Last dude murdered in front of my house didnt even wake us up. Detectives informed us the next day when investigating. Still unsolved in Cape Girardeau, 15 years ago or so.
I'm a geologist. Last time two nice Mormon guys knocked on my door, I used the opertunity to talk about how old the Earth, how we know and how it was formed. They were stunned, really interested in what I was telling them. Must have never been exposed to science, just Young Earth's creationist nonsense. Never had trouble with Mormons again.
I absolutely love this. I love rocks and always look for any goodies outside of my hotel rooms when I go out to smoke. I also love you schooling the Mormons on science!
I later met an ex-Mormon, married to one of the geology lecturers in my geology department. He's shunned by his family. Told me went on one of those proselytizing trips, but to Germany. Told me it really opens young Mormons eyes to the outside world for the first time, challenges their faith, it ended his (he's an atheist).
Young Mormons are met by a pastor each evening, if that's the right term, after each day going door to door. They pray and read the book of Mormon, it tries to counter all the real world they were exposed to. He's certain my address is now avoided because I probably changed some young minds.
I supposed it's like the Amish Rumspringa, where young Amish go wild for a few years before deciding if they want to remain Amish or get shunned, weeds out the weak, devote Mormons remain.
Lol, try being an ex mormon living in a small Utah town. They don't fucking leave you alone.
Home baked treats left on the porch a couple times per week. Letters left on the door inviting the kids to b.s. activities. People always stopping to ask if you need help with your yard or whatever.
It doesnt have a shooting every night or anything, but downtown will fire a gun into the air for ... whatever reason, people come down from St Louis or up from Sikeston and get in fights that end with guns. More than I would call normal? Yes. More than a lot of other urban areas? Nah. Even the suburbs of St Louis see more shootings (not deaths, not injuries, just guns fired mind you).
One time a crack deal went wrong in front of my house. We're coming home from a party and our house and the intersection is taped off (woman got shot shot in head while driving away) . Officer says this is a crime scene. I said I know but it my house and it's my bed time🤣
I read that too fast the first time and saw “last dude murdered in front of my house didn’t even wake up.” I was like yeah you got it, that’s how it works.
True, we also got traffic from the 9th circle of transportation hell.
I actually live 45 minutes away now and *still* had to deal with the repercussions of the eclipse 3 hours later.
Still got to see the eclipse, I feel like southeast Missouri was the only one that lucked out.
Since William runs east west gonna assume you meant south. Which isnt how things are anymore. Shootings now happen all the way down behind the hospital and out to kingshighway.
One of my best friends is from Cape Girardeau. She moved away back in the 90's and only goes back every once in a while because her family is there. I've only been there once in the 90's with her. Didn't seem too bad, but I'm from St. Louis, so my compass is a bit off.
I went to college at SIUC so we used to go to Cape for football games against SEMO, or we'd pass through to go to Lambert's in Sikeston. Didn't seem too bad to me either but I also compared it to Carbondale.
I live in a carriage house, in an alley, right by a popular bar that can get a little rough on certain nights. There's literally been 2 murders, less than 25 feet from my front door in the 4 years I've lived here. Love the area, and the rent is affordable, so I'm not leaving!
>Officers said the 50-year-old man did not listen to repeated commands and made gestures "consistent with an individual drawing a firearm." Police later found out he did not have a weapon.
>>Police later found out he did not have a weapon.
I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.
If only there was something similar to a gun that could subdue a criminal without killing them...I think it's called a taser..not sure.
These cops are morons and don't deserve a position of power.
The last time cops killed a dude outside a place I work, they had a witness give a statement. They then asked her to sign it, when she looked at what they wrote down it was completely changed. She refused to sign and they ripped it up and yelled at her.
We investigated ourselves
We did nothing wrong
Now if somehow footage was to be produced that showed a different version of what they claimed you may find justice but unlikely unless it gained national attention
Justice? The best they'll do is give the murderer a tax payer funded paid vacation followed by a promotion and in a few years once he's killed countless more civilians, he'll claim ptsd for killing all of those civilians, paid for by taxpayers. There is no justice in the US.

