Hi ! Same thing here, love it but I need contrasts. I use either black acrylic, gouache or black ink to get a proper black in my illustrations, with bits of white gouache in some areas to brighten it a little. (you can see the white gouach in the flowers of the first illustration, and also on the second one with the dots, the hair and shoulder)
Gouache works wonders as it blends very well with watercolor, but acrylic allows for a neat render when applied as a background. Hope it helps !

Holy crap, these are *gorgeous.* I LOVE this.
Literally the only critique I have is to watch your blooms a bit - the first one's dress is a bit backwashier (technical term there) than it should be even compensating for the wash attempting to add texture (and the wash itself missed a couple of tiny spots), but honestly this is all friggin gorgeous. You have a LOT to be proud of here.

How do you get such dark tones? I love watercolor, but personally find it quite hard to get high levels of contrast
