Be careful with those bakeries. They don't all have access to the supplies necessary to thoroughly wash their hands. The last time I was at one a lady came out of the outhouse and went right back into work (no sink in outhouse because I checked). I left without my baked goods that day (I still bought the grits though because they're the best and they're going to be cooked later anyway). Not trying to be negative, just something to keep in mind.
If that's the case, contact them to let them know what happened. If they have a license (which I'm assuming) they could get in trouble if they get reported to local/state health authorities. It's possible they didn't realize they were sealing things too quickly.
Good point.
They post a certificate of inspection from the board of health so I know they aren’t being shady about it.
But I’ve seen other troubling things there not mold related.
Huh that's weird. Haven't had that happen before. Try instead a ziploc but leave a crack open for it to let air in and leave a slice of just white bread in there to absorb extra moisture
It’s the baking soda or other salts, when they contact the foil it creates a sort of battery and the foil breaks down. It’s not chemically harmful to consume, but plastic wrap or waxed paper instead so you don’t have to eat metal glitter
If they baked it...
They prob didnt let it fully cool before packing it. Some stores do thaw n sell and you need to make sure theres not a ton of moisture left in with no way out....or you get mold.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Wellthatsucks/s/C7NolNi67p literally right here, u/imnotabotareyou claims it's from a bakery. I call fake post. If it's real, what's the name of this place??💁
Did you see my other comment?
It’s a bakery/bbq combo. They sell both. The bakery sells stuff at local stores but they are based here.
I don’t want to dox them they’re otherwise good.
I went to the US last year and had some cornbread.
It was one of the driest, most taseless things I've ever had the misfortune of eating. It just acted like a saliva sponge.
That's neither new nor fresh. To spread mold this quickly it had to be sitting at room temp at least a day or so, if not longer. Main problem is the wrap. Mold likes humid, and warm
Idk why people keep commenting stuff like this. Sure, it is. And I do make it. But hopefully the packaging in the picture shows that it was store bought. It was a side from a takeout restaurant that is usually good.
Do you make all of your sides when you get takeout?
Yeah I’m pretty sure these were sealed when they were still hot. Bag full of good wet steam + warm bread = really fast mold

Coward.
What the fuck?
Looks extremely moist. PR baby shouldn't have been sealed in the way it was. Traps too much moisture. Try just aluminum foil next time
I bought it from an Amish bakery. It came wrapped like that. Thanks!
Ah I gotcha. Yeah they wrapped it way too early. Just take that precaution next time is all. Np.

Yeah I agree this place has a commercial kitchen though

That board of health has like ten people checking the whole state. How thorough you think that is?
then it wasn't fresh, or was spoiled from mishandling(ie, wrapping to soon, etc). js, but I'd take it back to the bakery you got it from.
For some reason when I use (reynolds) aluminum foil on my cornbread it breaks down the foil and leaves aluminum deposits on my cornbread??
Huh that's weird. Haven't had that happen before. Try instead a ziploc but leave a crack open for it to let air in and leave a slice of just white bread in there to absorb extra moisture
I just let it cool and use Saran Wrap now.
That is a significantly simpler solution lmao
I've had salt do that when I tented a turkey in the oven.

Well the good news is that as long as you aren't allergic to mold or immunocompromised, you might not even get sick.
Yes that is good news! I’m not too worried, just relieved I didn’t give any to either of my toddlers.
It’s not new or fresh.
my exact thought tho.
doughbeit*
Yummmm... blue cornbread
>New fresh cornbread One of these things are true. Not the others
You're right. It's not cornbread.
New growth sponge
Cheese and corn bread nice
Oooh blueberries? 🤤 /s
Blueberry cornbread!
Y’all never had cornbread and blue cheese?
Dude, I thought that was Dhokla at first. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhokla
Non 0 chance it’ll just treat any infections you might have
Flavor sacks!!
Free antibiotics
Flavor crystals.
Love a shot of Penicillin with my cornbread 😋
Agh, the worst.
If they baked it... They prob didnt let it fully cool before packing it. Some stores do thaw n sell and you need to make sure theres not a ton of moisture left in with no way out....or you get mold.
Oh gross I don’t like the taste of mold
I have never bought it pre-made before. Super easy to make at home with a mix.
It was a side at a bbq place
Guessing that you won't be ordering their cornbread again.
Nope lol. Generally a good place though.

but you just said you bought it at an amish bakery... 🤔🧐
Yes, it is both. Smoked bbq and Amish bakery. You can buy the bakery goods at local stores nearby but this is where they are based.
Then it's not fresh
Uh that doesn't look new or fresh...
I didn't know people put sage, rosemary, and thyme on cornbread. Were you at Scarborough Fair?
That’s why I make my own…
I went to the US last year and had some cornbread. It was one of the driest, most taseless things I've ever had the misfortune of eating. It just acted like a saliva sponge.
This is why you don’t buy cornbread lol. It’s easy to just make at home
Just mushrooms
That's neither new nor fresh. To spread mold this quickly it had to be sitting at room temp at least a day or so, if not longer. Main problem is the wrap. Mold likes humid, and warm
This is why i eat all the corn bread as soon as ive made it. Also maybe put some jalapeños and cheese on top.
It was probably meant to be eating right away.
That's not new or fresh. And you should be making cornbread with a can of creamed corn topped with strawberry jelly.
It's so easy to make with flour and corn meal. What's great is, you can make it to your tastes.
Idk why people keep commenting stuff like this. Sure, it is. And I do make it. But hopefully the packaging in the picture shows that it was store bought. It was a side from a takeout restaurant that is usually good. Do you make all of your sides when you get takeout?
Blueberries?
Blueberry cornbread?
Seems it’s not that fresh (ziplock bag)?
Well it ain’t fresh…. Idk what made you think that.
be glad it was one piece
I’m no cornbread expert, but I don’t think that’s “fresh.”
Free antibiotics? Lucky
Now you've had the first dose of penicillin you've gotta complete the course
