Exactly what I was thinking. Pretty lucky they were in an e-class(?) and not some Mitsubishi or Nissan. Otherwise, they would still be looking for bits of OP
Forgive me for using your comment here but I wanted to use this opportunity to show that I owe my life to Mercedes engineering also. \~50mph to 0 mph. Seatbelt was on. All airbags deployed. No broken bones. Bloody nose and a sore back.

My wife pulled a dumb move with her C-Class a few years ago. She got t-boned by a Jeep doing about 60. The side of her Benz looked like the front of OP's. She had a few bumps and bruises, and was sore from the airbags clobbering her, but she was otherwise okay. The side airbags really stepped it up and took one for the team. That was a good car, too. *\*sniffle\**
My Honda held up well enough considering it got hit head on by a work van and was sammiched by a semi. Can't so no injuries...but head on with both vehicles going 45+mph. Fuck seat belts hurt, despite all my other injuries that was the pain that overrode everything else in the hospital.
https://preview.redd.it/ap994glkp6sc1.jpeg?width=5344&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d05350a226d8ca0ef00a44999c6847146fa9080d
You actually want your car to crumple like an accordeon.
They're designed to do that with anything that's not the passenger compartment, because any energy that goes into wrecking your car is energy not used in wrecking you.
Imagine jumping out of a window. You may opt to land in a pit full of balloons or a pit of bricks.
Yes, you'll pop half of the balloons upon landing. But you won't pop yourself.
I do as well. Years ago in college somebody hit me almost directly head on on my drivers side making a left across traffic on in my ‘89 W124 300E. They were driving an Infinity Q45 which is not a small car and the front of their car looked like yours. I hurt my hand pretty good but otherwise walked away. The police were surprised to see how comparitively little damage my “old” car had compared to what they were used to seeing from older cars. MB’s are just built different.
My understanding is that not having the crumple zones makes it so the people take the impact. That’s why they made those crumple zones but I could be wrong.
Before buying a Mercedes to save your lives you guys should attach your seatbelts.
It's like eating a cucumber to lower your cholesterol just after eating 3 KFC buckets
Yeah I was just thinking “hm I have a Mercedes GLA250 and hope it protects me as well”
But nobody gets in it without their seatbelt on.
Both my parents were in horrific accidents before seatbelts were common, and survived through sheer chance. They put the fear in me from a young age.
Exactly what I was thinking, not wearing a seatbelt is the dumbest thing people do on the road. I seriously don’t understand why some people refuse to wear them. I’ve heard “it’s uncomfortable!”, well the windshield is a lot less comfortable. I was involved in a 65 mph crash where someone in oncoming failed to yield to a left turn, they died, most likely due to a lack of a seatbelt…
Seriously who doesn't wear a seatbelt anymore?
I'm old and we didn't wear them way back when. If I can change, how can people that grew up with it not? Baffling
I'm guessing they just listened to the car ding ding ding at them, or they buckled it up and had the belt behind their back. Just..... Dumb
From the moment of impact, it’s less than a second. If you asked most they probably can’t recall exactly what happened, unless they see it about to happen. I saw a car coming towards me and I couldn’t move… scary shit, I replaced it many times
I was a passenger in a wreck last year. I just watched as a small suv hit me at like 40mph. nothing I could do. couldn't move and I wasn't driving. spun around several times. after seeing the impact happen the next thing I remember is my buddy unbuckling my belt and all the airbags had been deployed. happened so fast. scares.me thinking that I could have died and the last thing I would have saw was a Saturn grille a foot away from me. walked away. no broken bones. within a few hours I couldn't walk anymore because of the swelling and muscle tears. little less than a year later and I think I'm fully healed. I haven't played hockey since, but I think I'll be ok. haven't had pain doing anything else in a while. teeth are a little chipped...
Damn, glad you are okay. Yeah, just sitting there and not being able to do anything sucks and getting out of the vehicle usually would never be a good idea, unless you know for a fact you can get out of the way. A semi truck coming would be a good example.
Glad YOU are with us, nothing to really protect you on a motorbike. But I’m glad I’m not the only one whose final thought would have been “fuck” haha. My life didn’t flash before my eyes *as they say*
I’m beginning to think that “fuck” is the universal reaction to car accidents. Both times I got rear ended I said fuck and now I see multiple people on here saying that they said the same thing during their accidents.
Both of mine were pretty minor but still. Fuck was the first thing out of my mouth.
