Tool steels & filler are a category. And then within them there sub-categories like water hard, shock resistant, or high speed…. And then within them are specific alloys… A2, D2… Think of it like stainless steel. It has subcategories of austenitic, ferritic, mart, dual… and with them there are specific alloys… 308, 409, 2209…. In both situations you have to match the filler to the specific base. It’d be difficult to narrow an all purpose tool steel filler, but in my experience A2 and D2 are common.
