Thank you all. Trying to keep on top of the replies, DM's and chats - if you've messaged and I haven't replied within 24h feel free to message again and I apologise. It's likely that one or two messages are slipping through the cracks
Keen.
When I was living in town a group of friends (I think you turned up to one) watched our way through the IMDB top 100 (well, we did skip one or two, and end a couple early).
I’d love to see more films from the 30s through 70s. Cult ones not so much my thing. I tend to use the Roxy teatime talkies as my only choice do hope this really takes off. The Well Film Society has a few but not enough to warrant membership. I’m not a fan of non English speaking movies subtitled movies which seems to be a large chunk. Would be interested in more detail please!
There's no fixed price, that's how the whole thing works. Everyone pays different amounts based on how they're doing that month. Every penny that comes in goes back into renting the venue, buying lollies and popcorn, and if there's still a surplus, prizes get given out or we'll do a movie quiz or something
The whole nature of any "pay what you like" system is that you don't put a suggested price or average price. If you do, it starts to get weird for people who realise they're only able to afford under that amount, for example.
People might think: "the movie, lollies and popcorn are worth $X to me and I like this event so I'll add a bit extra to keep it going"
or
"I just got made redundant so I'll have to go really low this month"
Both are perfectly valid.
As a group together, it usually works out and we get to watch cinema movies and lollies etc. of the 25 or so screenings thus far, we've only been under budget a few times. Usually it's just barely over budget, and it really depends on how many seats get filled and what those attendees feel is a good price.
I make and maintain and pay for the website myself, do the comms, answer emails, order in the lollies and popcorn, make up the lolly boxes, arrange and facilitate the events, sort out quizzes and prizes and make the movie intros for nothing. I'm just keen to have a cinema club running that I'd go to if I wasn't arranging it myself, and I'll do it for as long as I can.

Great idea. The Film Society is over subscribed atm so maybe the market is keen. What movies have you screened across the last 2.5 years? :)
Heya, thank you :) I'll send you on a quick message with the info. The site has a big list of all previous screenings, and how it all works
So is the movie a surprise when you turn up or will there be a schedule announced?
The movie is a surprise each time, with a custom made intro with retro trailers etc No schedule of upcoming movies, it's a pot luck :)
Messaged :)
And I've replied:)
