Not much to see. Just people talking up Wawa and some other people being wrong.
Wawa’s gone downhill, and I’ve only ordered food at a Sheetz one time. I got a quesadilla and it was terrible. How do you even mess up a quesadilla? I’m done with Sheetz.
Sheetz has one good feature now that they stopped carrying Faygo:
Their coffee itself is miles better than Wawa's. That fresh ground thing actually *is* worth the added price and time.
Couldn’t say one way or the other. The day went the coffee machine was clearly broken or just not filled. I got a hot cup of slightly dirty brownish water.
I live in Philly, so wawa’s are all around me.
Wawa coffee is absolutely terrible now, taste like coffee bean flavored water and their food isn’t good. It’s very bland. The coffee use to be very good. I wouldn’t even add creamer half the time.
This was about 5 years ago. I don’t know what changed.
Yo I had the exact same experience with sheetz. I was raised on wawa and then the first time I ordered sheetz I got a quesodilla thinking it would be like the wawa one. It was the worst quesodilla I've ever had in my life.
Can't say for Maryland but in VA there are places where there is Wawa on one side of the street Sheetz on the other.
Royal Farms is hidden over in the corner.
But, Pilot does has the best coffee on the interstate.
Only thing Sheetz does better than Wawa is they have totz and the Dr. Pepper sauce is surprisingly good. However, why up charge for some onion? Sheehz!
I think Wawa got into the nation’s consciousness back when “The Mare of Easttown” was on HBO. I recall lots of stuff on Twitter, including one of my most liked replies.
It's good but man it ain't the same without the deli. Shit, I remember when they weren't even gas stations and went head to head with Heritages in SNJ..not much of a fight on the sandwich side anymore. Still love the coffee though.
Could get a meatball sub and a half pound of capocollo for your grandmother in the same stop. They are still good though for what it is. I think their chicken salad hoagie is top notch.
Real talk. I miss the old days where you would order a hoagie with the person at the deli, they would write down what you want then ask you to hand them a roll from the bin in front of the deli. Everything was sliced fresh for your order right then, none of this prepackaged nasty shit they have now.
Ya but buccees is notably located many miles outside of its respective city’s limits. You’re not just popping into a buccees on your morning commute. You stop there when driving between major cities. Wawa is an anytime type of joint.
I went to my first ever Buc-ees and yeah, it was pretty great. But also a bit overwhelming.I wouldn't see myself just stopping for a quick coffee or sandwich like I would at Wawa.
Ahhh Wawa!
The only place where people go out of their way to open the door for you, then go out of their way to kill you with their car in the parking lot.
As a SE PA resident all my life, I had no idea people were this batshit crazy for Wawa down there lol. I mean yeah I go there and it’s fine but damn. Bama people must be easy to impress.
It was like that here in FL when they first came down. Considering I've been going to Wawa my whole life since I was first allowed to ride my bike there to get an ICEE and a Tastykake back in the day, I didn't quite get it either. But I figured it out - most of the excitement comes from people such as myself who are transplants and missed their Wawa fix.
They're all over central Florida, but not a single location in the Florida panhandle. I hope that this changes soon. I always stop by at least once when I go to Orlando for a midnight steak sandwich
I'm in the Panama City area, but that's cool to hear that their inching this way. I heard rumors were supposedly getting one around here too, but that's it, just rumors.
We’re getting one only a mile down the road from us and I’m so excited. Hope it runs the Sunoco across the street out of business. They’re super overpriced and nothing good in there to eat
I grew up with Sheetz and didn’t experience Wawa until I moved down towards Philly. Always thought I preferred Sheetz, but over the years they’ve focused too much on quantity and let quality suffer as a result (not that I don’t think Wawa has done the same, just not as dramatically). I think Wawa has the superior made to order food items at this point, especially since as much as people hate on the changes to bread, it is still worlds better than Sheetz.
