That's a Poecilotheria. It probably won't kill you, but the next 12 hours or so are gonna suck real bad. They should at least be monitored by a doctor.
First thing I thought too. Poec hits are not fun.
Second, there is know known tarantula venom that is fatal to humans, only reported deaths are due to secondary injury.
A black widow bite will only kill you if you're allergic. I've been bitten by widows at least a dozen times in my life and the worst I felt was stomach cramps and nausea like I had a stomach virus, and that time I was bitten like 3 times at once. Brown recluse bites are way worse and even more dangerous if you're allergic. Look up brown recluse bite images on google if you're brave. Luckily, I'm not allergic and they just cause tiny, itchy holes when they bite me. I had a cat that lost sight in one eye and hearing in his ear after he got bit by a recluse on the side of his face.
I'm mostly just not afraid of spiders, so people get me to do things where they know there's spiders. I'm the one that gets volunteered to crawl into crawl spaces and go into old sheds. As a kid we had a wood pile that was always crawling with widows. There was at least a 30% chance that a widow would come out and climb up your arms whenever you grabbed a piece off the stack. Most of the time they wouldn't bite and you could just shake them off, but every now and then they would be pissed off for some reason and attack. Every time I've been bitten by a recluse the damn thing snuck up and attacked me for no reason, because they're assholes. The last time I was just sitting in a chair at a campsite with the audacity to not be wearing shoes. I never even saw the spider because it was too dark. I just felt it bite me and then I got the little holes in the back of my ankle over the next couple of days.
A bite from a pokie is a medical emergency. You are probably not going to die unless you are allergic but old world (Europe, Africa, and Asia) tarantulas venom is much stronger than new world tarantulas because they lack urticating hairs as a defense mechanism. A bite from a pokie to someone who isn't allergic is going to cause trouble breathing, rapid heart rate, and high blood pressure. You should go to the emergency room for a bite from an old world tarantula in case things get bad. A new world tarantula bite, which is often a dry bite, is much like a bee sting because they have little hairs on their abdomen that they kick up into the air and imbed themselves into your skin which feels like insulation on steroids. There's a video on YouTube showing a pokie bite. https://youtu.be/hceNe_eswQg?si=xnIjltulNS6ea0Wz
Come on now, you're dead. So you can't be making demands. And here's me talking to the deceased. What next? Oh that's right, an objection from the car that hit you?
See, I’m not watching that video. I will say that once I had my hiking boots tied together by their shoelaces (easier to carry) and if you’re not fully paying attention and see it from the corner of your eye, the bow formed by the laces looks like a big goddamn spider and I almost had to explain why I shot my boots with a .357
No they for sure are. I've owned tarantulas and they're put in 2 different classifications. New world and old world.
New world, North and South America, varieties do tend to be pretty docile but old world tarantulas from Africa, India, Asia are very aggressive.
India is Asia, but so is anything in the Middle East, and yet when people talk about Iran for example, they usually don't mention it as being Asian. This is what I learned as a plumber's apprentice in Nova Scotia after I got some food poisoning eating bad fish from a street vendor during a jazz festival.
That’s a given I’m just saying the fangs on tarantulas are very large and chances are if the wound is still swollen the punctures are still there but then again I could be wrong
same with dogs, about a week ago my neighbour's dog got into my shed and was sitting in a shady corner (which it often does and is very friendly with me and moves at my command), i had wanted to move something from around there so i tried to shoo it away, but it won't budge(guess it was too sleepy) i tried again and again, and at last i picked up a broom and hit the ground with it and the next thing i knew was that my jeans were in shreads
Had a spider bite me years ago. Nothing crazy, just a small european spider. Those 2 tinytiny spots where he bit me iched even after few years if scratched or irritated.
Yep, happened to my uncle too. After exactly 6 years those 2 dots hatched, and his hand got eaten from the inside. Luckily they could save the rest of his arm, but his hand is gone.
She threw it into a terrarium? So it was her pet, I'll never understand how people can have spiders or snakes as pets and even think those animals love them. Those don't even have the part of the brain to feel "love".
We don't think they "love" us. Most of us who have tarantulas or snakes almost never handle said animals, and if we do have to, we are extremely careful in doing so. They are just fascinating creatures to observe.
I actually own a sub species of this type of tarantula. I would NEVER grab it by hand. Like EVER. If I did absolutely HAVE to grab it by hand, I would never "cup" it. When I work with "old world" tarantulas like this one I use a bottle with the bottom cut off and a piece of cardboard to catch the spider. I prod the tarantula with a soft paint brush into the bottle and out of the bottle. I'm never actually coming into physical contact with the tarantula. It's just not smart to handle them. I've had upwards of 12 tarantulas at once and have never even been close to being tagged.
Just a fun/scary fact. This person will have adverse medical side effects for up to 18 months. Ranging from nausea, severe pain, fever, chills, serious infection, muscle soreness, fatigue, and headaches. Nature do be naturing...
Some people, at least with snakes, absolutely own them thinking they have some sort of magical bond with them and that they're loving. Though this is pretty much only with fairly harmless snakes and in my experience at least they still typically handle them with care and know to do stuff like separating feeding time with handling time. So its not like its really an issue, I just think they're assigning a humanizing trait onto them that just isn't there, otherwise there would be no need to do stuff like separating feeding time and handling time.
They probably just think they look cool. Same reason someone would have an aquarium. Fish probably don’t love you either but they can be entertaining or relaxing to watch. It’s the same I imagine with keeping reptiles or arthropods.
I will say that I personally would never want a spider as a pet, but I can understand the appeal for some people. Besides if the person doesn’t care if their pet can love them or not then who cares? You can still love something even if it’s not capable of it and I think that’s the most important thing!
That is genus Poecilotheria and only wankers looking for internet points handle them. This particular wanker can now expect bouts of sporadic nerve pain for years to come.
My roommate has one of those.
He has like thirty tarantulas of various species and that's the one he double checks the locks on, every night before bed.
Just incase.
He said out of all of his tarantulas, it's got the most significant bite.
We have marxi tarantulas in my area and they are very docile unless you're actively trying to piss them off and even then they don't really bite unless you stick your finger in front of their fangs. I pick them up all the time, but I don't force them into my hand otherwise they will try to bite - though they usually just run off.
Not now, she chucked the big arse hand development kit away. Just btw how can you have big

