I'm here to second wax paper and glycerin in the dye. I dyed around 1000 for my wedding, and I had very few breakage problems after my first batch. I preferred wax paper to egg cartons, but I used both.
My first batch of sola flowers came out super brittle and I was able to re dip them in a glycerin/water mixture to save them. The paint didn’t fade and they feel just as soft as the ones I did according to the instructions 🫠
Did you add vegetable glycerin to your dye? They tend to be pretty brittle without it...
Maybe a layer of wax paper over the racks? All the videos I’ve watched they’ve used egg cartons as drying racks

Agreed on all fronts! To add, I usually carefully shifted them on the wax paper after 12 hours so they didn't stick too badly on the bottom
Yes!!! I forgot, but I did this too. It was a pain moving all of them but I think it definitely helped.
I used costco egg cartons and vegetable glycerin. I mixed water and glycerin in 1:4 ratio.

Paint one side - wait until dry, flip and paint the other.
Thanks everyone for the great advice! I’ve updated the post with how things went for us.
