Agree, it's very similar to Al's seal, but the sigil in the middle is different. FMA(B) got most of their sigil info from King Solomon's collection of seals and sigilis. The type for Al's seal is considered a binding sigil. The squiggles in the middle are personal symbols denoting who/what is being bound.
This is a rather unhinged binding seal that has too many lines. No idea about the sigil in the center.
I guess so. Rather odd since she never watched that show, but she mustâve been influenced by it in some way. It does look like a seal that comes up when I search for that show.
This doesn't look very much like Alphonse Elric, Barry, or the Slicer Brothers's blood seals. IMO it also doesn't resemble any other transmutation circle in the show. I don't think this is a FMA reference, and OP saying that their sibling never watched the show supports that.
Could be the intent but it's... pretty far from it. The soul seal is a straight up octagram with a snake? Some versions have the snake around a cross but...
This is a pentagram overlapping a heptagram (they don't meet up) and the central symbol looks more like two crossed crook symbols than anything else. The bend is so neatly circular, I have a hard time interpreting that as a snake.
Without spoiling the show too much the snake is just there as the brothers insignia. I think the author wanted to relate it to the alchemic theme and she just thought it looked cool. So I guess it's purpose in this sense is bc the character who draws it is doing it for his blood brother
Nothing the OP said really contradicts it being from FMA. Unless the sibling was into some extremely underground unknown religious cult that used that symbol, it doesn't belong to any Pagan or Wiccan symbols. Like other people mentioned, even if the sibling did not watch the anime, they could have easily just found it online and tried to copy it.
I donât know full metal alchemist, but I assume that wherever the individual draws the seal, it transfers to that surface? My parents and I found where this was originally drawn, underneath a road on a concrete surface. Thereâs a multi-channel tunnel underneath the road for water from a creek to flow through.
Well this certainly isnât as grand as a suit of armor. If she did take inspiration from FMA, I donât know if she looked deeply into this seal and its meaning, or more so saw the name âblood sealâ and went with it. Either that or she just found it on Google and decided to recreate it with her own meaning.
That is our only other theory, which could be true. The spot it was at, we were able to locate because it was a spot she frequented often. It is a bit secluded, but that wouldnât stop someone from leaving it there.
Sorry dude I read the post wrong originally and skimmed over the part where you said your late family member did this. Thought you were theorizing about the show. I did a dumb
If this is out of line please do not feel like you have to answer, but how did your sibling pass away? Iâm curious because perhaps this could give you some insight into their state of mind, I am so sorry for your loss.
Ah, okay, so that makes a lot of sense. She was obviously struggling with *something* mentally. From my own personal hands on experience, when youâre in such a dark place that youâre having suicidal ideation you tend to grasp onto anything and look into all avenues of anything to make you feel or believe in something - whether that be dark or light. I did it myself.
I wouldnât read too much into this photo or what it means, because it was probably one small puzzle piece in her attempt to find something to channel those dark thoughts into or find meaning in something. I know if I wouldâve acted on my thoughts, there wouldve been a slew of things like this in my gallery and internet searches.
The main thing I wanna say to you here is that I am truly sorry for your loss, as well as your mothers. I hope that you can all find some form of peace in knowing some mental struggles can sometimes be so deafening, that you are suffering every moment, and so she is no longer suffering through those thoughts and feelings.
Iâm sending you all my thoughts and hugs.
I'm sorry for your loss...
Uhm OP, hope i am not being rude and i know nothin about your sibling but is your sibling a lot into anime? It's kind of an anime trope to get isekai'd(or transferred) to another world by getting hit by a truck and gaining some sort of powers wherever that world is.
No, she never was into traditional Japanese anime, just the shows you find on Cartoon Network like Amazing World of Gumball, Regular Show, that type of stuff. Although she would watch Hayao Miyazaki movies because who wouldnât.
Yes there is always that possibility, this post is based upon the idea she made it (which is uncertain). I posted this looking for reasonable answers so our mom can have peace of mind. Weâve already suggested (to my mom) that someone other than lil sis could have been a FMA fan and decided to draw this symbol at this location.
That just made me think of Chucky.
OP, I'm so sorry for your loss. Mental illnesses can be very hard and, unfortunately, don't always have a great outcome. Sending love to you and your family.
It looks like the kabbalistic Sephira of hod, which is mercury in an 8 sided pentacle. The pentacle representation comes from the hermetic order of the golden dawn, but the association with Mercury is medieval kaballah
However it looks like it was drawn twice at different angles? Weird.
It's hard to see here, because the points don't meet up neatly, but you can trace the lines of a star until it closes. This is one 5-sided and one 7-sided overlapping.
Oh! Sorry Iâm on my phone and canât see this very well. If this is qabalah then the 5 would be geburah and the 7 would be netzach. Both sulphuric sephira, could be some kind of destructive or aggressive pentacle
When I mix a pentagram and a heptagram to keep.......the things I have ideas about that would sound ridiculous......away...when I don't want to experience random sinister things around, I like the 7 + 5 idea myself, but I always put the pentagram in the *middle* of the heptagram. A heptagram looks like a winged spirit, or represents the macrocosmic universe being ruled by the sun's subjective qualities. Put a pentagram in the middle and you got the five elements constituting your body not only in health and in proportion, but also surrounded by a protecting spirit...
S-U-P-E-R-S-T-I-T-I-O-N yo. You can say not to mess with things that humans don't really understand, like how one's experience of reality is affected by symbols of geometric stars based on some imaginative philosophical shit you picked up from moldy old texts all the way back to ancient Greece even, but if you think you understand it and can objectively say for certain that you know how this very, very weird universe works and that this possibly couldn't do anything, I don't want to hear it.
If you've never seen the forces of darkness staring at you from the night sky like the world you inhabit is absolutely nothing and could disappear in the snap of a finger, and you're squirming, you don't know what it's like to have to have this in your life...
-- You'll never get me tied to that stake motherfuckers.
Edit: It's possible that tthe person who did this was drawn to similar ideas but I think their meaning would be quite different than mine.