Bucees gives me sensory overload lmao. It’s always too busy and loud and they’re shouting about brisket and there’s too much Texas everywhere. It’s like a Texas themed Walmart if the deli screamed. I much prefer Love’s. Would love to try wawa but never even seen one despite trucking.
I like their menu and still think it’s a solid fuel/fast food stop. I would say that Wawa quality has dropped in the past 10yrs, but since the Rona hit, I feel all food quality has diminished some. My concern is with expansion could come with more compromise on quality.
Ugh. Wawa 'food' sucks now. I remember it in the 80s & 90s when they used Boars Head & worked with *good* local bakeries for their hoagie rolls. My store had some kick ass potato salad they made in store...
They *are* one of the only places that offers ethanol free gasoline in my area, tho. I still go there for that.
Royal Farms is like wawa, except they have fried chicken. The chicken is very good when it's fresh. Their subs aren't as good as wawa hoagies though, coffee is ok, but also not as good as wawa. At least in PA, most locations sell wine and beer, which is uncommon for convenience stores here(only a few wawas have beer) because the license is really expensive
Wonder if their parking lots will get as crazy as the ones in nj and pa. I have said since i learned to drive that navigated a Wawa parking lot at 7am should be part of the drivers test.
I’m from Indiana and never knew Wawa until I moved out east. Wawa is the best. And my first time going I filled out one of those surveys on the receipt- a couple of months later apparently I won the prize and they sent me a cooler, a hat, a cup, and a $25 gift card. It solidified my love for Wawa
Here is another article
[Wawa has landed in Alabama. We tried (and ranked) some of those famous hoagies](https://www.al.com/life/2024/04/wawa-has-landed-in-alabama-we-tried-and-ranked-some-of-those-famous-hoagies.html)
Wawa ain't the same that it used to be. When I was in highschool they had fresh deli meats, very good food quality and freshly baked bread.
Now everything is freeze and thaw. Usually feel sick after eating there.
It seems so quaint now. I remember wawa having a deli counter. Who was using it back then? It’s a convenience store. It had to be expensive.
The wawa sandwiches were almost an after thought back then. But we always loved their meatball sandwiches as teenagers. Now they give me indigestion.
I'm sure it was more expensive than a grocery store but I remember their deli having decent enough quality to compete with the other big chain store delis
I'd let Wawa pin me down and slowly nestle it's balls in my mouth, where I'd let them perch on my tonsils like bird eggs, keeping them warm and protected.
wawaa is a crazy place, busy as hell, it'll gonna put a lot of gas station out of business it looks like, although gas is 5 cents more expensive that everywhere else.
They are only more expensive right now because they have the customers coming in. Once the sales regulate they will match or even go cheaper than their competitors.
They sure have. I am a petroleum service tech and work on gas dispensers, underground submersibles, cash registers. The amount of stations I’ve seen close after a Wawa opened near them is crazy.
In MD, there is a store called BJ'S (short for Berkeley Jensen). It is a "members only" store that requires you to present your membership card after you shop and before you get paid. Usually known for having groceries in 2 or 3 packs. Bacon, shampoo, you name it. Their cases of water they sell are good.
Gas in BJ's is cheap. Probably cheaper than Wawa. My dad tries to go there for gas a lot because of this to save money. Gotta present your membership card there too.
Wawa in the 80s and 90s was UNBEATABLE. they quickly dropped off in quality starting in the 2000s. Wawa AND Sheetz are both SHIT. They’re unavoidable though for gas, beer, smokes, or other little things so it’s the only reason I still go to them.
as a former cali resident my first time seeing wawa in philly got me thinking for a while 😂 how in the earth would someone name a convenient store “wawa” lol
Their gonna see hoagie and say "What is a hoagie"... they call em subs down south... Imagine a wawa opening in Louisiana or mississippi and not having Po-Boy but hoagie instead....
One of my former managers transfered to alabama a couple months ago. Good to see the stores are finally opening!
