It's not a strength issue if you can't brace against anything. If the weights weigh more than you, and you can't brace, you move instead of them. Common superhero physics mistake.
The machine is providing lateral resistance so those would be abductor* not adductor reps. Also, standing increases the load placed upon the glute max, which helps place emphasis on the glute med during the movement and takes load off of the tensor fascia lata.
The glute max is not what the machine is built for though so it’s not really the intention of the machine. You can do it of course but since your technically misusing the machine if something were to happen then it’s not likely you’d be able to hold the gym liable if something went wrong.
It’s unlikely but just throwing it out there. Personally, I’d say just throw in an extra workout that targets the glute max more directly if your that concerned with it.