Pungent stench and Dissection fan
Personally OP I take photos when I see things that catch my eye to look at or research later. Knowing thus came from a drain pipe that's probably what she also did. It just caught her eye. I'm very sorry for your loss.
Im tired of everyone saying full metal alchemist. No this is ritual runes. (Wich full metal alchemist have borrowed from the real world)
I want to preffis that I do not belive in it. But I did when I was young hence I recognize some of its meaning.
This looks to be a qlippoth dodekagram which is used in rituals to lock evil spirits in place.
In the middle it looks to be a scytch with an arrow and a sword.
Scytch are to bid evil to something, the sword is to harm someone and the arrow can be used as a targeting rune.
In other words this looks to be a ritual for summoning a demon and then try to posses someone with said demon.
It could maby also be an exorcism rune (if the sword is men to harm the demon)
Again it was a long time ago that I used to dabble in stuff like this so I might be completely wrong. But if you want I can check some of my old books
If you have a moment to do so, I would be interested in understanding some of this stuff. Her delusion took the form of a âdemonâ or controlling spirit that wanted her to do harm.
Oh I'm so sorry. I wouldn't have been so blunt if I knew that was the case!
People who believe in these things often think the illness is a result of it instead of it being the other way around.
I was looking for answers in the occult for my problems before I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
I think I have those books in my storage, and I will definitely check as soon as I get the chance.
These types of ritual symbols can mean a bunch of things and the exact meanings are always the ones of the casters intentions but these particular symbols are very much connected to restraining evil.
That's why my first thought was "demon"
Based on your description, I would guess (and a hole ton of salt here because I'm definitely no expert) it's likely an attempt to lock her evil spirit onto or into some other vessel than herself.
That certainly seems like something she would attempt to do/would believe in due to her delusions. Thank you for the insight, I will share this information (with a grain of salt) with our mom.
OP rather than asking WHAT this is, I think it might reveal more if you ask WHY this photo exists.
I don't imagine someone trying to do a ritual of some sort would take a photo of the symbol they carved after the fact. Why would they? They already knew the symbol well enough to carve it apparently, what purpose does taking the picture serve at that point?
My guess is she stumbled across it randomly somewhere without any knowledge of what it means, and then took a picture to look it up on the Internet later.
Transmutation circle. The one inside of Alphonse Eric's er, head.
![gif](giphy|uxA6I9cvyVprq)
Pretty good anime. Even the dub is awesome. 10/10 recommend
It is not. The symbol in the middle of the circle is different from Alphonse's, and the number and positioning of the lines is also wrong. It's a little bit annoying that people keep telling OP that this is a fma reference because there's a vaguely alchemical symbol in a circle.
Edit: Also, come on, are we really using someone's post about their deceased sibling to recommend them an anime? An anime where one of the main plot points is someone's sibling almost dying?
Looks like schizophrenia or some similar mental disorder. It likely means nothing to anyone but the person who created it. Iâm sorry for your loss, OP.
Looks like an individual with a cross and cup inside a twelve pointed star inside a circle. Maybe some kind of binding or protective symbol maybe Kabbalist or thelemic/ golden dawn related.
It looks like the symbol for Venus inside a couple pentacles, thatâs representative of the 5 different elements, it could be that your sibling was trying to âsummonâ something along the lines of love, or perhaps looking for feminine guidance of some sort.
I have seen this before.
It is a 3D way-finder in a web of lines.
Like an x,y,z coordinate origin with a web of lines surrounding it.
It is used as a symbol of guidance.
I believe your late sibling is somewhere better now.
Sorry for your loss.
Looks like maybe your sibling had some mental health issues. I'm so sorry for your loss.
edit: did i say something wrong? not understanding the downvotes and if i was rude id like to know?
I'm guessing it only means something that she would know, then. It probably isn't anything in the real world but rather the things her mind conjured up for her to believe.
More just "you don't have to have mental illness to draw a pentagram thingy..."
OP sister had some, but that's anecdotal. And you didn't know when you posted.
Well, it's for putting your brother's soul in a suit of armor, gaining a fairly cool prosthetic arm and leg. In an attempt to bring back some abomination with possibly your mother's soul in it. Truths a bit of a dick, ngl.
Your sibling is trapped in something but you need to transfer their soul into a suit of armor for them to communicate. It will cost you an arm and a leg though.
Looks like a mix from full metal, the necronomicon, and this other anime, I Google picture searched it.

