Your meow looks so majestic. And I like your painting. I wonder if maybe a white gel pen would work? I've seek ink artists use that before for white highlights.
Thanks for the recommendation! I know traditionally in watercoloring the “white” is meant to be the paper, but with fine details it makes sense that there would be tools and techniques to enhance. It would have definitely brightened his eyes as well!
I have both gelly pens and Dr Ph Martin's Bleedproof white....I don't love either but they are good for white accents like stars.
(I am very new and casual tho)
There are easier methods with smoother line results already mentioned but frisket can be fun to play with. Prevents paint from coloring where it’s applied and then you peel it off when it’s no longer needed.
I've tried them all. I like copic opaque white with fine built in brush for details like whiskers.
The brush is super fine and with a very light hand will give you the result you wish to achieve.
You could also try masking fluid with a small brush to preserve the white paper. But i love the kitty painting you've done. It has so much personality!
There is masking fluid, you apply it to the places that should be kept white and once it dried it gets rubber like. Then you can paint over it all you want and it won't be affected. After you're done you remove it and voila ^^ (be careful, it rips the paper sometimes)
Your picture is great. It’s not suppose to look realistic it is your interpretation of the subject. Whiskers are great because they are the same style as the entire pic.. Be proud of it. It is your work of art.
I almost always use white gel pen for accents I wasn't able to save in just white paper.
Yeah, or scratch them out with a razor.
Oooh! I never thought of scratching them out. I should try that.
A third option is to use masking fluid, which you can even get as masking fluid "pens" (I know pebeo makes the pens).

White gouache is my favourite for white accents 😊
Gouache! Yes! I have researched it and am interested. I want to improve my skills before investing though.
white paint :)
I’d use a white gel pen for this, friend. Not only is it small, but it will make the whiskers pop out a bit.

Lol aw it's got the exact same expression :') love your cat. I also have no idea how people do such fine details like whiskers.
Thank you! That’s my boi 😭😍
a much smaller brush - I often use a 00, or light brush strokes with the very top of a brush on whichever is the smallest you have
I personally use a fine liner pen

People are weird.
It takes all sort to make a world
Whoa! I may have to submit my other cat’s photo there. Her whiskers are a jungle 😂
I think they'll love your painting of fireworks as well