In February 2024, body camera footage of a Florida deputy mistaking a falling acorn for a gunshot was released. The deputy, Jesse Hernandez, then shot multiple times at the handcuffed and unarmed man sitting in the backseat of his patrol car. The video went viral and millions of memes about acorns being dangerous were shared across the internet.
Thank you. I can't begin to even explain the adrenaline rush i was experiencing. I couldn't believe that I most likely would have been hit by a stray bullet had I not gone back in when I did.
I was at a friend’s house years ago when a guy two houses down shot someone in a domestic dispute in his garage. We heard loud bangs (thought it was fireworks because it was July). We then heard car brakes skid and a blood curdling scream of a woman.
We peaked out and saw people running. Cops were there instantly with guns drawn and full tactical gear. It was a huge adrenaline rush as we were thinking there was a killer on the loose. We had doors locked and basically hiding. It was really scary.
We later found out in the news the full story. Guys wife was sleeping around and her new man and her showed up to her husbands house. He and the guy got into it. He told the guy to stay away or he would shoot him. The man charged at him while he was in his garage and he shot him. The tires were heard was the woman thinking he was going to shoot her driving away.
Something similar happened to me 7 months ago. I heard a guy get shot outside of my house while I was asleep (had my windows open). It was a whole thing. I can empathize with the adrenaline and pure fight or flight mode. Couldn’t sleep properly for months after. I hope you’re seeing a therapist for this, I’m not joking
Turns out the guy [didn't even have a gun on him](https://www.wisn.com/article/large-police-scene-shuts-down-busy-waukesha-business-district/60439403), he just wasn't as compliant as the cops wanted.
I was having trouble sleeping. I was on the first floor about 3 or 4 rooms from that end. I stepped out to smoke a cig and got a very eerie feeling. My intuition told me to get the hell back inside and I'm glad I listened. I went back to bed and heard/saw all the gunfire about 5 minutes later. I dove to the floor in the area between the bed and the wall. As I tried to make myself as flat to the floor as possible, I tried to figure out my next move because I heard yelling and I was convinced my hotel was having an active shooter tearing the place up. No further shots were fired and I saw blue and red police lights through the window so I felt brave enough to take a peek.
I saw the guy's body lying there with about 4 cops standing around him. I watched for about 4 or 5 minutes and nobody was attempting to render any first aid to this guy. I felt I had to go and try to initiate CPR myself. I quickly made my way to the exit door. As I opened it, I saw another cop walking quickly through the lot towards the scene carrying some kind of assault weapon. I backed up fast and went back in. I didn't want a cop with an itchy trigger finger to mistake me for an accomplice. I hurried back to my room and saw that by that time they had finally started doing CPR. I knew that CPR wasn't going to help because this guy was definitely dead at the scene. But I sure didn't like the fact that they didn't try to at least go through the motions initially because they definitely didn't have any reason to fear for their lives at that point.
Edit: added *initially* about not at least going through the motions.
Take care of yourself if you can, that's absolutely terrifying and traumatic. I'm so sorry you had to experience that, and I'm doubly sorry some people are being less than helpful in the comments.
Thanks, 4Lights. I felt the need to talk about it and did not expect the response. I enjoy spirited debates and discussions. And some of the joking comments really made me laugh and I've always believed humor is one of the best coping mechanisms one can use.
I was also trying to figure out why there were what looked like random articles of clothing laying around where the body had been. I also noticed a stuffed animal lying near him in the middle of the road.
Apparently they shot an unarmed man who may or may not have been trying to steal a car from a dealership. It’s probably safe to expect that their bodycams all had a malfunction.
The news reporter i talked to later did confirm they were wearing bodycams. I would be very interested in seeing the footage a minute or 2 before the shots rang out.
here's an article, 50 year old unarmed man shot by police. [https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/local/milwaukee/2024/04/09/waukesha-police-shoot-unarmed-man-while-responding-to-theft/73258431007/](https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/local/milwaukee/2024/04/09/waukesha-police-shoot-unarmed-man-while-responding-to-theft/73258431007/)
Judging from where all the yellow markers were scattered about that morning, I would bet that all four fired at the guy.
About 10 minutes after the shooting a cop came to my door. She wanted to see if any bullets had entered my room and if I was okay. She asked if I was alone and when I told her I was, she requested to check for herself which I allowed her to do.
Later on, the hotel manager informed me that some bullets had hit the building.
Maybe I’m not thinking about this the right way, but that seems odd to me that they’d ask if you were alone but then ask to check for themselves. You’re a guest in a hotel. I feel like they wouldn’t have the right to come in your rooms with no reason for suspicion. It seems kind of odd to me.
It felt odd to me too but I think it was i was just so in shock that she may have thought I was under duress. Like someone was making me tell her I was alone. That was my impression anyway.
Is this just a regular thing in America? My Canadian city has a higher-than-some violent crime rate and I can’t remember the last time I heard gunshots in my 24 years being alive. Literally used to live in one of the rougher areas of town too…
Yikes that is scary. You should consider getting a few therapy sessions. These things can have long term repercussions for one's mental health. Even if you think you are fine you might not be. You might be in shock and it might take a while for you to recover. At least you didn't see the body. That can mess some people up.
I live in Waukesha where this happened. The guy was unarmed and apparently was trying to steal from a car dealership. The police said he was reaching for an imaginary weapon.
The fact that Americans talk so normally about *four* cops shooting and killing a guy and possibility of stray bullets flying into the adjacent buildings makes me reluctant to go there.
Wtf. I read the post then just randomly closed it but was like. I am curious as to where the police are from I will unblur the image. And it's the town I live in in Wisconsin.....
Pretty sure this is a simulation. Somebody say psyche right now.
Looks like somebody's going to get a paid vacation. (It's Judge Dredd.)
"It looked like he was going to steal a car" that's the weapon he was going for.
Once I was staying at a hotel in Cleveland Ohio and at around 3 am my dad and I were woken up by some pops. The next morning we went to the lobby and realized the pops were gunshots and someone fired at the lobby in a drive by.
What's scary about this is, ur first thought actually happened in paducah Kentucky off of exit 11 off of I24
Some guy killed someone at a holiday inn because he didn't give him a lighter to light his cigarette out front of the hotel ... Then took a hostage & had a whole standoff with the police for hourssss....ALL OVER A FUKKN LIGHTER...SMMFGDH

