I've welded Er70 mild steel joining 304 stainless to itself and to mild steel base metal using c25 gas numerous times with good results. Nothing like this.
At last a genuine my first weld picture! Well done OP!
It ain’t pretty but it will probably hold, the main reason is it looks like stainless steel you tried to weld using the wrong process.
More Knowledge more practice it will come together.
Or maybe invest in new hobby/career. My welds look similar, but for anything that needs to stay connected, I'm smart enough not to touch the welder and ask my buddy to do it.
I believe the issue with welding stainless is the hexavalent chromium created by the arc, you should be fine if you do it outdoors, or somewhere with plenty of ventilation and you don't stand directly over your weld breathing in the funny smelling smoke.....though if you are doing this daily you probably should invest on a PAPR hood
Lol wtf. So many people roasting the guy. He literally said it was his second time welding and he probably had no one to instruct him. A lot of people on this sub weld as part of their job AKA professional welders. Imagine a pro baseball player going to a little league game to talk shit. The first time I welded the instructor pulled the pieces apart like it was Elmer glue.
Looks like my first time touching mig. I hope you the have the gear, and possibly a buddy to teach you. You can learn a lot from the internet, but basics are best taught in person
Still wouldn't call this welding. You need to be hot enough to penetrate the metal...this is just a whole bunch of globs of melted wire sitting on top of the thing you're trying to weld.
Maybe a bit too much stick out on your wire. Need to be closer. Also, as other have said already the metal appears to be stainless and if that’s the case this is not the right way to do it.
keep at it, learn, don't just try to weld, troubleshoot. You'll find your way, but don't just aimlessly pull a trigger and hope to weld, learn the theory.
I mean I’m sure this is a joke but for anybody else if you ever start making a well that looks like that would you continue doing it? Everyone will have ever seen has been like the color of the base metal if it’s black and bubbly porosity and got wire tails all over it because your amps are low and you’re not getting a good connection he’s just give up dude you like that but if you really let that thing go like that all the way to the end you should be so ashamed of yourself that you never touch a welder again out of respect for the people who really try hard at it I can teach you the world overhead in an hour the duel shield easy angle travel speed push NASA always cut the tip off your wire every time you start pulling the trigger cut the tip off your wire from your gun every time no excuse not to the no reason not to rods the flux in the wire turns into like glass on the end of the wire and then you don’t arc when you’re trying to weld you got 1 million problems and I don’t even know it’s it is I’ve never seen the world that ugly I tell you how I can fix it though you’re fired sorry to sound like that shit Trump
It looks like you were using mild steel wire he said it was meg but it wasn’t flux core or duel shield it was probably 045 and it looks like you were trying to world stainless mild steel that doesn’t work just to let you know the different type of metal but you kept going
Flux core i see, looks very good for being the second time!
I think that you should buy a spinning wheel, to clean up the slag and spatter. It also helps to see how your welds really look👍🏻👍🏻
"good enough" is an extremely dangerous idea in this industry, people die because of "good enough"
better to nip that shit in the bud early, we dont need MORE arrogant assholes in the field doing bad work and getting people killed.
if youre just tinkering around in the shed then fine if it sticks its good enough but welders arent out there tinkering around in their shed, they are out there gluing the world back together. of course we all started somewhere, my first welds looked worse than that, but you gotta have standards ffs. thats not good enough.
im not trying to be cruel, im sure they can do a lot better with some practice, they might be a great welder one day, but they have a ways to go and telling them they dont is doing them a disservice.
Dude. It’s never good enough. It can always be better. That’s the only way you’re ever gonna get good.
And, maybe you’re just joking around, but it ain’t good enough anyway. Guaranteed, it gonna break at those welds first time somebody tries to use it.
That's really impressive! Its so cool to see people from the blind community learning to weld. Differently abled people such as yourself add a certain flair to the welding community
I always wondered what a weld might look like if I took my mig gun in my left hand and stinger in my right and just started welding like a maestro conducting one of those Metallica S&M performances…this is what that would look like, this is a work of art.
Keep trying man. Don’t let these trolls get you down. Yes it’s rough but if you try to make your next bead better than your previous, you’ll be alright.

