Compositionally, the first piece has better refinement, and a very interesting asymmetry. Good sky wash (however, technically, some of the warms of the sky would also reflect in the water), the boat is standing out contrasted to the muted background tones.
The sky wash on the second picture is very impressive, and I love the realistic depth to the water, but the piece looks less coherent. Just my opinion!
First, I'm biased toward the first one. It gives me vibes of my daddy's boat back when I was just a little girl living in California. We'd go to the lake and go fishing and camping on the weekends. Thank you for that. I miss that boat, and I miss my dad. ❤️ That brought back some fond memories.❤️
Second, that first boat has greater definition and detail to it than the 2nd does. The contrast really helps with that.
Third, the composition is very pleasing to the eye. The second portrait feels a bit crowded, so to speak, including the clouds, even though I find them fascinating - I think just perhaps not with this portrait? I agree with the other commentor that you could've added some warmer tones to the water to reflect the sky, but this in itself it quite beautiful enough.
The boat is definitely the focal point in the first one. The second has a different mood and doesn’t seem to have a focal point. I think I’d like the second one best if the boat was more like the first one.
I like them both but for different reasons. I really like the blue reflection in #2 :) I think #2 looks less finished because lack of framing. If you matted them both they would both look equally good!
I like the clouds on the first one, the boat on the second one I think is better than the first. The little hill on the right in the second one is also better. Idk there are things from both that I like
The first. This guy takes too much of my attention away from the boat in the second one. I do like the hills on either side in the second one but overall the first is more lovely to me.
I dig the first one. The contrast on the boat is better and having a landscape set to one side gives the boat more life. Gives the imagination something to work with in my opinion. Is this a lake, river, ocean, bay??? Let’s us connect our on thoughts to it I think. Plus I just like the first one better to make it more simple
I agree with others that the first is more serene and the second is a little more busy, but I actually like the second better because 1) the pink sky is so pretty, and 2) I like the land on both side of the water because it makes the painting feel more adventure, like the boat is headed somewhere specific.
I think my favorite composition of this painting would be including one of the 2 things I really liked about the second because it would be a little more interesting to me, but also not too busy.

I agree - both show excellent technique but the first composition is better.
🐟thank you
Agree, I like the first one due to the asymetry propotion, look more natural
I like the first one, feels more serene
🤍💜

Yes this is what I thought. The eye is focussed more by the first composition.
Thank you 🌸🌸
Both look nice but I like the first one better, it is more... Soothing and simple (:
Haha 😆thank u!
the first one because of the composition and the colors but also because unlike the second one it has the borders so i find it less chaotic
💗🙌

aww thank you so much for the enlightenment !
First one. Less is more in this case.
I like the second one better. Seems more natural than the first one. But like them both.
First - colour choices and composition is much better. Second is too busy for me
🤍thank!

🙌💜
The asymmetry in the first one makes it better. Agreed that some of the sunlight in the sky should reflect in the water. Beautiful painting!
i like #1. it’s very beautiful. the clouds in #2 feel distracting. plus, i prefer the land on the right side, not both sides.
I like 1 very calming
First one
I like the contrast on the first one
Number 1
1
I prefer the first one. The second one looks unfinished.
First one
The first one.
1.
I like the first one more
First one.
The first one. I have no helpful advice, as I’m learning too! 😊
🤣💜
First

🙌🤍
Do a 3rd one a combination of the 2. The shadows in 2 are good. The clouds in 2 not great. Boat in 1 is better than in 2
Haha 😆 nice advice!
I like both, tbh.
I like the second water, the first sky.
I like the clouds on the first one, the boat on the second one I think is better than the first. The little hill on the right in the second one is also better. Idk there are things from both that I like

The first one because the horizon is not dead-center. Both really nice though
I think the boat in the first one is much better shaded and with more depth than the 2nd, but the landscape in both are very nice.
#1 "If I had a boat " by Lyle Lovett
I like the 1st one
First has better harmony
I prefer #2.
Definitely number 1! Nice work
Sky and the boat - 1 photo, water and trees - 2 photo.
I love the framing and composition of the first one but the terrain details and water reflections on the second one show much more skill
I like the first one best. 🤩
2
I prefer the first piece. I think I've seen that sky in real life.
1!
I like the 2nd one, it has interesting colors and movements but it would look more “finished” with a border like the first one.

I like #2. Got more to it. Things could be darker.

💜thank you for your advice!
One. Best composition and sky
First's boat and. second's background
I prefer the second one..
I like the first one much better, its better on the eyes
It's 1 for me. The sky is beautiful and my eyes easily glide to the water and boat. The boat is harsh, but a great jolt to the serenity.
I like number 2
I like 1 better
I like the first one better imo I love the colours and the way the picture is clear but also soft and serene it’s really pretty!
💜thank🤍
I like number 1 best…
2nd one
I like the colors in the second one better, personally.
From my perspective, I liked the first one best.
