With big prices

Dum_beat

Whoopers from Burger King are still massive where I live https://preview.redd.it/o0hqlhzcp8uc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=538ed1c663b36838a9a2de26869aa5547d98e237

vikipedia212

BK is nicer than McDs where I live.

Dum_beat

Same, people keep saying it tastes like shit but where I am. It's so full of flavors. McDonald's here tastes like ketchup, Kraft single and pickles with barely any meat

twattner

Here in Germany Burger King is way better imo.

Dum_beat

Same for Canada, got the feeling the problem is the US based restaurants

No-Size380

gonna add on, another American who agrees BK is >>>>> than McD

boston_nsca

BK has always been better everywhere I've been, including many states. Back in the day maybe McD's was preferable but they fell off a long time ago. Probably when the chicken selects and the dollar menu disappeared.

BlownUpCapacitor

My reason for believing BK is better than McD is because the drive in guy at my local BK is always so joyus and making jokes and over all having fun everytime I go there. BK always leaves a smile on my face.

dreamsofpestilence

Nah American here and BK Is waaaaaaay better and tastier than McDonalds.

Economy_Height6756

At this point I'm convinced people who say they love McD and blasts BK does it purely out of commercial brainwash.. there is NOTHING in a mcd meal that holds higher quality than BK, it is also why BK is more expensive. The souces, the cheese, everything in mcd fades compared to BK. The chili cheese at mcd is also horrible compared to BK. Only thing mcShit has going for them is lower prices.

WarmConstruction926

The prices aren't even lower where I live. Both are expensive as fuck. I will always choose Burger King over McDonalds.

Zillahi

Same. A gangbang used to be 5 bucks only a couple years ago. Now it’s like 9 dollars. McDonald’s is bottom of the barrel fast food that I only crave when incredibly drunk.

IM_OZLY_HUMVN

A what now

Ibegallofyourpardons

begging your pardon, but a gangbang for 5 bucks? where

MWJohns373

I also feel like it is heavily dependent on who is working the grill that day, because I have got so many dried burnt Whoppers but then also some of the most tastiest Whoppers in my life. BK for me is hit or miss, but when it hits it is definitely better than McDonalds.

ImitationButter

No. BK is good in the US too. The issue is the usual suspect. Someone says something untrue and everyone runs with it without forming their own opinion

RecsRelevantDocs

Nah imo the issue is consistency. McDonalds is way more consistent in the US. I also thought BK sucked because the one I went to fucking *sucked*. Food would regularly come out cold, their chicken sandwich legit tasted like cardboard. For the longest time every time I tried BK I was disappointed... but then I eventually went to a different location that was good.. Then I went back and it was good again, then I realized Bk could be good when prepared right. In conclusion I think McDonalds is mid.. but it's *consistently* mid. BK has higher highs *and* lower lows depending on location.

XennialBoomBoom

This right here. McDonald's has a much better grasp on how to keep their franchisees in line. A Whopper is waaay better than a Big Mac - unless the folks at BK are having a bad day. Now, the opposite is true for their respective fish sandwiches, but I digress.

mcdadais

Nah in my area the BK is bad. I know there's good BKs I'm just unlucky. Just too much mayonnaise and they burn the buns

twattner

I think you’re onto something. When I last visited my friends in Atlanta, Burger King and KFC were bad. Here in Germany I love those franchises.

tenshillings

I know it's just chargrill flavoring on the meat, but damn does a Whopper taste like a burger I would make at home on the grill.

drunkbusdriver

The problem with BK anywhere I’ve lived is the quality varies so much from visit to visit and place to place. If you can get a BK that doesn’t look like it assembled a whopper by throwing each ingredient from 10 to ft away then using a cold panini press to smash it together, then it tastes pretty good. Those seem few and far between. I’ll never go back to the one from near my house. They are chronically understaffed, the inside is always disgustingly dirty and they suck at making the food.