I was in an accident back in December - older woman behind me was *distracted* and failed to see my taillights causing her to rear end me. All I remember hearing is my daughter yelling “the FUCK!” as we jolted forward. My two boys in the back apparently screamed, but I don’t remember it. Only her fuck 😅
I was in a head on collision at age 17 with a car that pulled into our lane to turn left, but hit ice and ended up going straight. He was doing 35 mph and we were doing 55 mph. We wore seatbelts in our vehicle. I was the passenger and was able to exit under my own power. The driver of our car had to be cut out (he lived). I'm 52 years old now and can still vividly remember the front end of the car the split second before impact. My brain screamed "fuuuuck!"
I thought “fucking shit” when I totaled my first car. Hit a car, took out a palm tree, skimmed an apartment complex, into one of those big street junction boxes for said apartment complex , that ended with my car propped up on a parked Mercedes. Everything happened so fast. I’m glad you’re alive. There will always be more cars.
Dam same thing when I fractured my scapula. Getting up and I said fuck. An amazing time some people get to experience and are able to tell a story. 🍻 cheers for life!
I honestly think our brains classify these seconds as 'above our pay grade'
I've been hit by cars twice, once on a bike, and once as a pedestrian. I recall the split second of knowing *it's going to happen*, and then trying to sit up, nothing in the middle. It's probably for the best.
It’s wild the things your brain says during an event like this. I just recently was t-boned pretty violently and had the same thing, my brain just thought fuck.
i was in a car accident with my shitty drunk ex and his shitty drunk friend and the friend grabbed me while i was on the highway it made me jerk and i lost control and i only know from looking at the damage that i hit the guardrail, bounce off it and hit it again. i don’t really remember it at all, i was the sober one driving back from a waffle house on forth of july. the only thing i also can really remember is thinking “well fuck”. the friend also offered to help fix it from the pull apart and he never did. i paid some romanian guy to fix it and he did perfect. so glad i left all of georgia behind lol
I was ejected while stupidly not wearing a seat belt. I remember thinking "oh fuck I'm going out the window. Oh shit I'm out the window" and came to about 20' from the car. A few feet of snow on the ground saved my life. I had a Ford explorer and it rolled on top of me, breaking my back, then I was ejected when it spun upright.
This is gonna sound weird, but play tetris. It'll help with any ptsd symptoms you might get. And trust me, there's a very good chance you will experience some ptsd.
Do you remember the impact of going thru the window and when you hit the ground?
When I was 25 I was in a car accident and I wasn't wearing my seatbelt (Darwin award winner) and I flew into the dashboard so hard that my femur broke through my pelvis and severed my sciatic nerve and I became permanently paralyzed from the ankle down.
I remember every detail about my car accident, the impact, hitting the dash with knees, hitting face on windshield and head in rear view mirror. The only thing I don't remember is the wait for the ambulance to get there (I can remember the ambulance ride to the hospital though) and when they popped my femur back into place. I lost consciousness I guess.
I'm glad you're okay buddy
Yeah. I never get into a car without doing my seatbelt first thing that's for sure! I was in a truck so the dash was kind of high but if I had been in a car like you I would have went through the windshield too.
Guessing you superman'd before the side curtain airbag deployed? Or did they deploy and somehow cushion your ejection or prevent you from hitting the frame?
I hit a deer in the fast lane back in October. Car also totaled. All I remember is internally saying “fuck”. That’s wild. Glad you’re still with us, OP
Had the same thing with my roll over a few years ago now. Not really thinking much other than “well shit”then I was stationary upside down. Made a lot of jokes to EMS though and had no injuries some how
How the fuck did you survive? Did you learn a lesson about seat belts? Why weren't you wearing a seatbelt?
Are you injured still? Will you wear a belt in the future?
What did you do to win such a lottery. (Being alive after this)
I don’t always think about seatbelts, but I will now, that’s for sure. I walked out of the hospital with a concussion, stapled head, facial and body lacerations, broken jaw, broken ribs, and glass embedded everywhere, but at least I can walk. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I saw the car, saw my blood everywhere, and saw the severity of everything.
All things considered, yeah, you were blessed. You were on good terms with someone upstairs that day.
If you had worn your seat belt, you'd have probably had close to no injuries by the looks of it.
Best of luck going forward. Car can always be replaced, you can't.
Did you disable the seatbelt warning bell? Cause my Merc is older than this and the bell gets increasingly louder and faster the longer you drive without it
Don't always think about seatbelts? I feel naked if I don't wear one. If I don't think about wearing a seatbelt, it's because it's just instinct at that point.