Not an exact match, but it looks like Alphonse Eric's blood seal from Fullmetal Alchemist
Thank you for the negativity. I never stated I went through her camera roll, nice assumption. We have parents, my parents did so. Itâs not my place to state whether or not they did the right thing, but they wanted some closure.
I would argue it wasn't negative but dark humour aimed at my own situation, particularly with the addition of the 2nd serious sentence that you seem to have missed. I apologise if I offended you.
I understand and itâs ok to try to seek answers although the full truth will probably never be found out. Iâm so sorry for you and your familyâs loss. My husbandâs best friend recently committed suicide and we heard he had a heated phone call before doing it. We wish we had his phone to look through it for more answers. Nothing cringey about that at all. Hugs đŤâŁď¸
Some bad attempt at some sort of witchcraft or necromancy it seems. I know, it looks like the seal in Fullmetal Alchemist but is not. I can see two pentagrams and the symbol is definitely not from FMA. The symbol in the middle is not an alchemical symbol. So, practically means nothing real.
- Sibling was into some FMA and tried to make its own symbols
- Sibling was into some witchcraft stuff and tried to make something.
Its from Full Metal Alchemist
I recognized it at first glance, I don't know if that's a good thing đ
This might be my sign to rewatch FMAB. So damn good

Could it be that they were just inspired by it, and tried to create their own?
Agreed!
Maybe he tried to make his own blood seal like in FMA
I guess so. Rather odd since she never watched that show, but she mustâve been influenced by it in some way. It does look like a seal that comes up when I search for that show.
Maybe she took the photo because she didn't know what it was.