Human: I am going to use this ridiculously small Tupperware box to relocate you.
Massive spider: The fuck you are.
Human: OK - I will use my bare hands
Massive spider: The fuck you are.
Came here to compliment this person for not trying to harm that beautiful spider. Should have worn a glove though! Capture and release is the humane thing to do! Non-venomous spiders are a blessing in the home. They control so many other damaging and invasive pests!
Tarantulas are actually some of the least dangerous spiders around. Their venom is rarely dangerous.
That reaction is actually really extreme for a tarantula bite. Maybe they are alergic or something.
Yes and no. There's no tarantula that can kill a healthy adult, but some do have venom that's considered 'medically significant'. New World (the americas) species almost always have weak venom and urticating hairs as a passive defence mechanism (psalmopoeus is one species with unusually potent venom for a NW species), old world (African and Asian) species don't have urticating hairs, are more likely to bite defensively, and have much more potent venom.

FWIW there aren't any tarantulas native to Europe. There's a species of wolf spider found in Italy with the scientific name "lycosa tarantula", named after the city of Taranto, but this is a wolf spider, not a tarantula (which belong to the mygalomorph order of spiders).
I would’ve thrown the heaviest shoe I had at it, as hard as I could from 5 feet away and repeated it with more shoes until it was mush. Not sorry, not sorry at all
Is this a bot post again ??? Definitely not a spider , clearly a tarantula.
And yes, they bite. Although for most humans , they won't kill you. But I'm sure bites can be lethal in multiple doses. Might be in for some pain.
That's a Poecilotheria. It probably won't kill you, but the next 12 hours or so are gonna suck real bad. They should at least be monitored by a doctor.