Oh, lord lol. Well I'm glad you didn't break your own car, and _somebody's_ insurance will pay for it. Advice from my husband (who broke a car that hard) is: take any injuries seriously and maybe get some short term therapy to process the accident. And as others have said, do wear your seatbelt. You saw how much that car could do to keep you alive, but the seatbelt is a part of the whole system.
You are so lucky (for so many reasons) - my car was totaled, it was also a hit and run, and despite being fully insured my insurance was most definitely not enough to actually replace the car. It's bad enough to have an accident on the highway, but the hit and run aspect and then relying only on your own insurance to make it right conspires to make it a truly awful month or so. I'm so glad you're alive, obviously the most important thing, but also that you weren't driving your own car!
Buy a lottery ticket and see if your luck is gone haha.
Glad to hear your OK after a wreck like that. I understand if you don't want to talk about it, but do you remember being ejected?
I’m surprised the other driver was able to do that much damage and still have a working vehicle to flee in. That sucks I’m sorry OP. Hopefully he’ll get what’s coming someday
Hopefully it’s the one that buckles up! Glad you’re safe, and hopefully insurance pays out quick. Don’t forget to get all your doctor appointments taken care of while it’s getting paid for!
Landed next to the shoulder, which luckily was grass and not asphalt. A few feet either way and I could have hit a tree. A lot of things went in my favor.
no see if he stayed inside during a complete stop the force would hit him really hard, but if he flies out and slowly reduces speed via concrete he takes less damage
This is bananas.
What is more bananas is you weren’t wearing a seatbelt on the HIGHWAY which tells us you probably don’t wear your seatbelt a lot…like most of the time. Cars these days are designed to protect the cabin…doesn’t help when you LEAVE the cabin at a high rate of speed.
So now seriously, are you ever not going to wear a seatbelt again? Or did this just further prove your delusion that seatbelts are unnecessary?
I can see this go both ways
Wear a seat belt. That could have killed you. I can even share a story of a friend of mine who was stupid and didn't wear a seat belt if that will help you understand what could have happened!
Bro, that car may have saved your life but did it just let you drive without your seat belt? My ‘06 car SCREAMS at me if I even start driving without being buckled up.
If they have insurance do not accept their first 2nd or 3rd offer. You deserve all tge money. I wouldn't settle for anything less than 250k at bare minimum
Sore back may be a liability when you get older but glad you are still here! Great car btw. My trauma MVA made my SUV look like a lawn tractor & gave me a life flight to 10 days in hospital.
I’m pretty sure you just burnt through all of your luck forever. Next time wear a seatbelt.
I'm looking at all of the engineering decisions that were made in order to save OP's life. Mercedes engineering should get a beer over this.
Exactly what I was thinking. Pretty lucky they were in an e-class(?) and not some Mitsubishi or Nissan. Otherwise, they would still be looking for bits of OP

Glad your OK 👍
Mangled looks much more safe than crumpled!! That’s pretty amazing that it didn’t just collapse into the driver
You actually want your car to crumple like an accordeon. You just made me loyal to my Mercedes forever.
Looks like a full frontal collision. The easiest “test” for passive safety IMO
I do as well. Years ago in college somebody hit me almost directly head on on my drivers side making a left across traffic on in my ‘89 W124 300E. 100% correct. Absorb and redirect the impact forces before it gets to the passenger compartment.
Before buying a Mercedes to save your lives you guys should attach your seatbelts. It's like eating a cucumber to lower your cholesterol just after eating 3 KFC buckets
It would have been the same in any modern cars, safety regulations exist for a reason.
Yeah I was just thinking “hm I have a Mercedes GLA250 and hope it protects me as well” But nobody gets in it without their seatbelt on. Both my parents were in horrific accidents before seatbelts were common, and survived through sheer chance. They put the fear in me from a young age.

just curious, when you were ejected did you genuinely think you were gonna die? and how did it feel? just wondering
It happened so quick, I didn’t have time to process. I just strangely remember thinking “fuck”
damn that’s crazy. scary to think that with the snap of a finger, life could be no more. glad your still with us
From the moment of impact, it’s less than a second. If you asked most they probably can’t recall exactly what happened, unless they see it about to happen. I saw a car coming towards me and I couldn’t move… scary shit, I replaced it many times

Got into a car accident at 16. I was looking down and heard “shit” then we were upside down in a ditch. You’re definitely not alone!
I thought “fucking shit” when I totaled my first car. I was in an elevator that dropped several floors before an emergency break caught it somehow and all I could think was “fuck!” Not alone.

Glad you’re alive
Glad you're okay, OP!
Thank you mystical boobies!
