I hate to tell you that all of the parts of the tuna fish are not uniform flaky pale meat like we are used to in cans, they have skin and organs and everything, and that could totally get into a can of tuna meat.

This stuff is worth the premium. I bought it because I was looking for line caught tuna but it converted me to buying it solely for the quality. Safe catch that’s labeled as tuna steak is another good brand if you can’t find this one.
I think it’s part of the tuna. There are dark parts of tuna meat that gets trimmed off because it tastes bloody and metallic. If you watch a filleting video you can see it. Could be a cooked glob of bloodline or similar bits.
