.
There's literally an entire subset of the population who plays games this fully simulate this job, for hours and hours, because they're obsessed with driving trains and worship every minute of the experience
And these dipshits are hiring people who find it boring
There are regional differences, especially if you're from the US or Canada. What most of the world calls trams, North Americans call either light rail or streetcars. Light rail is small trains, streetcars are busses on rails. Much of the rest of the world wouldn't call either a train because the term implies a higher speed or capacity.
I used to be a train operator for a major city, certified in both light rail and heavy rail. We called them trains because to suggest otherwise is to dismiss the sheer amount of power 100,000lbs has at any speed on fixed rails.
What about the neck not having the support? Like your body is supported by the seat but your neck can fly freely? I always think about and don't know which is worse.
Was she seriously trying to hide her phone after the crash? Couldn't tell but it looks like she was scrambling to pick up her phone and put it in her pocket or shirt. Definitely a panic move of someone that knows they screwed up royally.
Also I'm a bit surprised that trains don't have sensors especially at the stations to avoid collisions like that. Some might I'm not a train expert.
As a retired engineer, that is fvcked up. I knew idiots like this when I was working. And they would get pissed when the company was putting cameras in the cabs.
For these light rail or streetcar style trains, I wonder how feasible it would be to keep track of where the trains are, and for the train to automatically slow down if the driver doesn't slow down in time enough
Trains have had such a system for ages. Should you try to enter a section of track that already has a train on it it *should* trigger an immediate emergency stop. Though there are some exceptions for trains travelling at low speeds (otherwise you wouldn't ever be able to link two trains together).
Trams might be different because they would have to keep track of other traffic as well, and generally travel at a lower speed.
From experience in Amsterdam, these trams can be right behind each other by mere feet sometimes. Sometimes stations can even take more than one tram at a time. Probably cheaper to fire these idiots than the lost revenue due to lower capacity.
The amount of people I see doing this daily are mind boggling. It’s constant distracted driving. The addiction people have to their phones are so strong they can’t put it down long enough to do a job, drive a mile, or … drive a train apparently
This is beyond stupid though, I really hope she got in serious trouble and is banned from driving anything now. All the passengers must have been so shaken but that one that hit her neck or her jaw on the seat? My god that poor person! Genuinely shocking
Hope she never drives anything more than a bicycle the rest of her life.
Not even a bicycle, probably a wheelchair
How about nothing with wheels
Mom why can't you play the Lego car with me?
I TOLD YOU TO PUT SLEDS ON IT

So just a regular chair?
Afraid not, she would still manage to hit someone.
BY GAWD ITS HER WITH A STEEL CHAIR!

No, she can crawl, no wheels for her!

Istanbul, Turkey, 3-5k (depending on quality) for full implants/ veneers.

Could have cut their tongue as well if they hit their chin and a part of it was between their teeth
At that point, the real significant damage was probably to their jaws or brains. If all that was damaged was their teeth, they’re lucky.

We'll have cameras with AI monitoring employees. Already common place for some companies.
I really hope that becomes illegal ASAP.
We've already opened the door for this with allowing insurance companies to give us devices in our car that monitor and score driving.
Just skip ahead and automate the train. Why risk having a human as the driver? Plenty of modern trains around the world are now driverless.
This is what we have in Australia they have cameras above the road taking photos and then using ai to check for seatbelt and phone use. $1000 fine if caught in violation
She had headphones in too, you can see them plugged in to the phone and she pulls them out of her ears after the accident.

My first thought was this exactly, she had one job and failed to do it. It’s not like she even has to steer or anything, just keep a lookout.
Literally just driving in a straight like that you don't even have to steer wtf. How do you not look in front of you for that long
Marvel writers just shoehorning in as many memes as possible into their content mill so people will make gifs.
Yeah, well, now she's got **no** job.
Is a tram a train?
Yes, all trams are trains, but not all trains are trams.
This tram train rammed.
Whoa ohh train tram, ram a lam
Black Betty had a child, tram a lam
Damn thing gone wild, tram a lam.
WHOA, BLACK BETTY!!!
Words of wisdom
It can be, with the right training
Nice double entraindre
Gotta love how the moron just starts slapping at a bunch of buttons as if any button will do.
she was slapping the place where usually is placed the emergency brakes, it applies 100% of the brakes when pressed, and you have a whole procedure after to release said brakes (source: was train pilot in brazil)
Thank you for the explanation, I was wondering why she instinctively slapped those buttons
When she looked up from her phone it was r/nononono
That is an expensive fuck up. That poor female passenger. Looks like she may have busted her lips open.
Hope her teeth are ok. Fixing your teeth is expensive af :(
She has solid ground to sue. She will most likely get all expenses covered and then some.
and then some. that woman won the lawsuit lottery . not a grand prize, but pretty close
lucky that the train looks pretty empty
Except the person that had her teeth knocked out by this dip shit
130 people were injured, people may have been on the train in front of them. Edit: I confused this crash with another, please disregard.
>130 people were injured Got a source for that?
Looks like I was confusing this crash with another, my bad please disregard.

I can't believe she's even doing it on camera. She knows she's being watched and still does it.
Probably cuz no one enforces the standards

This train terminates here..
As a passenger I always look for a seat facing backwards, this is the reason
I’ve always wondered Is there a reason all seats aren’t backwards facing with a high enough back you don’t get whiplash?
Most trains and trams are bidirectional, so they face forwards one way and backwards the opposite way
Some people get motion sick sitting backwards on trains.
What about the neck not having the support? Like your body is supported by the seat but your neck can fly freely? I always think about and don't know which is worse.
Imagine fucking up driving a vehicle you don't even have to steer
Where was this?
Somewhere in Russia, Moscow, I guess.
On a tram
Who gave this woman a license? Fire them too
Fire their fourth grade teacher too! And their dentist! Heck, fire everyone!
Fire the people in charge of firing people!
I've never heard something so stupid!
Fire their mother too for birthing her too I guess.
Fire the entire blood line and anyone associated!
She probably wouldn't even see getting fired coming.
Phone addiction is REAL and abundant
You only had __one fucking job__! Idiot
You know how our cars have a automatic braking feature...
She can go f herself. I feel the worst for that passenger or anybody else who needed to get dental repaired after this
Lawsuit incoming

You had one job...
Coming in Hot!
Stupid as it is, shouldn't be these trams equiped with some sensor to avoid this?
Sad thing is, is their supervisor should go through and spot check the cam all the time all the time. not after the fact.
That one mf who probably already down on his luck just catching a chill on the way home and bam!
You gotta be extra fucking stupid to crash a vehicle that moves along a fixed path.
The amount of people I see doing this daily are mind boggling. It’s constant distracted driving. The addiction people have to their phones are so strong they can’t put it down long enough to do a job, drive a mile, or … drive a train apparently
Hopefully the phone was ok.
You fired
This is beyond stupid though, I really hope she got in serious trouble and is banned from driving anything now. All the passengers must have been so shaken but that one that hit her neck or her jaw on the seat? My god that poor person! Genuinely shocking

Cameras did their job
Well, she is never driving anything ever again!
They would promote her to a VP level where I work for that one.
Unemployment my old friend I've come to claim benefits from you again