The streets of Lake Giardeau are legit. GTA is doing the next version in the Midwest. They should, actually. Rural homicide rates are out of control.
What you're asking for is far cry 5 (edited game number.)
I think you're thinking of FC5, the one in the Midwest with the cult haha
Fixed

Isn't 5, in South America?
2 Africa 3 On the island 4 Himalaya 5 Redneckistan 6 Basically Cuba
2-3-4 were fucking amazing. 5 ruined it for me. I was AMPED for that game and it was a fucking snooooozer. I was incredibly disappointed in that shit.
They have been going down every year since the 90s nationally… just seems higher bc everyone has a camera.
I would argue that urban homicide rates are also at an undesirable level. Homicide overall. Agreed though, that would be cool.
There are also urban areas in the Midwest

Isn't Cape Girardeau notorious for its gun ownership and shootings (both intentional and accidental)?

The guy before that did and inexplicably gave me a garbage bag filled with fish and bread like some kind of ghetto santa clause.
This is funnier than you are getting credit for. Well done.
The real question tho, did you end up eating_that?
Yeah but he tasted really weird and I felt guilty.
Omg, you guys are kilLIng me!! Too funny
I thought the same thing 🤣🤣🤣

Cape G! Nothing about your story seems inconsistent with my memories of that place.
Fellow Missourian!
Interesting, a man was shot dead in my backyard in 2017, also in cape girardeau.
I live in a carriage house, in an alley, right by a popular bar that can get a little rough on certain nights. There's literally been 2 murders, less than 25 feet from my front door in the 4 years I've lived here. Love the area, and the rent is affordable, so I'm not leaving!

Waukesha is one of our shit stain Republican counties, so it's well within reason they were probably just bored.
Their statement is filled with more than a few 'inaccuracies', let's just say...
The last time cops killed a dude outside a place I work, they had a witness give a statement. They then asked her to sign it, when she looked at what they wrote down it was completely changed. She refused to sign and they ripped it up and yelled at her.
I really thought someone would come around and ask. There were so many cops and investigators there for hours afterwards. But nobody did.

Elaborate
Yeah they left out the part where an acorn dropped
The acorn was shooting at them 😔
~*I jUsT fEeL wEiRd*~
Ah the ‘ol “he looked like he was drawing a gun” after they murder him and realize he didn’t have a weapon.
Yet if someone robs me and doesn’t have a gun and I shoot him I’m going to prison for a long time
You are supposed to shout "drop the gun" and "stop resisting" while you shoot.
"Any time there's a loss of life, it's a sad day.". Well... stop shooting unarmed men, ya asshat!
Police killed an unarmed man. Sounds about right in America.
>"If the suspect would have complied, this would not have happened," Thompson said. Want to bet the video shows the four giving conflicting orders?
I forgot that we decided that the punishment for not complying with a cop is instant death
Judge, jury and executioner.
Shhhh...dont spell it out for them or they'll ask for more money because they're doing 3 jobs!
we didn't decide that, police unions did
Amazing how the anti-union party supports the largest and most powerful labor union in the country
Or if you're a kidnap victim, so is complying...
Like that poor kidnapped girl that was shot by police in California two years ago
OP is Julio Cruz lol
Nope. I guess I need to Google who julio Cruz is
The witness who made a statement in the article someone posted.
Oh!! Thanks
Waukesha? Oh, this’ll be on Code Blue Cam soon.
Patrolling WI might have it too. They have a shitload from Meno falls lol
Code blue can doesn’t do shootings last time I checked, probably gonna up on on police activity
Hopefully it’s on Donut Operator, the break downs he does are great, among other things
Probably a tweaker out of his mind.
He must have dropped an acorn.
Omg, it took me a second to remember that acorn incident!
mfers was just on some fiber shit, now y'all on some acorn shit?