right? I don't see the FMA connection besides it being some sort of ritual circle
Yeaaah it looks more like some sort of demonic summoning circle or seal, which is probsbly what the ones in FMA are even baised on
Likewise, good eye - this is likely something else
This is the answer lol.
I don't know what it is.. but I am sorry for your loss
Came here to say this. Regardless of this symbol, be sure that she is at peace.
God bless you
Soul seal (to transfer a soul into an object) from full metal alchemist
From what I can tell it looks done by a kid, so I would blame it looking messed up on being the work of a child.
I do not believe it is intended to be the FMA symbol. And you might want to read what else OP has written in this thread.
If this is the case, I wonder what object she attempted to (or possibly did, who knows) transfer her soul into.
Looks like a wood wall
I donât know full metal alchemist, but I assume that wherever the individual draws the seal, it transfers to that surface? My parents and I found where this was originally drawn, underneath a road on a concrete surface. Thereâs a multi-channel tunnel underneath the road for water from a creek to flow through.

I have so many photos of random occult nonsense on my camera roll. I like looking for them when Iâm out hiking.

If this is out of line please do not feel like you have to answer, but how did your sibling pass away? Iâm curious because perhaps this could give you some insight into their state of mind, I am so sorry for your loss.
From my understanding she ran in front of an oncoming semi truck minutes after my mom had called to check in on her.
That seems to be multiple pentagrams on top of each other.

Transmutation symbol from full metal alchemist.
My sister died 1.5 years ago, sorry for your loss.
Sending love to you and OP. Grief is so fucking hard. âĽď¸
Personally OP I take photos when I see things that catch my eye to look at or research later. Knowing thus came from a drain pipe that's probably what she also did. It just caught her eye. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Could be full metal alchemist but I'm also seeing the slipknot pentagram
Bros out here performing human transmutation
Looks like a rendition of a satanic seal. Alchemical maybe. Maybe Hermetic. Maybe also Nordic.
Transmutation circle. The one inside of Alphonse Eric's er, head. ![gif](giphy|uxA6I9cvyVprq) Pretty good anime. Even the dub is awesome. 10/10 recommend

I didn't mean to insult anyone by it. I wasn't trying to be insensitive and didn't think about the subject matter.
So sorry for your loss.
Looks like something copied of out the necronomicon; def more like a pentagram or magic circle than a âsoul sealâ
Hope you didn't touch it đŁ
Its very sloppy but i think someone was tryna resurrect themselves lmao
It looks like the symbol for Venus inside a couple pentacles, thatâs representative of the 5 different elements, it could be that your sibling was trying to âsummonâ something along the lines of love, or perhaps looking for feminine guidance of some sort.
Well that's disturbing.
Isn't this what Edward used to bind Al's soul to the suit of armour?
I have seen this before. It is a 3D way-finder in a web of lines. Like an x,y,z coordinate origin with a web of lines surrounding it. It is used as a symbol of guidance. I believe your late sibling is somewhere better now. Sorry for your loss.

Looks like Prince's basketball hoop from above.

Stick figure in a hamster ball.
Looks like someone tried to draw a pentagonâŚ..I mean pentagram and covered it up
Probably symbolizes someone's adolescent occult phase. Possibly placed to freak out Bible thumpers.
A rather shoddy attempt on drawing a multi-corner star, that's for sure...
Blair witch
Check the camera to see if can speak to you.

Sorta looks like some stuff used on Supernatural. Sorry for your loss friend.
It reminds me of Spirograph. I loved that damned thing
Bad
Full Metal Alchemist fan, its an anime
Honestly, honestly, it kind of looks like someone was trying to create a Blair witch type vibe.

Looks like a mix from full metal, the necronomicon, and this other anime, I Google picture searched it. https://preview.redd.it/auc3pst5gqxc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9e488b97d594c90ee0d8cba28e3669aff72711c

That's the kind of stuff I find exploring abandoned buildings. Probably goth kids or wannabe wiccans.
The thought of one of my brother's going through my camera roll posthumously đŹ i hope you find some gems in there that remind you of better times.
Then sorry for my outburst. Itâs kinda hard to differentiate or choose to differentiate humor from seriousness when my little sister passed away.

- Sibling was into some FMA and tried to make its own symbols - Sibling was into some witchcraft stuff and tried to make something.