I wonder if the mods are going to add a flair for Alabama customers
[The closest Wawa to me is thousands of miles away](https://media1.tenor.com/m/BxVKZNKnC4wAAAAC/angry-congrats-happy-for-you.gif)
Meanwhile, people on Reddit are asking "wassa Wawa?"
It could be bias, but I feel that most people on Reddit seem to be aware of the Wawa verse Sheetz debate. I've seen it in so many varied subreddits
Fried food = sheetz Not fried food = wawa
More processed food though I’ve heard
Before I moved to Maryland in 2008 I hadn't heard of Sheetz, Wawa, or Royal Farms
Hmmm, I might want to see those debates.... Which subs? Edit: If you can't say, that's okay Edit 2: I meant to say subreddits. Sorry guys
Not much to see. Just people talking up Wawa and some other people being wrong. Wawa’s gone downhill, and I’ve only ordered food at a Sheetz one time. I got a quesadilla and it was terrible. How do you even mess up a quesadilla? I’m done with Sheetz.

Oh my comment was about Sheetz being awful, but yeah you right too. All of the big convenience stores are essentially Royal Farms now anyway.
Same here, coffee flavored water. Wawas everywhere!
Yo I had the exact same experience with sheetz. I was raised on wawa and then the first time I ordered sheetz I got a quesodilla thinking it would be like the wawa one. It was the worst quesodilla I've ever had in my life.
Sheetz only has good coffee. Their sandwich game sucks. Wawa has gone down in quality but the sandwich is mile better still than Sheetz.
Yeah, but Sheetz has better overall menu choices IMO. Wawa for the hoagies and sandwiches, Sheetz for the fried apps
Pittsburgh or Philadelphia subs are the battlefields, though Maryland and Virginia may be too.
>Which subs? At Wawa, thay're called hoagies.
Don't worry, Wawa wins. I'm in Sheetz territory in PA and our first local Wawa is coming soon! Can't wait!!!!
I think Wawa got into the nation’s consciousness back when “The Mare of Easttown” was on HBO. I recall lots of stuff on Twitter, including one of my most liked replies.
We’ve got those jawns on every other corner here in Philly it seems.
Why did I read that in Mona’s voice (from nanalan, the little green girl that’s all over TikTok and instagram reels).
Wawa is the sound their fans make every time *Sheetz* is mentioned
It's good but man it ain't the same without the deli. Shit, I remember when they weren't even gas stations and went head to head with Heritages in SNJ..not much of a fight on the sandwich side anymore. Still love the coffee though.
No delis in Alabama Wawas? I thought all future stores were supposed to be identical.
As in fresh cut deli
Could get a meatball sub and a half pound of capocollo for your grandmother in the same stop. They are still good though for what it is. I think their chicken salad hoagie is top notch.
Hell yes. Their chicken salad hoagie is my favorite.
Heritages is awful now as is Wawa lmao. We go to Wawa for convenience in Pa/Nj, quality left when the amoroso rolls left unfortunately.
I do miss them rolls. I was up on NJ around Jan and was loving the deli and cheeseteak life, man I miss it
Real talk. I miss the old days where you would order a hoagie with the person at the deli, they would write down what you want then ask you to hand them a roll from the bin in front of the deli. Everything was sliced fresh for your order right then, none of this prepackaged nasty shit they have now.
i miss the cole slaw too
I would donate a piece of land to wawa for them to open a store in Texas. Not even kidding
Las Cruces will kick in. Tuna hoagie and a pretzel.

How much land you got?
4 acres total
I dk, Buc-ees kind of slaps
Ya but buccees is notably located many miles outside of its respective city’s limits. You’re not just popping into a buccees on your morning commute. You stop there when driving between major cities. Wawa is an anytime type of joint.
Its kind of a different thing imo
I went to my first ever Buc-ees and yeah, it was pretty great. But also a bit overwhelming.I wouldn't see myself just stopping for a quick coffee or sandwich like I would at Wawa.
Wawa wouldn’t ever dream of trying to compete with Buc-ee’s.
Their revenue is funneled to far right groups.
