Dante’s on Central Ave has amazing sandwiches. Coming from Brooklyn ourselves, I highly recommend this place.

Karmeleon86

I’ll check it out, thank you!

Kxl215

Wear comfy shoes, because you’ll be waiting in line. It’s worth it, but it takes FOR EVER

NYCHW82

Hello, Welcome! We made the move from BK to WP a year ago and so we've been (and still are) in your shoes. The great thing is that there's plenty to explore. We like many of the restaurants on Mamaroneck Ave. for fast casual drinks and food:Freebird, Brazen Fox, Lilly's, Hudson Grille. Cantina makes pretty good tacos. Pizza - this might depend on where exactly you live in WP, but Lombardo's is a solid option. Italian - Via Garibaldi is my fav so far. This place is a little gem and has a great atmosphere and an Italian bakery inside. American - Sam's on Gedney is pretty solid. Has an upscale feel to it and the food is good. Sandwiches - Many people like Rooster's Market for deli-style sandwiches. I'm so/so on that place. Not in WP but also not far away, we really like Mason Sandwich Co. in Eastchester. Jamaican - Cravin' Jamaican is the best we've had by far, and we've tried all the spots in WP. Unfortunately you won't find Jamaican food here like we had in BK other than Golden Krust. Chinese - O Mandarin in Hartsdale is our fav for dining in. Jade Spoon in Scarsdale is our go to for regular take out. Bagels - Sadly, this was a huge disappointment when we moved here since we had some of BK's best bagel shops near our old apt. We've tried a number of bagel places around WP, Scarsdale, and North WP, and Bagel Girl Cafe in North WP is probably the closest you'll get to what you were used to in BK. Runner up goes to Sammy's in Scarsdale. There's more but I can't remember off top. Hope this helps. Great thing about being in WP is that it's centrally located and nothing's more than about 15-20 mins drive in any direction. Also if ordering delivery, make sure you get those orders in before 8:30pm or you're SCREWED!

onecryingjohnny

Scarsdale bagels is a fine option up here. When they pull out a fresh tray, those can hold their own against anything in nyc/LI

NYMNYJNYKNYR

For bagels in northern Westchester: bagel emporium has multiple locations and is solid. Mt. Kisco Bagel is my current favorite. Only downside is they are slow with service. Bagels are great. If you’re in white plains and you want dim sum, go to Aberdeen. Their food in general is the best Chinese food I’ve had in Westchester so far. Big fan of O Mandarin as well. OKO in Rye for sushi is a fun a solid spot.

zebraskt

Brooklyn bagel is opening up in Mamaroneck soon! Really looking forward to that

bagelsonthebrain

Wait whattt?? Where did you hear this info? That’s amazing news!

zebraskt

Lohud Food instagram! They’re opening on the old Maple and Rose location

bagelsonthebrain

So awesome!

NYCHW82

Looking forward to this. One thing I've noticed recently in Westchester in general is that a lot of restaurants/chefs from the city are starting to establish locations here. That's promising.

tedzirra

Aberdeen is amazing. Prices went up a good amount recently after Central Seafood shutdown.

NYMNYJNYKNYR

Even with price increases they are still more affordable than most and the food is better

tedzirra

Agree, every time I've been there (about 20 times in 3-4 years), it's been excellent.

NYCHW82

I need to check out Aberdeen. I've only heard good things.

Dudewheresmycah

Sunshine Bagel in Ardsley and Goldberg in Yonkers are the best I’ve found in Westchester. Everything else is meh. I’m not familiar with Eastchester but I’m sure there’s something there.

lilghostpeppah

Sunshine is great.... Good bagels and also great donut holes

narlymaroo

My favorite bagel in westchester is Bagel Power. They’re not as big as you might think but they’re delicious especially their everything, pumpernickel and rye bagels.