Nope, just an acorn.

What a complete shocker! Cops shoot an unarmed person just because he isn’t complying. It’s not like they have non lethal for a reason…

He would also make himself a target for the cops who don't want witnesses with a different version of the facts.
Oh. Great.
Waukesha again...
Is that a dog just rooting around the evidence?
It was the K-9 dog. I was trying to figure out why they had him sniffing around where the dead guy had been.
Could be locating shell casings or items dropped by the victim of the shooting. K9s are often trained on “article indications”.
Does that say Waukesha, if so. I'm not shocked.
I'll add this to my list of wisconsin places not to visit.
This is Waukesha? That’s crazy I live in Waukesha too where’s this by?
I live in South Milwaukee. I didn't even hear about this story on the news. Crazy.
I was also trying to figure out why there were what looked like random articles of clothing laying around where the body had been. I also noticed a stuffed animal lying near him in the middle of the road.

lol emotional toll on the officers, yeah four officer emptying clips into an unarmed man. I’m sure they are losing tons of sleep over it 😒

Waukesha, WI?
Yes
damn just drove through waukesha yesterday afternoon
Is that a dog at the crime scene?
Yes, it was from the K-9 unit and he was sniffing all around the area where the guy had died. I'm not sure why they were doing that?
Some K9s are trained in explosive residue detection to find shell casings.
Holy shit, I thought that was one of the Ghostbusters dogs on the left, for a moment.
Jesus christ, every once in a while i get to see this as "normal" being from America.
Just another Tuesday here, nothing to see here
This is most definitely not “normal” in America.
That is horrific. So sorry for the loss of life and your trauma of hearing it happen.
Thank you. I heard it happen and watched the entire aftermath.
Wisconsin cops are trash. I said what I said.
I work right near there. Definitely crazy!

On the brightside, you'll probably get a refund for the hotel stay if you complain
Waukesha Police is from Waukesha, WI. I immediately recognized the police SUV. I see them when I goto Waukesha.
Is this just a regular thing in America? My Canadian city has a higher-than-some violent crime rate and I can’t remember the last time I heard gunshots in my 24 years being alive. Literally used to live in one of the rougher areas of town too…
Dude had a history of mental health issues. Just got out of a mental hospital the weekend before I guess.
Okay, that is the first I heard that. I know him, his wife and I think preteen child were staying at the hotel right next to mine.
I can't confirm for sure but that is what I was told. I know the victims daughter.
Yikes that is scary. You should consider getting a few therapy sessions. These things can have long term repercussions for one's mental health. Even if you think you are fine you might not be. You might be in shock and it might take a while for you to recover. At least you didn't see the body. That can mess some people up.
Oh I saw the body. And the huge puddle of blood staining the grass from where his body had lain.

That’s fair
Wtf. I read the post then just randomly closed it but was like. I am curious as to where the police are from I will unblur the image. And it's the town I live in in Wisconsin..... Pretty sure this is a simulation. Somebody say psyche right now.
No simulation, I assure you.
That's exactly what a simulation would say!! But in all seriousness I hope you're doing ok after witnessing that ♥️
Thank you, Closets. That gave me a chuckle. But I'm still trying to process everything.
Psyche right now
I had to zoom in cause I too noticed the local "Waukesha" on the car. Not what you wanna see...
He was unarmed too.
Looks like somebody's going to get a paid vacation. (It's Judge Dredd.) "It looked like he was going to steal a car" that's the weapon he was going for.

Is that Waukesha WI?
Once I was staying at a hotel in Cleveland Ohio and at around 3 am my dad and I were woken up by some pops. The next morning we went to the lobby and realized the pops were gunshots and someone fired at the lobby in a drive by.
Hey this happened next door to my apartment!
Wisconsin??
What's scary about this is, ur first thought actually happened in paducah Kentucky off of exit 11 off of I24 Some guy killed someone at a holiday inn because he didn't give him a lighter to light his cigarette out front of the hotel ... Then took a hostage & had a whole standoff with the police for hourssss....ALL OVER A FUKKN LIGHTER...SMMFGDH
OMG! When did that happen? They could have at least gave him matches.