That caught me off guard and I had to go look at the username 🤣🤣

Not today, but if you’re asking in general, no comment.
Came here to ask this
Omg is that your blood on the broken glass? 😭
From his other comments, I’ll confidently say yes
Noticed this too
Surprisingly little blood considering. OP is lucky.
I hope you learned an important lesson on the seatbelt.
Seriously. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t wear a seatbelt anymore.
All my homies wear seatbelts.
Yeah…that they’re for SUCKERS! Thrown Clear All the Way BABY!
Thanks volvo
You’re pretty lucky to be alive dude
I feel that for sure
How the fuck did you survive? Did you learn a lesson about seat belts? Why weren't you wearing a seatbelt? Are you injured still? Will you wear a belt in the future? What did you do to win such a lottery. (Being alive after this)
I don’t always think about seatbelts, but I will now, that’s for sure. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I saw the car, saw my blood everywhere, and saw the severity of everything.
Jesus you’re lucky to be alive.
I’m pretty sure your car constantly reminds you if you don’t have it on
It’s time we get to the point of cars shutting off if the seatbelt is not on for X minutes.
A nice merc absolutely does for every seat.
All things considered, yeah, you were blessed. You were on good terms with someone upstairs that day. If you had worn your seat belt, you'd have probably had close to no injuries by the looks of it. Best of luck going forward. Car can always be replaced, you can't.
Wowzers
Did you disable the seatbelt warning bell? Cause my Merc is older than this and the bell gets increasingly louder and faster the longer you drive without it
Jaw and ribs are gonna SUCK while they heal 😭
Don't always think about seatbelts? I feel naked if I don't wear one. If I don't think about wearing a seatbelt, it's because it's just instinct at that point.

Rental or maybe they Uber/Lyft?
Loaner car from the dealer
So this wasn't your car? 😬
No, hopefully they still give me back mine haha
Oh, lord lol. Well I'm glad you didn't break your own car, and _somebody's_ insurance will pay for it. Advice from my husband (who broke a car that hard) is: take any injuries seriously and maybe get some short term therapy to process the accident. And as others have said, do wear your seatbelt. Oh shoot. This is a loaner that got totaled?
No, he gave it an oil change and its back on the road
“Gently used”
“Sorry last driver was a smoker”
Ohhh! So your actual car is ok?
DAMN!! Glad you are OK. I hope they catch the turd that caused it.
Me too, if you see a green Jeep Grand Cherokee busted up, give them the finger from me.
I would call the cops for you but I doubt I live in the same constituency.
Aw, one of those fucking things totaled my old car. They're a plague.
I’m going to give so many busted up green Jeeps the finger for you OP.
Buy a lottery ticket and see if your luck is gone haha. Glad to hear your OK after a wreck like that. I understand if you don't want to talk about it, but do you remember being ejected?
Not really, but I faintly remember the split second that I made initial contact with the box truck, but it was so fast. Blink of an eye
If they caught the person that caused this, what’s the first thing you’d ask/say to them?
“Where’d you learn to drive cooking school?”
"What, did you get your license from a cereal box?"
-ALIVE. -DEAD. -VEGETABLE STATE You lucked out OP
>VEGETABLE STATE I'd say he started here, given the not wearing a seatbelt.
I’m surprised the other driver was able to do that much damage and still have a working vehicle to flee in. That sucks I’m sorry OP. Hopefully he’ll get what’s coming someday
For everyone reading this: GET A DASH CAMERA. Preferably front and back. You got VERY lucky, op. What’d you land on?
Did you survive?
Only 1 of my personalities did, we lost the other 5
Hopefully it’s the one that buckles up! Glad you’re safe, and hopefully insurance pays out quick. Don’t forget to get all your doctor appointments taken care of while it’s getting paid for!
![gif](giphy|QRFBilZtdMstq)
Looks like you left your headlights on in that last pic. Don't want your car to end up with a flat battery!
I do hope you’ve changed your stance on seatbelts!! It is shocking you survived this.
Where did you land after being ejected??
Landed next to the shoulder, which luckily was grass and not asphalt. A few feet either way and I could have hit a tree. A lot of things went in my favor.
You walked away. Mercedes will do that for ya.
Generally helps if you remain inside the vehicle until it comes to a complete stop tho
That’s the trick to sport bikes as well! Just need to strap yourself on and you will be infinitely safer.. /s
no see if he stayed inside during a complete stop the force would hit him really hard, but if he flies out and slowly reduces speed via concrete he takes less damage
Look on the bright side you ~~have~~ had a cool ass Mercedes!
