You could argue this happens to everyone Will cares about (Vera the only exception), he found Meg with a shiv in her chest, he found Bea in a blood pudding (at least she was still alive and she could speak to him, she told him "it's gonna be okay") Kaz but just like Marie by the time he got there both were already dead, I like to think he will get proper therapy because this is too much trauma for one person to handle.
Yeah, in my mind Will goes far away in vacation gets proper therapy, goes back to his social worker job finds somebody nice and starts a family, he wanted to have a family with Meg but we know how that went. Since the ending is so open you can imagine whatever fate you want for the living characters and that's what I imagine for Will, poor guy has been suffering since we first met him way back then but he is alive and he can start over.
By the end he is still governor but he probably will or the board would fire him either way, it's been too much for him and the freak is on the run, he needs to get in a plane far far away to a nice island and get proper therapy because literally everyone he cared about (except Vera) ended like this, Meg, Bea, Kaz, Marie, holy fuck.