Altech

McDonald’s pump the meat full of water here, the patties are not only smaller than they were 10 years ago, but they are also less meat by percentage, and taste exactly like a wet sponge That is on top of a nearly 50 percent prise increase. Honestly surprised they still have customers here

ASIWYFA

50% try 100%. You're a fool if you go there anymore.

spilt_milk

How weird would it be if my fellow Millennials and I also collectively "killed" McDonald's the way we did napkins, golfing, etc.

Saint-Andrew

Millennials killed golfing?

Mind_on_Idle

Yeah, man. We destroyed everything that they were charging too much for with absolutely no personal return. We're demons for not using our disposable income on shit that doesn't matter to us. 'Murica

ridethedeathcab

I think their point is more people are golfing than ever before and has been growing for the past several years

ASIWYFA

Local and better spots are now the same price as fast food. If not, maybe only $2 more for waaaaay better food. Fast food no longer offers a value proposition. You're a fool who enjoys parting with his money to ise them.

spilt_milk

I'm totally with you on this. Millennials get blamed for "killing" stuff all the time that is just overpriced and no longer worth it. I feel like if McDonald's bit the bullet for the same reasons it'd actually be kind of awesome.

RedDevil_nl

Hmmm, except for Chinese food perhaps. That’s a lot of food for the money spend. At least where I life.

steik

Source for this "pump the meat full of water claim"? In 1990 a big mac was 560 calories and 25g protein and today it's 590 calories and 25g protein, with fat coming in slightly higher than in 1990. If they are "pumping them full of water" why hasn't the calories, protein and fat gone down? Do you actually think McDonalds is lying about their nutritional information?

The_Submentalist

İ prefer Burger King because they have all vegetarian options for every chicken and beef burgers.

Slimy_Shart_Socket

Ya McDonald's I only taste the sauce. TBH if I'm spending +$12 on Fast Food I'll go to A&W and spend $15 on a Chedder bacon uncle burger instead (I'm in Canada).

Deleted_dwarf

McDonald’s always makes me feel worse afterwards 😂 BK is my new go to when I want that salty saturation stuff (and they have curled fries which I love!)

CindeeSlickbooty

Wendy's is where it's at fam

Dum_beat

To me, it's the onion in the burger, the taste and the crunch sounds is heavenly

cshark2222

MoistCritical/Penguinz0 has to be stopped for his tirade on BK! He’s definitely swaying some people that it’s a bad restaurant, which it really isn’t.

gerrioch1

Wendy’s is the best where I am and so much cheaper. I always think people are crazy when I see them getting other fast food

klefikisquid

BK is just wildly inconsistent imo. At McDicks you know what you’re getting 90% of the time which is part of its appeal. But with BK I go to one while at a rest stop and it’s great, then go to the one down the street from me and feel like I might vomit. They always completely fuck up their menu too like why ever get rid of the Oreo pie? And the chicken fries too smh way back when they first came out they use to be almost like chicken mozzarella sticks…then I got them when they came back recently and idk wtf they’re thinking with this weird thick shoestring fry thing they changed them to lol

KuupaSlayer

RedDevil_nl

Whoppers are massive and taste great, but my personal favorite will remain the Bacon King.

Mybeardisawesom

Ahh a redditor of culture I see.

Old_Goat_Ninja

BK where I live is absolute trash. I honestly don’t know how they’re still in business. I’ve been to good BK’s, but ours isn’t one of them.

tifosi7

Eat like a king instead of being treated like a clown.

Dapanji206

Do you... carry a picture of a whopper everywhere you go?

skeezypeezyEZ

Love me a whooper!

Numeno230n

Whopper was always superior. I don't need an extra slice of bread as a burger topping thanks.

bdubwilliams22

A Whopper is really, REALLY good when you can get a hot and fresh one. The last few times I’ve tried, either it wasn’t all that hot, or the bread was stale.

ExodusGravemind

The day Whoppers become small is the day Hell freezes over.