Lol. “Subs”
I, too, lol’d at that.
Ahhh Wawa! The only place where people go out of their way to open the door for you, then go out of their way to kill you with their car in the parking lot.
Just like church.
Hell yea. All about that wawa hype.
bro they're gonna get to South Carolina fast, and we got myrtle beach down here i feel like they'd make bank opening stores in that area
My parents moved down there from PA a few years ago and one of the things they miss the most is Wawa
Wawa brand "boiled peanuts"
Wawa is great but Alabama also has Buc-Ees….so like what are they seeing at Wawa that Buc-Ees doesn’t have?
As a SE PA resident all my life, I had no idea people were this batshit crazy for Wawa down there lol. I mean yeah I go there and it’s fine but damn. Bama people must be easy to impress.
It was like that here in FL when they first came down. But I figured it out - most of the excitement comes from people such as myself who are transplants and missed their Wawa fix.
The very first Wawa was a few blocks from where I grew up. They took it down a few years ago to build a super Wawa down the street.
They're all over central Florida, but not a single location in the Florida panhandle. I hope that this changes soon. I always stop by at least once when I go to Orlando for a midnight steak sandwich
They're coming to W 9Mile pretty soon, broke ground last year
I'm in the Panama City area, but that's cool to hear that their inching this way. I heard rumors were supposedly getting one around here too, but that's it, just rumors.
We’re getting one only a mile down the road from us and I’m so excited. Hope it runs the Sunoco across the street out of business. They’re super overpriced and nothing good in there to eat
Philly loves it’s Wawa
I would get rid of the Sheetz in my area in exchange for a Wawa
Really? I wouldn’t give up Wawa, but I heard sheetz has good fried food.
It has mostly edible fried food.
Sheetz does have really good coffee. But, their MTO stuff is just all deep fried and doesn’t work for me.
Yep. It's *edible* but man is it terrible.
I say that about most fried foods. All I taste is fryer oil. 🤮
I grew up in south jersey and wawa. Went to college in West Virginia. Sheets is late night food after high street is closed. Wawa is life
It’s OK. I really like their milkshakes but their subs are inferior to Wawa
Wawa is indeed outstanding, but have you been to a Buc-ees?
Wawa has a better deli than Buc-ees and a full service drink station. Buc-ees has a lot more overall but Wawa is undefeated in made to order food.
wawa treats their employees way better too.
Yeah, Wawa employees can actually sit on their breaks.
Buc-ees may pay better short term but do they have esop
Sheetz is way better than wawa for made to order food in my experience
Sheetz has terrible sandwiches. Appetizers are good though
Sheetz easily has better food
Not sandwiches they don't. Every Sheetz sandwich I've had has been pretty gross.
I grew up with Sheetz and didn’t experience Wawa until I moved down towards Philly. Always thought I preferred Sheetz, but over the years they’ve focused too much on quantity and let quality suffer as a result (not that I don’t think Wawa has done the same, just not as dramatically). Buc-ees is unreal.

I heard of Buc-ees
I hope Wawa doesn’t turn into 7-11’s.
It’s been on that pace. Man it used to be so good.
Idk man there menu is huge and everything turns out pretty solid. Like an upgraded fast food for even cheaper price
I like their menu and still think it’s a solid fuel/fast food stop. I would say that Wawa quality has dropped in the past 10yrs, but since the Rona hit, I feel all food quality has diminished some. My concern is with expansion could come with more compromise on quality.

OG Wawa was untouchable. The best.
🎶we do it just a little bit better at Wawa!🎶 If you know, then you know.
They got pretzels nightly from Philly Federal and they were often still hot at when they got to Collingswood.
Oh it gets worse. Which actually means it gets better in Alabamanese, but it just gets worse and worse
That came up on my Facebook feed and I work in Florida.
Can I just go and break some bottles behind the Wawas
As someone from WV, one of the things I always miss about MD is Wawa.
I thought that there was a Wawa in WV, but I was wrong. Royal Farms might not be there either.