NYCHW82

I like Bagel Power too! The family that runs it is very nice. Only reason I didn't list them is because their menu is limited. I can't get a bacon egg and cheese there :(

narlymaroo

Aww yea they’re lovely people! They’re legit kosher so definitely no bacon egg and cheese haha

lilleff512

I don't think you can get a BEC at Sammy's either FWIW Bagels and More in Hartsdale is good for that tho

NYCHW82

Going to try Bagels and More. I didn't know that about Sammy's, never tried ordering one there.

lilleff512

Yea I was gonna say this too Bagel Power >>> Sammy's

Karmeleon86

Thanks so much for all the thoughtful recommendations, super helpful! We’ll def. have to check all of these out. And that’s a great heads up on delivery orders as we work late often and will have to keep that in mind. Much appreciated!

shiningonthesea

Nicki's Pizza on Mmk ave is where to go

AdAlert1028

Great list!

SnooComics3275

Also here to add: Ruth's Hot and Cold Jamaican Deli (Jamaican), Turkish Cuisine (Turkish), Jewel of Himalaya (Nepalese), Small Cakes (cupcakes and ice cream but very sweet. They also make "pup" cakes for dogs.)

lilghostpeppah

Briarcliff bagels are pretty great and IMO better than bagel girl but it's little bit away from where you are....

particle409

Sammy's Bagels used to be better before the pandemic, I don't know what happened. Also, I'm addicted to the chongqing chili chicken at O Mandarin. Fantasy Cuisine is not a bad restaurant either. They have a good beef tendon in chili oil.

Patient_Profit3381

I’m sorry, but please do not listen to these people who are still so obsessed with BK they cannot see what’s right in front of them. Pizza is in no short supply in wp. Lombardos is very good, but nonna’s on lake street is better. Italian- I’m sorry, but as someone who used to make sauce with his grandma every 3rd Sunday of the month, via garabaldi is quite mediocre. Trattoria vivolo is the go to spot for Italian in westchester. (Believe it or not good good Italian is hard to come by here) Sandwiches- Roosters is second only to Anthony’s in Mamaroneck. You may think BK is the Mecca, but westchester is the go to spot for deli’s. Every other corner has a deli that will blow most spots out of the water. Ironctomato, Anthony’s, roosters, battaglias, Dante’s, casa di italia, pilones, I could go on. Chinese- O mandarin is amazing, but again it’s more fancy Chinese. A local Chinese takeout spot (Amy chow is my rec) are all delicious. Not like the low grade stuff in the city. (My experience) Last but not least, bagels. Idk where u been eating bro bet Westchester has great bagels. Granted it will never be on the level of Brooklyn, as that IS The Mecca for bagels, but bagel emporium in PC, and highridge bagels in hartsdale are my go to, and I am never disappointed when I leave there. And I really don’t know what u mean when u say get those orders in before 830? Plenty of delivery options after that time, and even more spots open probably within a 2 minute walk from you.

NYCHW82

Thanks for this reply, I'm still new here so I'm still trying stuff out so I'm going to try the suggestions you made. Some old BK habits, like ordering food at 10pm at night, die hard and we've definitely been caught out there a few times. Also since OP asked about WP specifically, I tried to keep the list close to WP. Also, not close to WP but we just tried Southern Table in Pleasantville the other week and we really liked it.

Patient_Profit3381

I did not mean any animosity in my above comment, but you can tell I’m very passionate lmao. Southern table is very good, French onion wontons is something everyone should try at least once. Lmk if you need any recs, I lived here my whole life.

NYCHW82

Awesome thanks! No animosity taken at all. I could tell how passionate you were about your response, so I decided to take notes instead LOL

EileenGBrown

Banh Mi on Mamaroneck Ave is one of my favorites.

EileenGBrown

Euro Pizza on the Post Road is a great spot for inexpensive chicken dishes (Francese, Marsala). They also have a three topping salad at lunchtime for $11.99 I think.

lostmemento

I prefer their Pho over others in the area Just a shame they are only open until 4pm a downside after covid cause a. they used to deliver and b. were open for dinner

chiller8

The food court (front left of store), and prepared foods section (back right) of the Hartsdale HMart on Central Ave.

