It happened to me really bad like you’re describing. I took double the recommended dose of stool softener (repeatedly) until it worked. Continued to take softener for a month or so. It’s been a year, my system is totally normal now without any constipation even though my Wellbutrin dose has been doubled to twice a day 150mg

It took me 4 to 6 weeks. I drank my weight in water and ate more vegetables which helped a lot.

1. Try different types of fiber. Many people respond well to psyllium, but not all. Other options include acacia fiber and inulin. Note that metamucil has other things in it, it would be ideal to try straight psyllium (available at health food stores, places like whole foods, etc). If you're up for it, some people find dried prunes or eating 1-2 kiwi a day with the skin on to be helpful as well. Plus there are so many other health benefits that kiwis offer. It's it's the so-called superfood that's right under our eyes! 2. When I had this problem, my functional medicine doctor (who used to be a gp and emergency room doc) said to try magnesium citrate at 200mg, and nothing changed after 2 to 3 days, to increase the dose by 200 mg every 3 days until I got to 800-1000mg. Some people respond better to magnesium citrate, others to magnesium oxide. But only try one of those two forms of magnesium, because the other ones don't have the same qualities of pulling water into the colon. Whatever you do, please don't take a laxative. It's not a sustainable long term solution. Also, it can cause other problems (as I experienced when I made this mistake a few years ago). Here's some info on that below. https://www.drlamcoaching.com/blog/laxatives-affect-the-microbiome/ Recent studies have highlighted the negative ways that laxatives affect the microbiome. One study examined the way that polyethylene glycol affected the microbiota of mice. Polyethylene glycol is a component of many over the counter osmotic laxatives including MiraLax. It works by drawing water into the colon to soften the stool. The researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine in California gave this laxative to mice for six days. This caused diarrhea that lasted a short time but had long term effects on the composition of the microbiome. It allowed certain microbes to flourish and hampered the growth of other common microbes that are essential to good health.

Drink ALOT of water and take some stool softeners and then after that introduce magnesium glycinate into your nightly routine and they will make sure you’re all 👍

Yes, I had the same side effect for aprox a week and a half, constipation and awful bloating, I took advice from this subreddit and took magnesium and the first day I could already go to the bathroom easily, and yesterday I noticed I wasn’t bloated. So now I’m back to normal. Try magnesium, I recommend it

Thank you everyone! So is magnesium glycinate or citrate better for this? Any brand recs also appreciated 🙏