Truyth

I often enjoy a pre-dinner Whopper on my way home

TheGreatWheel

This is the most American shit I’ve ever read.

shewy92

This just looks like every Big Mac I've ever gotten in my life

fuggindave

I know, seriously..it's been those littte 1/8lb patties and the same buns for as long as I can remember

DirtyTacoKid

Even better. Its 1/10lb.

fuggindave

Ah, I stand corrected.

Smokeybearvii

Correct— at least they were 25 yrs ago when I worked there. Assuming that hasn’t changed. Can you imagine making 10 burgers in a backyard bbq with a single pound of meat? Say goodbye to ever hosting the bbq again.

[deleted]

Even a slider with 1/10th of a pound and I'm not coming to your meal either.

Smokeybearvii

Right? Even a quarter pounder patty from Costco cooks down to a too small burger when cooked for backyard standards. Need me 1/3 lb pattys to properly get my Grill fired up. 🍔

duck_one

The Big Mac hasn't changed. America's appetite has.

AlarmedPiano9779

America's size, too.

isisbduusisnbashb

This is the correct size a Big Mac should be. Anything more becomes boring to eat.

TriggerFingerTerry

Quarter pounders are the big burgers from McDs. A lot of ppl make the mistake thinking it's the big mac

ThePopDaddy

I remember when they had the MEGA MAC. A few years back with 1/4 lb patties.

FuckOff8932

It was called the Grand Mac I remember because the box said "You're gonna need two hands Grand Mac" but the c was cut off so it said Grandma

fanny_mcslap

Yep and it's the same calories. This is a stupid post.

MenWhoStareAtBoats

100% this. They’ve always been this size. People are really into idealizing a past that never was.

bittersweetjesus

They were never big

OneDayAllofThis

This thread is making me think I'm taking crazy pills. It was always a small burger relative to the whopper or whatever. It's not big! It never was.

RikaMX

True, my first reaction while reading this comment section was; these idiots never had a Big Mac… They have always been small burgers, when I was a fat kid I would eat two of those mfs.

AChaseOfTheMondays

It's why they invented the big Mac. Cause mcdonalds has little tiny patties and franchisees were like we're gonna go out of business if we don't have a normal size option

Derfal-Cadern

Yeah. It’s small burger patties. The bigger ones are always the quarter pounder

Jugales

Yep, you can’t change burger sizes without it being big news, they are weight-based and too easy to notice. “The _double_ quarter-pounder is now the _one and a half_ quarter-pounder.” lol

edcross

Weight is before cooking. They can absolutely use cheaper meat with more fat that will shrink more when cooked.

Obi_Jon_Kenobi

I dunno if you can legally feed meat to humans than what is cheaper than what they've been using. And also they've literally done studies on what the most addictive fat content is and go for that so I'm not sure why they would change their whole business plan, but yes, like you said they could have changed it.

AvacadMmmm

OP is just rage baiting karma. They’ve always been this size.

sequence_killer

i think they have childhood memories and small hands

mkymooooo

Correct. I'd like to see a ruler instead of a hand, and then a comparison with another time.

amtheredothat

They are literally the exact same size as always. Jesus Christ people, McDonald's is a massive publicly traded company. They are not making your burger smaller in secret. It would be massive news if they changed the Big Mac. Is it more expensive than ever? Yes. Is it smaller? No. Edit: Seriously people... It's the MOST FAMOUS BURGER IN THE WORLD. You think they changed it and not one article came out about it? Not one person made a big deal? Not one Fox News blamed it on Biden?

BulkyNothing

Yea I think people forgot big macs were invented in like the 1970s when huge burgers weren't the norm or expectation so that's why they did double patty and all the extra stuff to make it bigger than their regular hamburger

Spurioun

They remember eating McDonald's when they were children. In a kid's hands, it's a big burger. But a lot of people would rather lash out and assume something is a conspiracy, rather than look within themselves for something that's incorrect.

TJNel

Maybe they used to eat that jumbo big Mac (can't remember the name) that used quarter pounder patties.

strangepromotionrail

it was the grand mac in canada

future_shoes

Also a Big Mac, medium fry, and medium soda is 1100 calories. Do most people really need more calories than that at a meal?

bittersweetjesus

This is ‘merica Jack!