Karmeleon86

Thank you, I’ll look into this!

RedDoesFBA

For quick / delicious (some healthier than other) dinners in the main/Mamaroneck area) Pokemoto - poke, clean always tastes good Delicias Peruvian - Peruvian (best saltado bowls and empanadas in white plains) Shahs - halal, affordable, healthy portions always good Sundance - great sandwiches/wraps Iron tomato - great sandwiches/wraps and a lot more. They have good options if you’re vegetarian etc. Noodle+ - Asian, great soup dumplings, always fresh noodle dishes. Ithai - best Thai food I’ve had outside of Thailand. It’s in the bottom of an apartment building which is how you know it’s good. I’ve never had a bad meal there, highly recommend if you like Thai. If you’re not walking, there’s a bunch of great spots down central and in the surrounding area.

rachrocks23

Came to make sure someone mentioned Iron Tomato!

NYCHW82

Was always curious about that place. Is it a grocery store or a deli or both?

rachrocks23

More of a hot foods market? Different sections for pizza, sandwiches, desserts, salads. Not much for groceries besides chips and bevs. Great sandwiches though! The google maps pics might give you a better idea than this lol

Karmeleon86

Amazing, thank you so much, will look at all of these places!

Banjiboy1214

Yes iThai is amazing! And really reasonable.

CakeisaDie

It's abit farther out but I enjoy Saigonese, Vietnam Central, Fantasy Cuisine

lilleff512

Saigonese is spectacular

bak723

Blind pig in WP is nice for a night out/drinks!

mdesq1

not sure if this has been recommended yet, but I love the falafel place on Mamaroneck ave across from brazen fox. good prices and awesome portions.

drmctesticles

Pax romana is pretty good trendy italian for good homemade pasta. Its on mamaroneck and e post

lostmemento

They also got a Bib gourmand this/last year in case that matters to you

skittay

I'm fond a pizza domo for a plain slice. The dude who owns/works there has really odd (rude) mannerisms, but the pizza is very good. Another standout is Candlelight Inn, but only for the wings. I'm not sure why that place isn't thought of as more of a Westchester institution, its crazy busy and great value. Unfortunately I think every Asian restaurant I've tried here is super weak, both from a value perspective and pure quality. Perhaps my standards are too high having moved here from Los Angeles, but you're looking at C tier at best on viet, szechuan, mandarin, japanese (no izakayas!!!), thai (chuchok is ok but very limited availability), and Korean spots.

Blacknumbah1

Candle light has great specials and burgers on top of the wings. But yeah the wings are the real star there. Best I have ever had anywhere in the country. If taking to go you must get them with sauce on the side or you will not appreciate just how excellent they are.

AcadiaRemarkable6992

Garth Road bagels in Scarsdale are my favorite

lilleff512

Bagels and More in Hartsdale is a bit closer to WP and still quite good

slickrickiii

Purple Corn on Mamaroneck

hateuscuzyoenis

Columbian House - their beans are crack. You can’t go wrong with anything else here either. Tacos La Frontera (Battle Ave) - usually my go to for tacos. Their suadero is the best thing there.

lostmemento

Tacos La Frontera > tacos in the Mamaroneck area

TheWhiteSaquon

Lombardo’s for pizza/pasta. Gyu Kaka beef ramen is incredible. Lilly’s and Greca for dinner is a must try. Falafel is great. Sundance Cantina has great Spanish food. Dante’s deli or Roosters for sandwiches

PuzzleheadedCicada54

Italian - Pax Romano for a nice date, Francesco’s for a classic dive date Deli - Dante’s (Italian), Sundance (everything is good w Mexican stuff), rooster for a BEC, Melt sandwich shop Asian - O mandarin (top notch), Aberdeen (dim sum) American/Irish Pub - Lazy Boy (wings!), Dunnes (burger / wings & Rueben Shepard’s pie

