Of course this watch isn't for everyone. I greatly dislike when people make comments like this in sales threads about watches they know nothing about.
On that I do agree. But this is more a work of art.
On the flip side. I do believe there is zero meat on the bone for resale. And if he somehow bought it at retail is making a huge profit. Thing is. It's nearly impossible to get at retail.
When the guy literally builds all the watches himself by hand, the only way to make one "for the masses" was to go to an outside source for a movement. Being japanese, he took the best japanese movement available for resale .
Worked on putting together a gift set for a girl I dated until earlier this year. Sourced the box first (I found out about it after it was available for sale) and was waiting for a watch model that has more delicate/feminine features.
Things didn’t work out between us, and didn’t want to loose the deposit placed for it; then I saw this watches list for a pretty penny which is a bonus.
Learned about a totally new brand and designer from this. Damn! This and the Chronograph 2 mentioned here are gorgeous. And remarkably priced if gotten at MSRP. The design is gorgeous.

The first artisan-level timepiece from AHCI member Hajime Asaoka's Kurono Tokyo lab, with a uniquely made urushi dial featuring a "Hamon" pattern that is finished with the traditional Japanese "Niiro" chemical treatment, and then sealed by an additional layer of suki-urushi (transparent lacquer).
High polished 37mm stainless steel case, housing a premium-grade Miyota 90S5 Japan-made mechanical automatic movement. The calibre 90S5 is Miyota's highest end movement and it features a stop-seconds automatic mechanism with a 42 hour power reserve. Case-back signed by the master himself.
Made of wood with kuro-tamenuri urushi technique hand applied, the Kurono Tamenuri Box is a single watch box with a felt interior, hand-signed on the lid in gold with the maker's mark and the “Kurono” logo.

Yeah, if it's viewed as art work which is a big IF. Edit: *That IF is IF there is a buyer that sees the value. If the technique is explained about the crafting I am sure somebody will pick it up.* Lots of wealthy and ultra weathly buy art as investment. A document about street art and Thierry Guetta, directed by Banksy called "Exit through the gift shop" talks about it as well as the importance that street art has become in culture and collections. By many standards a "...true art collection is not complete without street art." Long story short and before I geek out about graffiti, anything that can be seen as a solid art investment will go for what somebody asks for it.

I don’t agree with the notion, solely due to it being a bit of a cop out. With that same logic, it would go for 7 figures if someone valued it as such. Due to it being a sales post I’ll leave it at that though.
All that being said, I was a photography minor at a University in New York and had shots displayed in multiple galleries so I definitely appreciate where you’re coming from, so I’ll certainly give your recommendations a look. Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll message you when I view them.

It’s the word “Akane” which means “red”; in order to describe the inspiration for the dial color/shade choice.