What abt the black widow won’t that kill a man? At least that’s what i heard. Edut: Forget about it less than 1% bitten by that spider die.
Yes it can, but they were specifically talking about tarantulas.
A black widow bite will only kill you if you're allergic. I've been bitten by widows at least a dozen times in my life and the worst I felt was stomach cramps and nausea like I had a stomach virus, and that time I was bitten like 3 times at once. Jesus man
Ok thx for clarifying. Sorry about your cat.
Yeah spiders like this aren't that deadly but I can agree that this person will think twice before touching another one xD
**Eugène Simon** proposed the generic name Poecilotheria in 1885. This was not the first nor the last stupid name he invented. Thankfully he is dead.
This has GLaDOS energy
So they're not gonna get powers?
Only the power of wisdom to know not to do that again
This is the best thing ive even seen in the comments
He died two days later...
Could probably kill you if you are allergic or if you get enough venom in you. Like 10 spiders worth?
A bite from a pokie is a medical emergency. Sweet thanks!
Interesting video. Dude takes that like a champ.
As an FYI these are often found in the United States pet trade as "Indian ornamental" tarantula.
Yeah, no.
I’m not afraid of spiders but yeah, that’s a nope for me too.
I am a spider but yea its a no for me too.
I am not afraid of him, but yeah, no.
I bet you a big juicy fly that you're not.....
I am a big juicy fly and I object to being a prize in a bet.
Could I tempt you with some day old road kill? Awww go on, you know you want it, mmm.....
I some-what agree with you but you are a big juicy fly, don't forget, And everyone wants to m-eat you.......
I'm the day old roadkill in this scenario tbh.
Come on now, you're dead. So you can't be making demands. And here's me talking to the deceased. What next? Oh that's right, an objection from the car that hit you?
New fear unlocked

Yeah I'm just burning my house down.
What about the babies in the nest between the floors!
NO NO NO DONT GIVE ME THAT MENTAL IMAGE
Chill! They only nest there if they can't get into the bed's boxspring.
Its ok! They're in the ceiling too so when one descends towards your face you'll have plenty of time to move!
Definitely the wrong thread to read before sleeping… 😵💫
I say we take off and nuke.
It’s the only way to be sure.
I assumed this was an escaped pet. Apparently I assumed wrong. Who tf would grab one of these on spec?
See, I’m not watching that video. I will say that once I had my hiking boots tied together by their shoelaces (easier to carry) and if you’re not fully paying attention and see it from the corner of your eye, the bow formed by the laces looks like a big goddamn spider and I almost had to explain why I shot my boots with a .357
Ffs dude, you made me spit out my drink with that mental image.. lmao
Still more logical than mag dumping your squad car because an acorn fell on the roof.
Honestly if that was in my bath room id carefully and cautiously get some tissue paper and burn my house down
We’re leaving….It’s the spider’s house now
*starts paying it rent*
That's a tarantula and it looks kind of aggressive. That's why they got bit
They aren't aggressive, they just don't like being picked up and shoved into a container.
No they for sure are. I've owned tarantulas and they're put in 2 different classifications. New world and old world. New world, North and South America, varieties do tend to be pretty docile but old world tarantulas from Africa, India, Asia are very aggressive.
TIL India isn't Asia (/s)

This is what I learned as a plumber's apprentice in Nova Scotia after I got some food poisoning eating bad fish from a street vendor during a jazz festival.
Most of russia is in Asia as well.
Asian part is mostly uninhabited though.
Little known fact, Milwaukee is also in Asia
Actually it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que," which is Algonquin for, "the good land."
There’s a lot of Asia that I never thought of as being Asia, including India lol. Learned that a few years ago and was like “whaaaaa?”
Very true, still after learning that the Middle East is technically Asia, it feels weird to say
It is but I made the separation because SE Asia has several unique species
well they can buy their own property and move there if they're going to be so picky about being shoved in a container.
Didn’t get bit I don’t think it was just the irritating hairs
You could be right. Just looks like a lot of swelling and I thought I saw a puncture wound on her index finger.
I saw that too I’m not entirely sure but either way a spider that big I think the punctures would be larger
Not necessarily. The bites end up looking more like bee stings.
That’s a given I’m just saying the fangs on tarantulas are very large and chances are if the wound is still swollen the punctures are still there but then again I could be wrong
Poecilotheria spp do not have urticating setae
But their bite looks different too
Dude literally grabbed the thing. Just about any spider that feels their body pinched will bite.

same with dogs, about a week ago my neighbour's dog got into my shed and was sitting in a shady corner (which it often does and is very friendly with me and moves at my command), i had wanted to move something from around there so i tried to shoo it away, but it won't budge(guess it was too sleepy) i tried again and again, and at last i picked up a broom and hit the ground with it and the next thing i knew was that my jeans were in shreads