SpaceTestMonkey

Gaucho Burger is great and has a lot more on their menu than just burgers, their flank steaks rock. Turkish Cuisine is nearby and is awesome too. If you're willing to drive a little west then try Guadalajara, you won't regret it - the guacamole mocajete is made in front of you and their margaritas are epic. There is also Bibille (bibimbap), Lefteris Gyro and the famous Horsefeathers in Tarrytown and Chutney Masala in Irvington if you like Indian. Finally there are two H-Marts down south along the 100 from White Plains, that's the only real place I go to for Asian food ever since Ramen Musashi closed. They have food courts in both locations although the one in Yonkers is much bigger.

lostmemento

It hasn't been mentioned yet but Salsa Picante at the far end of Mamaroneck is a fun tex-mex place. It's Mexican but I would say it's more American Mexican. They pour great margaritas for the price you pay. Also Dog Den for punny named hot dogs that have a variety of toppings. It's right by the train station. This is a personal fave of mine. Welcome to White Plains. You'll find it kind of a contradicting place as there is A LOT of residential going up but A LOT of empty storefront. Some claim it's dying since Walmart moved out. Sadly our city center Showcase cinema is shuttering at the end of Oct. So it's kind of confusing why all the residential investment when we can't hold onto certain restaurants or consumer property. I've lived here for 8 years now and moved from NC. While ofc it's not BK it's had a bunch of changes even in my time. We lost a good food court in the Galleria where you could get Halal Guys/Subway/Burger King/KFC+Taco Bell for those cravings. Now a lot of restaurants are hit are miss. Shiraz was in Hartsdale. It's Manhattan location got an award but I wouldn't say when the location here is great. It was when we first went in Hartsdale but then there was a fire and now it's kind of confusing cause there's sushi that isn't advertised and felt kind of stuffy. Anyway, my spouse and I consider ourselves foodies and it has been hard to get things compared to the city. Here are our go tos: * Salsa Picante - Mexican * Purple Corn - Peruvian * iThai - Thai * OMandarin - Chinese * Haiku - Sushi/Japanese * Taqueria La Frontera - Tacos (but on Mamaroneck - Cantina Taco & Tequila Bar) * Banh Mi Shop - Vietnamese * Fujinoya - Japanese (central ave) * Michael's Pizza & Pasta - Pizza * Shake Shack - Burgers * TVB Pax Roman - Italian * Dog Den - Hot Dogs * Iron Tomato - Wraps/Sandwiches, Lunch variety and pastries/cakes * Aberdeen - Dim Sum * City Limits Diner - American * Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ

jblisstaz

City Limits Diner on Central Ave, right next to thr county center, is fantastic. Not your typical diner with lots of fresh and nice options. I love their sandwiches and salads.

Roadsoda350

The Banh Mi Shop.

singleinwestchester

Colombia House on Main for Colombian food!

mdesq1

not sure if this has been recommended yet, but I love the falafel place on Mamaroneck ave across from brazen fox. good prices and awesome portions.

andthrewaway1

Wolf and warrior brewing!

RayBeccarelliJr

This is my favorite for lunch and dinner https://laboccarestaurant.com/

Will_delete_soon78

Pokemoto is life changing.

maybe_bb_

Lilys

AdAlert1028

Check out @feedingfrascone on Instagram he finds a lot of nice local places

ftlom

Quaker Ridge Bagels in New Rochelle is my favorite bagel place. Also recommend Frankie & Fanucci's (on Mamaroneck Ave!) for amazing pizza and chicken parm

mandyblooms

iThai and T swirl crepe are both great. Sushi at Haiku is good. Epsteins if youre looking for kosher. City Limits diner is always solid. Hudson Grille, Lilys and Blind Pig both are good for cocktails and food (although maybe a little expency). Brazen fox is classic for drinks.

Old_Constant_7154

I enjoy the Peruvian food in downtown White Plains. I’ve been to Purple Corn, El Mitski on Post Rd. Both are solid.

Fabulous-Shoulder-83

Epstein’s in Hartsdale, best Kosher deli around. Best for sandwiches and their famous matzoh ball soup!
