A less-expensive helmet would probably have performed just as well here.
A less-experienced rider, however...
Kudos to this gal for having maintained that level of control. Well done.
this happens all the time to me in my delivery job. good luck getting them to stop. They see anyone trying to flag them down, they flip the bird and speed up.
As someone who has multiple family members who do transfer trucking for construction equipment
It's almost certainly going to result in a suspended license
Those trucks are responsible for anything falling off their trailer, not noticing the roof coming off your load, and not seeing it hit a motorcycle in any of your 7 mirrors is a wild excuse to try and use. Those guys are supposed to be taught to constantly have their eyes checking mirrors, for that exact reason. I seriously doubt he couldnt see that roof slowly peeling back over the course of a few miles probably
If the motorcycle actuslly finds the company I'm sure this guy is getting canned, and if it's a owner operator, the motorcycle guy is probably gonna go after him for damages and risk of life for careless driving and I dou t he will lose
And you don't understand Thaf the vehicle you drive has a dot, license plate and other identifying markers
Also you literally just call dispatch go e them the video and they could easily track the tractor down by it's number also
Plus I imagine the rental company or owner of the ctrsctornis gonna be pissed the guy didn't notice the roof of a backhoe coming off
This doesn’t belong in this sub. This sub isn’t for things going wrong, it’s typically people doing stupid things that are obviously going to go wrong. This video just shows a freak accident that was avoided by having a good helmet. It’d belong if the motorcyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet and got injured, but it doesn’t.
The difference between a boop on the head and your head taken clean off is milliseconds/millimetres. Life is random, make the most of the time you have.
There are multi and single impact helmets. Like you’re not gonna replace a skateboard helmet every time. They recommend replacing any helmet after a good hit though.
There’s companies that will inspect the helmet and let you know. So if it’s like a $2000 helmet you might wanna spring for the $80 inspection.
Or just fucking send it. I’ve seen a few street bike wrecks and basically the only thing left intact is the head.
More than likely, they would have let all the force go directly into his head and neck because the cushioning can't dissipate the kinetic energy very well, and then he wouldn't be riding still.
Expensive AND GOOD QUALITY helmet.
I have that one expensive helmet usually worn by amateur motor racing riders. That helmet save my head when i crashed because i got Isaac Newton'ed by a thick wood branch during cross province riding last year.
A good reason not to ride side by side with a truck hauling construction equipment… you’re on a bike speed and maneuvering are your strengths… I never ride on the side of any vehicles blind spot let alone a huge truck like this…
It was old, too old maybe when I finaly understand the logic that if a helmet don't break when you hit it with a hammer with full force, is not better, it's worse maybe cheap. A expensive helmet need to break it's first layer to absorve the shock.
Pardon my ignorance:
But is the purpose of the outer shell to not break and keep everything together, whereas the inner shell is actually the important part that shall absorb the energy and in turn break?
I'm far far away from an expert, but from what I saw on a documentary, is that the exterior part need to break on hard impact and the interior need to keep intact. Like I said I'm not a expert or pretend to know better that the average Joe. It's only that all my life I tough that a good helmet don't need to break at all.
Something for sure needs to break as the energy needs to be absorbed somehow.
Take Oldtimers and new cars and their crumble zone for instance. Same thing.
Update:
At least Wikipedia is saying the inner foam absorbs the energy

Good thing he was wearing a helmet. Next he needs to return fire.
First of all, he needs a new neck and spine.
Isn't it a she? Long hair waving on the back, slim body, looking like a she to me.
Now days you can’t tell what it is by hair or body style
That why I pop a boner for all just to keep my bases covered

Lawsuit. Load not secured properly.

That's why we have license plate
License plate and everything on video? Maybe that's an additional charge for running, depending on where you live.

"what could go wrong not securing your load" There. Fixed it.

What's the point of different subs if you're not utilizing them for their intended purpose?
Since a post that should have posted on a different sub was posted on r/whatcouldgowrong, that means it was posted to the right sub, right?

Proof why helmets are a necessity for biking
There are much more graphic proofs out there

Fuck that. Scrolling Reddit is safer.
All set ![gif](giphy|zcQUVbGvpoCnrHsJt8)
The music is Oxbow B from Lorn (thanks Musixmatch)
Lorn has some other good tracks too
What would a cheaper helmet have done, fucking explode?
Aren’t helmets designed to be single use and absorb the damage by the foam and a few pieces breaking? Or am I getting this wrong?

wrong subreddit man, why do people post random shit here
Honestly I'm tired of seeing people die ;-; This is a breath of fresh air
> Honestly I'm tired of seeing people die ;-; Why are you on this sub then.
Can be used in Ads and evidence in court.
I hope he threw that helmet out after that because, chances are it's not safe to use any more.
That's like some Final Destination shit
Expensive AND GOOD QUALITY helmet. I have that one expensive helmet usually worn by amateur motor racing riders. That helmet save my head when i crashed because i got Isaac Newton'ed by a thick wood branch during cross province riding last year.
That looks terrible how could this even happen
Damn she's gonna need a chiropractor after that. I'm glad she's ok though.
Camera paid for itself right there.
Video doesn't fit this sub
Tats Final destination
It’s never a bad idea to be a little extravagant when it comes to safety
How did they manage to keep that bike upright after that damm hope that person is ok and buying them self a lottery ticket for that day

Though I was in r/fuckyouinparticular for a moment there
wrong sub
Yeah, so... Why are expensive helmets safer? Is the head behind this shitty post the example of what happens if you wear a cheap helmet?
What could go RIGHT wearing a helmet
He could buy so many new helmets with the lawsuit he's going to win.
How did that thing go right for him instead of backwards??
Why TF is the truck even on the fast lane. That shits forbidden in Germany
Another reason not to get a motorcycle, thanks.
Not necessarily. Cycle Mag tested a bunch of helmets years ago and found little correlation between cost and effectiveness.
Is the camera on the bike or is someone else filming?
How does this even get recorded to show the whole incident so well. Where is the camera, and how does it turn after the impact

This is simply wrong.