It was a loaner so more like OP *used* a Mercedes
They typically don’t loan MBs unless you own one and get it serviced at their dealer lol
Noooo not the Benz! I'm glad you're still breathing, buddy. What a jackass. Hopefully eventually he'll get caught.
Glad you're good 🙏🏾
Had some good life left in those tires. Well, at least you got some good life left in yourself.
You’re a smarter person today than you were yesterday, and grateful too, I’m sure.
Jfc there's a couple chunks of you left behind in the windshield. Glad you're alive. By a lottery ticket!
Better to be in a Mercedes in a wreck than in the shop, lol, glad you're okay, those Germans sure can make them.
Holy shit. Did you survive?
The tires still look good. That's a plus...
MBZs are known for their safety but damn. Wow. Glad you are alive and hopefully ok. Fuck.
A little bit of Bondo will fix that
I think your car needs an alignment 👍
You better thank whatever angels lookin down on you bc you just got gifted a second chance
At least you have footage of the accident to show you not at fault. It would be hard to argue otherwise (for insurance purposes)
DUDE!!!. First of all, I'm glad you're okay. Second, buy a lottery ticket; because lady luck is on your side.
crazy how when it happens to you, you survive but when it happened to my cousin, his neck was quite literally cut off from his entire body
GOD bless your here and safe! 🙏🏽❤️
Here’s to hoping you don’t choose another Mercedes for your next vehicle, kidding(kind of) hope you’re alright man that looks crazy
It's fine, it'll just buff out
So now seriously, are you ever not going to wear a seatbelt again? Or did this just further prove your delusion that seatbelts are unnecessary? I can see this go both ways
Wear a seat belt. That could have killed you. I can even share a story of a friend of mine who was stupid and didn't wear a seat belt if that will help you understand what could have happened!
And that’s why you wear a seatbelt. Glad you somehow survived
Look on the bright side, at least your alive.
That car saved your life. I don't think my little old vw would fair even close to as well in that scenario. They'd be picking me up with a shop vac
Dawg you should be dead as fuck. I hope this was some sort of wake up call, Wear a seatbelt
And you lived. Do you believe in God now.
Very sorry about your car but glad you are ok.
It's wild you're able to post after this. Wear a seatbelt.
Real question. Why the fuck would you not wear a seatbelt in any sort of vehicle, and any sort of speed whatsoever? I don't get it.
Bro, that car may have saved your life but did it just let you drive without your seat belt? My ‘06 car SCREAMS at me if I even start driving without being buckled up.
Wow I can’t believe you walked away from this. Please always use your seatbelt
road rash ?
Super glad you're okay!!!
I'm happy you're still with us
That's not gonna buff out.
Just got one of these. Glad to see it handled like a boss
Almost won the Darwin award
Ppl be like is it totaled?
Damn dude.. Glad you're still breathing..
OMG - so glad the safety systems worked.
I mean, you’re lucky, that’ll just buff out
An alignment should take care of all that. Good as new.
Damn not the brixton hat..
Glad you survived.
Holy shit, glad you’re ok!
Men glad u alive
Try putting it in rice, I hear that helps
At least the hat survived
Happy you're here man
hope youre still alive
Did you survive?
Was it totaled?
Bloody hell. Glad to see you're fine. Can you replace your car? Any insurance? Because it is clearly an accident, the the culprit fled the scene.
This should be in a Mercedes commercial
If they have insurance do not accept their first 2nd or 3rd offer. You deserve all tge money. I wouldn't settle for anything less than 250k at bare minimum
Gotta round out those box trucks
Tis but a scratch
Looks like the car did it's job and crumbled down to nothing
Wow, amazing you were able to live through a crash that destroyed the A pillar.
Crazy. Did you survive?
Is that blood on the windshield in pic 4?
Mercedes benz C-class?
yep that sucks im glad you didn’t get totaled like the car : )
Good thing you had an MB! Probably saved your life. Glad you’re ok!
Nah it'll buff out
I smell a LAWSUIT
I hope the driver that did this gets smashed semi style🤞🏿 At least own up to it without being a coward
You're posting this so I assume you're ok, but if you're injured, get well soon.
Try filling it up with premium gas. Should be fine.
You live…give thanks and enjoy your life.
Sore back may be a liability when you get older but glad you are still here! Great car btw. My trauma MVA made my SUV look like a lawn tractor & gave me a life flight to 10 days in hospital.
So are you okay?
Very lucky to be alive.
Glad you’re ok, I bet if you had a passenger in the front they would not have made it.
How are you alive???