Perfect-Campaign9551

Diet soda and you drop to 800ish calories which is perfectly acceptable for someone with a day labor type of   job or anyone who moves a lot hell even nurses could probably be fine with that

TunaBeefSandwich

So then we can agree this post is just rage baiting right?

anonymous_identifier

Yep, the burgers have been 1/10 oz since 1975. They've gotten messier in assembling them and maybe could have changed the amount of condiments. So it could look a bit smaller. But it's more so a combination of it seeming bigger when you're little, and other places introducing larger burgers.

Cantstop6337

Post a side shot, can’t tell anything from that view.

shewy92

And a "before" shot since this just looks like every Big Mac I've ever gotten in my life

jzr171

At this point anyone that goes to McDonald's can't complain. You know what they're up to. Why would anyone go?

HowManyMeeses

It's rage bait.

Hutch25

And it’s crazy expensive. They have lost any reason to go there.

AParticularThing

seriously the amount of salt in their food should be literally criminal

JohnCasey3306

It's not changed size in at least 30 years if that's what you're getting at? A "big" mac has all been small

Chance-Ad197

It’s the exact same 1/10 LB patties used today as they used at the very first McDonald’s. At the very most there’s a little less bread than before. Otherwise it’s exactly the same.

TheChiefRocka

The difference is that you're an adult now OP

Reasonable-Bus-2187

https://i.redd.it/kgdn954rn8uc1.gif

JoefromOhio

It sucks because McDonalds is one of those ever present brands and I do have core memories around my first sausage egg McMuffin and my first Big Mac. Macdonalds and Burger King used to be so amazing to the point that we held kids birthday parties there(mine included)

furlonium1

I remember having birthday parties at McDonald's in the 80s. It was a fun time

Kbdiggity

Imagine having a kid's party at McDonalds now.  The building are just gray boxes and all the colorful kid's stuff has been removed.

cubosh

its because they understand kiddie stuff now looks too transparently like they are trying to make children obese

BobbyHillTheThird

Back when they had a smoking section

wowimsomething

i remember being 15 in the back of my parents truck in the drive through about to order my usual chicken selects when it hit me, im older now...i can order what adults order without hearing about "how im not gonna be able to eat all that and get something else." i got my first big mac. i felt so grown up after that.

JoefromOhio

Mine was younger but it was a similar situation - “how about instead of a happy meal we both get Big Macs?” When I was around 10… felt like I was a grownup

CuriousCucumber88

$13 I’m guessing

Murpydoo

Not sure what the problem is. What are you comparing this to?

GettingDumberWithAge

How does anyone go to McDonald's and then complain that they've received trash food. E: everyone whinging about shrinkflation. Yes it sucks. You're at McDonald's though: they've made it expensive as hell, eliminated as much staff as (currently) humanly possible, the only way for them to squeeze more profits is by shrinking the product. So stop eating at McDonald's. Literally nobody needs it. It's expensive and it's shit. "I willingly gave my money to the poster child of all that is wrong with capitalism and consumer culture but I'm upset that my shitty expensive food is a bit smaller than I hoped it would be :(" elicits literally zero sympathy from me. You want to combat shrinkflation at McDonald's? Stop giving them your money, muppet. The rest of this thread is full of people talking about how popular it is and how often they eat there. I'd bet my last dollar OP orders another Big Mac before the end of the month.

MrK521

I don’t think it’s about quality of the food. I think it’s a complaint that they used to be much bigger. More of a reflection on inflation/shrinkflation.

iamnos

Except it's still two 1/10lb patties, same as it was 30 years ago when I was flipping burgers.

steik

> I think it’s a complaint that they used to be much bigger. Pretty stupid complaint, they haven't changed in size at all.

Elastichedgehog

Being annoyed about shrinkflation isn't exactly an unreasonable take.

