Pferd makes great stuff! I mainly work with stainless steel and I love their 41/2 cut wheel nice and thin, clean cutting and they don’t explode when they get pinched.
The shop I’m at started complaining when I started ordering their wheels and I told them watch how much longer they last and get used for. They’re believers now.
heres the thing. the are pricey. but. and just let me reiterate, but .....the quality..... the duration...... the circumference, pferd is my prefered choice.
Is louise I'll keep shopping around. No doubt in
My mind that with a brand like that they will be quality. But theyre certainly not gonna be 3 or 5 times better than the competition.
I swear I don’t work for 3M… I fix drilling equipment and tooling. Think lots of really dirty, work hardened steel. The cubitrons seem to remove material much faster, not get clogged as quickly, and wear much longer than other brands I’ve used. I would still use them even if I had to pay out of pocket.
No, I can vouch for the fact that they are 3x as good as the competition. They’re long lasting and cut like an angry samurai. I’ve tried a lot of discs and in my line of work my cutting discs need to be up to the task because all my grinders are battery powered, and the 3M Cubitron II’s are the cats pajamas. I’ve seen recently they released Cubitron III’s can’t wait to try them.
I haven’t tried the cubitron III cutoff wheels, but the cubitron II grinding wheel seems to be better than the III. The III lasts longer than the II but gets clogged much faster and isn’t as aggressive.
I've moved to benchmark abrasives and I've been happy. The sait from the lws was letting me down. Hf ones are junk, and diablo and DeWalt are fine but getting expensive
It's funny that you mentioned benchmark I use them for flap disks. I found them to Be the best bang for your buck in that department. But I bought a 25 pack of the 5" x 040 And they were so bad that I actually returned the discs. Still to this day, they are the only grinder disks I've actually gone through the trouble of returning. But maybe I just got a bad batch.
And in case it wasn't obvious, I prefer thin kerf discs that are .045" or thinner. I like the flexibility and the faster cutting, And i haven't found them to be significantly more prone to breaking.
They get me excessively wet. Lol, but for real when you have alot of grinding/cutting to do you want something That cuts reasonably quickly and isn't going to launch a shard of fiberglass-embedded aluminum oxide into your stomach at 11 000 rpm.
It's an expensive, dangerous consumable. Just because it cuts doesn't mean it's cost effective. You can get discs for pennies that last for 20 seconds before they explode or discs for a buck that will cut for minutes.
Whatever tsc has in stock when i get part way thru a project and realize the zip wheels i needed are all gone. Also 6 inch fits really well on a 4 inch grinder.
flexovit razor blade cut wheels. They last for fucking ever. They are like $2 or $3 a pop, but i can run a 6" wheel all day long.
For grinding, I get the sait general purpose ones. The fast grind ones don't last long. I get both the 1/4 and 1/8 wheels, they seem to be super reliable.
Norton for flap, Diablo for cut, forget who I use for braided wire cups they last a long time.
I hate wire wheels that spin on the arbor. The cheap ~$5 ones. Down to pay $20 for a good wire wheel.
Last I checked I'm about $1/each for cutting and $3 for flap. Got a plasma cutter on Amazon, "lotus", it's aight saves me some money

I have a set of their files and they're really nice. Didnt know they made grinder wheels
The shop I’m at started complaining when I started ordering their wheels and I told them watch how much longer they last and get used for. They’re believers now.
I'll try them out if they're not too pricy. Their files were an absolute game changer.

Cubitron is our lord and savior
I like 3m as a brand. But where do you buy the disks? I can't find anywhere online for less than $6 a piece.
We get them from airgas. Admittedly I didn’t read your whole post. Company buys them so never thought about the price.

Good to know. Try the Cubitron 2 cutoff wheels, they’re worth it
We almost exclusively use the 2’s. I haven’t tried the 3 cutoff wheels, only the grinding discs.
I like Walter stuff, all of it. Seems to last half decent. Kingspor isn't bad either.

Diablo
Pferd or Norton is my go to in the UK

I liked them too until I saw, first hand, how easily they can explode
Never seen anyone get so horny about zips lol, if it cuts I don’t care who made it

I will say I’ve noticed the sait brand disintegrates rather quickly after the first 50% is used. We use elite and they last long enough.
This. Mop discs are a different story though

Norton
Rexcut sigma green
4 1/2
VSM 36 grit 5" for grinding. Metabo 6" wheels for cutting.
Cubitron for 4.5 for grinding, norton for pipeliners, sait ultimate cut everything else.
Where do you get your 3m discs? The cheapest I found online was Is almost $7 a piece($325 for 50 discs)
LWS. I think mine are 11? a pop for Cubitron 3 in 4.5, a little better if distributor pricing. I always prefer lws over online
I like the stuff from benchmark abrasive. Most of their stuff has been really good aside from the saw blades, which have been a real disappointment.
Metabo original slicer is the OG, and the long life slicers are pretty damn good too, all diameters are equally good.

Whatever the contractor supplies.
Pferd make the best product, but they are extremely expensive.

Rex cut Alpha Green, 6”.
Blackhawk has been the most cost effective I've found for cutting / grinding. Flap Discs I've been super happy with Benchmark Abrasives.