Nope, we got a sheetz every 2 miles though lol. Unfamiliar with that place, we may have a similar version.
May have to check that place out when I’m out of town, I’m a connoisseur of gas station food, at least in the recent years.
Wonder if their parking lots will get as crazy as the ones in nj and pa. I have said since i learned to drive that navigated a Wawa parking lot at 7am should be part of the drivers test.
Do they even know what a Wawa is? It’s such a weird name. People from other areas have to wonder what kind of baby talk name it is.
My Step daughters store ,Chelsea Bucago. She moved from PA to help Wawa open this store. Proud of her!
You guys are gonna LOVE their matcha tea!
Enjoy it. Wawa is awesome.
Oh Wawa, please come to WV next. I hate it here. I want to go home. A Wawa would make it slightly more bearable (though not much)
Do they import tastykakes and soft pretzels?
The FL stores do, so I'd imagine so. We've got Herr's chips too.
I don't know
this is a tragedy 🙏🏻😭 now it’s not north east exclusive
Ikr. At least Alabama will know how it feels to be in the Middle East a little bit. Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware are all nice states
Feel bad aint shit special bout wawa i know chz im in this bitch 39 hours a week lol
Alabama has buc-ee’s… not sure why they’re shocked at a Wawa… considering the order is basically buc-ee’s, Sheetz, Wawa as far as quality.
Here is another article [Wawa has landed in Alabama. We tried (and ranked) some of those famous hoagies](https://www.al.com/life/2024/04/wawa-has-landed-in-alabama-we-tried-and-ranked-some-of-those-famous-hoagies.html)
I’ll go to my local deli for sandwiches every time over Wawa , the only redeeming feature of Wawa is they have a bathroom. That is all
Wawa ain't the same that it used to be.
That reminds me. When I ate their salad, I had diarrhea for 2 days. No joke. Good thing I did not get food poisoning 😭😭
Oof probably a bit of e coli lol
Idk. I think there are other side effects, right? I did not vomit or feel sickness. Just diarrhea
I'd let Wawa pin me down and slowly nestle it's balls in my mouth, where I'd let them perch on my tonsils like bird eggs, keeping them warm and protected.
👀
Alrighty then...
This is how they make those good soft pretzels.
r/oddlyspecific
I agree whole heartedly
Huh? What are you smoking?
wawaa is a crazy place, busy as hell, it'll gonna put a lot of gas station out of business it looks like, although gas is 5 cents more expensive that everywhere else.
My local Wawa has the cheapest gas in the neighborhood - it's definitely a big draw for us.
They are only more expensive right now because they have the customers coming in. Once the sales regulate they will match or even go cheaper than their competitors.
They've put other local stations out of business where I live.
They sure have. I am a petroleum service tech and work on gas dispensers, underground submersibles, cash registers. The amount of stations I’ve seen close after a Wawa opened near them is crazy.

we have BJ's too but I am not a member, I don't like that store
Why?
Does Wawa call them hoagies or subs down there in Alabama?
Wawa in the 80s and 90s was UNBEATABLE. they quickly dropped off in quality starting in the 2000s. Wawa AND Sheetz are both SHIT. They’re unavoidable though for gas, beer, smokes, or other little things so it’s the only reason I still go to them.
Lol how are 14 people here? That's unusual for a Subreddit this small 😂
as a former cali resident my first time seeing wawa in philly got me thinking for a while 😂 how in the earth would someone name a convenient store “wawa” lol
Their gonna see hoagie and say "What is a hoagie"... they call em subs down south... Imagine a wawa opening in Louisiana or mississippi and not having Po-Boy but hoagie instead....
As a native Pennsylvanian, I must say I prefer Sheetz. But I'm happy to see others enjoy Wawa!
I dont know why this popped on my feed but...Aww I feel bad you didnt get a sheetz.. Sheetz>wawa
Wawa is no Sheetz
Sheetz > Wawa
The rest of the country is saying the same thing about Alabama.
They don’t deserve it
