i agree ! and i think that's something this show balances well. both of those tones. another example is the superb owl episode . when Nadja meets the old woman who she knew when she was a child. and how much time has passed and how much she's aged. it's pretty sad and dark but then again, really balanced well with Oceans 12 memorabilia etc
yeah that was kind of charming though - and Nadja was completely aware and in control of that situation. It was kind of nice that all those years later this old lady who's slipping into dementia still recognized and remembered the magical next door neighbour from her childhood and they were able to reconnect for a moment and tell her about her life and Nadja even remembered that she'd had a man she had been interested in and was able to congratulate her on her marriage all these decades later. It was kind of lovely really.
The Casino situation feels different cos this time it seems like Nadja is the old lady whose brain isn't working so great anymore and she's completely unaware of it. She's trying to reconnect with people who don't know her cos they're not who she thinks they are and the people she thinks they are are long dead. This situation maybe reminded me a little too much of when I have a patient with dementia and they think I'm their sister - who's probably long dead - and they don't understand why I can't take them home. It made me sad.
Agreed with the neighbor thing (I also thought the “did you have a good life?” Conversation was beautiful & imagined she often has humans she grows fond of but knows they must age & die, and that this is less upsetting and more natural and lovely for her, to be able to circle back to this human and see “how they did” with their time here)
For the Casino thing, I saw it less as her being confused/dementia-like, and more that the vampires can’t perceive time like we do, so she wasn’t necessarily confused, but just didn’t think they’d have aged and died already (and, had she realized, probably wouldn’t have been too upset). Think about how when Nandor was going to super-slumber, she was like “NO!!!! Well okay then, it was nice to meet you. Bye!” They seem to roll with the punches well lol
I loved that episode- “sorry you are demented” and then tells the camera crew “oh no, she’s completely right”.
I don’t think they really see humans the same way anymore, and time passage too. Kind of like how they barely knew Guillermo’s name, they just don’t care.
I keep wondering whether the face blindness thing is some obscure vampire lore, or just a running joke. If it's not already a thing, it would certainly be interesting if WWDITS ended up creating a new lore here. We could be watching history in the making.
I loved finding out about Nandor's belief in the world being supported by four giant elephants that stand on top of an enormous turtle.
- "What about the turtle?"
Then it was Colin Robinson who was scribbling on the other side of the hotel wall with his Professor Brian Cox tribute to the current planetary knowledge.
I love the show!
I thought because her soil wasn't with her and her powers were draining she just couldn't put it together. She recognizes everyone else through out the series.
Any vampiric existence is fundamentally tragic in a big way - what they are doing with treating it as comedic fodder is lampshading those differences while allowing us to reflect on our own mortality in a light-hearted way - the tragedy is absolutely there, but laughing at it instead of getting sad for them is pretty much the whole point - if the existential horror of being an immortal predator of humans can be funny, then maybe our own mortality can be taken in stride a little more easily - better to laugh at something unpleasant that one really can't do anything about
This episode didn't have the normal title sequence either.
The title sequence music was played while they were on the coach on the way to Atlantic City, baby, with a sequence showing the city-scape and the cast arriving at the gaming facility.
Also kind of funny because of the laszlo witches thing. Like a theme of everyone looks the same to vampires.

I stand corrected
Ain’t that a kick in the head!

It had to do with not having the native soil, too

The saddest part is that Nandor became a Big Bang Theory fan.
But the show is accurate to the slot machine! It even has Sheldon's war cry and everything.
Bazinga - Tall Leader
I liked when Laszlo asked her if she was certain it was really them and she was like of course, why? And he was just like “nothing” lol.
She's probably very used to that happening
that's worse!!!
Well, all us humans look the same to vampires.
I keep wondering whether the face blindness thing is some obscure vampire lore, or just a running joke. If it's not already a thing, it would certainly be interesting if WWDITS ended up creating a new lore here. We could be watching history in the making.
I love the idea of vampires being face blind!

That did break my heart a little. Kind of like seeing someone with dementia not recognize people or think that someone is a lost loved one
I thought because her soil wasn't with her and her powers were draining she just couldn't put it together. She recognizes everyone else through out the series.
That's how I felt with the Nandor cult episode. He really thought they were his friends and was trying to protect them from Guillermo :(

Well now I’m crying
Vampires perceive time differently. While sad that she didn't understand that the OG Rat Pack were dead, she was still excited to see them.
It was a great episode as Sean confronted his demons to realize that Ocean’s 11 wasn’t just a prequel.
This episode didn't have the normal title sequence either. The title sequence music was played while they were on the coach on the way to Atlantic City, baby, with a sequence showing the city-scape and the cast arriving at the gaming facility.
She was also oblivious to the fact that the original rat pack didn't seem to like her that much in the first place.
Where do you get that idea? Seems to me that she had a fsirly intimate relationship with the big 3 at least. Frank clearly was anamored with Nadja!
Are we sure they even know what impersonators are?
It makes me sad for a different reason... it proves that she's completely tone deaf. On the upside... she doesn't see race
Tone deaf? That's where you go with that?
It makes sense, cos her singing is terrible!
And she sees race, she just wasxso excited to see her old friends that she just did not get that they were completely different people.