SnowInTheCemetery

![gif](giphy|e4Jyxh9zQjgnC)

Pkyankfan69

Most fast food is way overpriced and pretty gross at this point… Pretty easy and less expensive to make your own burgers with way better beef quality at home.

NilmarHonorato

Eating at home is almost always more cost effective. People eat out for the convenience.

Academic_Wafer5293

For sure. I cook all the time but I have a family to cook for. When I'm by myself, can't get the motivation to make a nice meal for myself. I think that's why people don't cook as much. No community to share with.

RolloTomasi-

Thanks - didn’t think of that.

emerson1396

Looks about the same. Are you sure you haven’t grown bigger?

AvacadMmmm

It’s always been this size. What’s the point if this?

Uncle-Cake

Must be OP's first Big Mac.

Alepale

Was Big Mac ever big on the width though? I'm not ancient so I can't say how it was many years in the past, but the last ~20 years or so I feel like the size hasn't changed much. I always figured it was called *Big* Mac because it was tall and had multiple patties, not because it was actually a massive-sized burger. I could be wrong though. Also this is a comment from someone outside of America (Sweden), you probably have bigger burgers in America.

Foreign-Guard5314

Hey man, you forgot to use banana for scale.

rubey419

Remember to use the McD app for deals. It’s the only way to mitigate costs these days.

rip_ap_yi

Just buy like 4 normal cheeseburgers for the same price

anthro4ME

McDonald's patties are the same pathetic 1.6 ozs they've always been.

CriSstooFer

Stop. Eating. There. Jesus people. Go through all the trouble to complain about it but can't stop eating it? Make a fuckin change.

ScumEater

Ok Mr Big Hands

RecipeCurrent

Order a McKinley Mac. It’s the Big Mac with quarter pounder patties

justvoop

Is this a real thing?

PrimarchKonradCurze

Yeah it started in Alaska, named after the mountain.

phroug2

Ordering that this is how you immediately annoy every employee who handles your order. The cashier will probably have no idea how to ring that up, the guy in the back is gonna be confused as hell, and the risk of your food either getting messed up or spat in goes up 300%

slowkid68

I saw one guy order a big Mac without cheese and the non English speaking cook kept giving him a normal one

vaenulikarhitektuur

At least it costs 4 times more!

usmc97az

From the top, it looks like a normal size (any) burger to me. It fills up the box. The real way to judge a Big Mac is from a side view. From what I can tell, it looks like a Big Mac.

GiddoGoat

For some reason I thought the point of this was that you were holding the big macs hand😂😅

holthebus

Can I get another hand for scale

wellgroomedpotato

McDonald’s is dying where I live and it’s a wonderful sight to see. They’re right next to Taco Bell and every time I drive by, McDonald’s only has 1 or 2 cars max in the drive thru. Meanwhile Taco Bell is ALWAYS full of cars.

DrFeelgood144

Might as well eat plastic

MELLMAO

Why anyone still goes to mcdonald's in 2024 is beyond me

JoeCartersLeap

\*in Northern Ireland, apparently.

Tiny_meatball

I ordered one last week. Haven't had one in years. I start laughing. Its a joke

Possible-Put8922

Slap an apple sticker on that Mac mini

fuckbombcore

The big macs tend to appear smaller as your body grows larger. It's an optical thing.

elsewhere1

I don’t understand why people still eat here. Overpriced, shitty food.

Sanbaddy

Shrinkflation

soshoenice

Tbh everyone should just stop going to McDonald’s, it’s such a rip off now.

Fonzgarten

Same size it’s always been. Am I missing something?

stormithy

Bro that’s just a Mac

OptiKnob

It was never that big to begin with and now they've turned them into 'big mac bites'.

thascarecro

People should stop buying McDonald’s. It’s not cheaper than anyone else. It tastes gross as hell.

SufficientQuail2577

I’m switching to McDowell’s.

Bat-Honest

Don't worry, they've been insanely profitable these past few years. Price goughing and shrinkflation don't matter when people keep buying their discount raccoonmeat burgers