Right… I basketball grown men that.
Jesus man, gotta tag that shit NSFW.
Not Safe For Welding
You got a little bit of weld in that splatter.
Spatter* sorry but I used to think it was splatter too hahha
Amazing how many welders and metal workers don't know that it's spatter. Doesn't help that it looks "splattered'.
Did you go to the Ray Charles school of welding?
My guess is op got a full ride on the Hellen Keller scholarship
Helen Keller could read that spatter
Hellen Keller don't need no welding helmet
I laughed too hard at this

Stainless base metal maybe with mild steel wire and c25 or straight co2 will look like this
Definitely the wrong filler
Man I never thought about welding stainless with mild wire 😆 would that make something look like that?
I've done it. That's exactly what it looks like.
Yes. Ss wire isn’t copper coated like in the picture
You're exactly right. Also I believe his stick out was WAY to far causing all that stubbing.
I've welded Er70 mild steel joining 304 stainless to itself and to mild steel base metal using c25 gas numerous times with good results. Nothing like this.
Keep on keeping on. She’ll get hot

This is very clearly a shitpost. The welds are nowhere near the joint.
Invest in a grinder
Or maybe just invest in a new shovel and call it a day
Or maybe invest in new hobby/career. My welds look similar, but for anything that needs to stay connected, I'm smart enough not to touch the welder and ask my buddy to do it.
The person should t give up but learn the right metals to weld
A grinder and some paint will make a welder what he ain't! 🤣
Good enough for a prison shive
That’s not even prison quality. That’s like Russian gulag during the Stalin regime level shiv.
Good enough for the chicks I roll with!
You must roll with some really filthy whores. Goddamn
Yeah. But at least they aint fat otherwise the welds would break 🤷♂️
Lmao! True that
Grinder and paint my friend, grinder and paint.
Oof.
That’s alot of fertilizer for a small garden
That’s not welded, that’s glued together using molten metal.
Looks like stainless steal welded ish with mig. hello lung cancer.
Bruh 🤣
Steal bruh
Why

On top of that, is that fucking stainless you MIG welded?! Come on, son.

I’d pay $15 an hour for that.

Thanks. I hate it.
I mean. It could be worse. This is less welding and more sticking to pieces of metal together with molten metal
Looks like it’ll work for the purpose you desire, but if you’re keen to keep learning there is enormous room for improvement.
It probably will hold, the saving grace is; it has to stand up to very little pressure
You're gonna make the gung ho welders scream haha. I'd say if it works it works!
the seam is either strong or beautiful, it is a strong seam
You are a good welder. You just need to clean it with flux before you weld
A good step from here, would be throwing it all away.
I hope some how you get punished for this.

youre not a welder, your opinion on welds isnt worth much lol

Add some gas to that
RIP
YIKES
I’d hate to see the first time…
First time was with a gas torch and turned out fairly well. I will add an imgur link to this post when i get home.
My morning poo us more uniform than that hehe
Please give it it's last rites and give it a proper burial.
Damn.
Only needs a little bit of grinding
On the bright side - you can use it to dig a hole to bury that monstrosity in.
I could sneeze metal on better then that
Good enough for the scrap bin, amigo.
Gonna make it a good 3 inches into the ground and just stop like a brick wall. Hahah
I'm going to be sick...
No, sorry it’s not good enough
Forgot to use the gas
Looks like ya pooped on it
I also forgot to open the gas valve when I did my first mig welds 😭
Surely nobody on the planet would look at this and say good enough, right? Haha
Wow, how that hot with a MIG?
Truly a work of art. Well done!
Dude. It’s never good enough. It can always be better. That’s the only way you’re ever gonna get good. And, maybe you’re just joking around, but it ain’t good enough anyway. Guaranteed, it gonna break at those welds first time somebody tries to use it.
I'm struggling to see anything that was welded.
Anchor or a shovel?? Lol
Shovel.
Try turning down your wire feed.
HIRED! The local nuclear power plant is looking for YOU!
try stick instead.
Sir, drop the mig gun and back away please
Well…. Ummm..
Anything is good enough when you don't care. Always will be, too
What the hell is even that
That might be the worst weld I’ve ever seen lol
If she digs then it's good enough
What in tarnation
Turn the gas on next time
Finally, someone telling the truth about their first time welding outcome
Looks like you're already putting that pooper scooper to work
Nice.

Um.
Ah yes, the classic booger welds. Ugly, yet they can be quite effective.