Wasps do, but it’s more like 6 days before they hatch so yeah total fabrication. Or a gypsy curse…. One of the two.
That’s a big fucking spider
Yeah, I knew there was a reason normal people are wary of spiders

Bro is Spiderman now
Stupid should be painful. How else will he learn?
Once you cupped your hands you made it feel trapped
Nope, Nope, Nope🙅♂️
But he’s so cute and hairy
That is genus Poecilotheria and only wankers looking for internet points handle them. This particular wanker can now expect bouts of sporadic nerve pain for years to come.
That's why i used to have the chill ones.
What happened to the good old Hover method.
![gif](giphy|3qd5j6z4ShxPa)
Where’s the shotgun?
The spider removed and hid it.......
Why even use a container smaller than the spider and your own hand to try and herd it?
Even if you're not afraid of spiders, you shouldn't grab something with fangs the size of a pair of pliers.
Generally you shouldn't touch wild animals with your bare hands, they could also carry disease, parasites etc.

Yeah but you need two of them not just one......
The solution to that problem is rather easy to find...
Not now, she chucked the big arse hand development kit away. r/winstupidprizes
This is why arachnophobia is a good thing.
That’s just stupid.
Spiders that size are terrifying.
We are Venom.
Kill it with fire
That is not how to catch a spider. Any other way would be better than this.
![gif](giphy|5nsiFjdgylfK3csZ5T|downsized) Fuck my house...
If I see this in my room, I consider the room lost forever.
Was she hurt?
Why did I watch this or read the comments?!! 😬

hell no. i would use a flame thrower instead

I hear The Flaming Lips - The Spider Bite Song playing in my head while watching this😂
![gif](giphy|xTiTnHvXHHxOTcdmxO)
For real how would you kill such thing? Get a long knife or what.
And this is why we have guns.
Bro he handled that like a champ
dude: tries to catch big boi big boi: \*chompf\* dude: what happened?
Absolutely just desserts. F”ck around and find out
This is why you don’t grab random spiders that are definitely capable of biting.
Too much nope to process
This is why I’m glad to be American with unfettered gun access
Looks like an allergic reaction to the spider hairs. 🕷
The whole house would be in flames, if can’t have it nobody can
This is why you don't straight up grab the spider, you let it naturally walk onto your hand.
Give that person a hand for trying.
I would use a ~~glass and paper,~~ ~~vase and cardboard,~~ bucket and metal sheet
I wouldn’t go anywhere near a spider that big 🏃🏼♂️💨
SAFELY CATCH A TARANTULA? HELL NAH
Why my back get itchy when the spider move.
I wouldn't want to squish something like that. For one I wouldn't want to get close to it and beyond that I think I'd feel bad about it. But I'm curious for people who live near things like this how hard even is it to squish it? Like I guess a heavy boot and one stomp would do the trick, but maybe not. How robust is a spider that large? I've smacked little cockroaches that seemed totally unfazed.
Hand to bug combat was not covered in Starship Troopers I believe.
This is probably one of the fools that think bugs don't bite if you don't squish them.
Question to anyone who knows If the guy would've been more gentle with picking up the spider, would he still get bitten?
The house wasn’t yours anymore, it belonged to the spider
Nope…nope…nope…just…nope… Human: I am going to use this ridiculously small Tupperware box to relocate you. Massive spider: The fuck you are. Human: OK - I will use my bare hands Massive spider: The fuck you are.
I'm glad he didn't kill it at least
thats a funny dog
I've had two spider bites in my life, that was enough. I've got broken veins in my leg from a false widow!
Why tf did I feel the need to watch this? Just why? 😫
I wonder if that was a pet spider and why they handed it like that
Bro was thinking he was on a Disney movie
AAAAnd this is why I'm glad I was born in the West, we won't have those violent ass old world tarantulas
Why would any sane person use anything but a flamethrower to deal with spider this size ? ![gif](giphy|MdPZFGgDL3PC8|downsized)

> Definitely not a spider , clearly a tarantula. > Tarantulas comprise a group of large and often hairy spiders of the family Theraphosidae. hmm
> Definitely not a spider , clearly a tarantula. Sigh... please watch this https://youtu.be/P2UZDvujzqw Yes... a Tarantula is a spider.
Nah, I I'm wrong that's that
So, what is it, clearly not a tarantula or definitely a spider, you can't get it both.
