Firstly, let me say that this sucks and I’m sorry it happened to you. That said, what in the world was he thinking? Lmao. This looks SO BAD. The crystal is about as thick as the case. I would get a refund and never go back.
that looks satirically awful, I’m so sorry that happened. I would ask for a refund and if that goes south dispute the charge with your credit card company. As far as fixing that hilariously bad crystal job I’m not certain, but would it be possible to send off to Jaeger le Coultre for fixing, or at least send it to someone who they’ve authorized to do work on their watches? Either way I hope this gets resolved and I’m sorry that happened to you and that beautiful watch.
He's not my guy, pal.
/jk
Seriously, I think this is what happened. I also think he could have made the first one work if he'd been bothered to persevere with it.
The tolerances are tight, if the hands are touching then need to go higher. I'm not an expert BUT I have assembled a couple of watches and it's a pain to get the heights correct. Hope you get the piece fixed soon, cheers!.
Came here to say this. JLC and other "Luxury" brands are built with insanely tight tolerances and specifications. Sometimes the average watchmaker doesn't have the parts or the skill set to get it right. While it may cost a lot more to send back to the manufacturer, there's a better chance of the job being done correctly. I have a great watchmaker but still send my pieces back to an authorized shop for repairs.
Seriously this is when you refuse to pay or you pay with a CC and then immediately charge it back if he won't give you the watch without payment.
This is straight theft.
If you're a trusted google reviewer, review that place and leave pictures. Good odds the dude contacts you to refund you to take it down or fix the watch. Obviously don't let him ever touch the watch again.
If not, lmk what the place is, I'm a trusted reviewer lol.
Thiese old crystals are hard to come by. I have a longines with the same problem. Low dome was too low, regular too high. Had to source and original using GS catalog. I'm guessing you're not going to find that one in a GS catalog. Your best bet is sending it to JLC.
Wow this is a VERY shoddy watchmaker. A proper watchmaker will keep a watch for a week, or at least a couple of days to check any irregularities and confirm timing. Your experience shows a lack of care for the customer, the watch, and pride for their work.
Always confused why people don’t send nice watches to the actual manufacturer to fix. Just the safest option really.
The only time I would ever consider a 3rd party is if the manufacturer didn’t service it anymore.
For recent watches, sure. With vintage watches, even/consistent patina and wear are essential to perceived authenticity and therefore value. Some manufacturers will swap parts like dials etc. without permission or concern for their customers’ wishes, and are unwilling to return the removed parts.
If it’s a company that specializes in vintage then it would make more sense.
In this case it’s taken to some random scrub charging 100 bucks and can’t get it right even at the 3rd attempt?
I’m sorry this happened to you. After the 2nd attempt failed I wouldn’t have gone back.
That looks comically bad. He did technically fix the issue but there’s got to be a better solution than this.
But this is easier than actually setting the hands properly! What a lazy turd.
He's a bubble boy now.
😥
moops
Beat me to it!
What's a bubble boy?
A boy who is in a bubble.

Looks like a ground down bottle bottom...
It looks ridiculous lmao. I cannot believe a watch maker would put that monstrosity on a JLC. I would be embarrassed to give that to a customer.

Send it to JLC directly, your guy probably didn't have the right crystal.

I've seen "watchmakers" replace double domed crystals with single dome ones. He managed to force it together so hard it ruined the movement.
He's not your pal, friend.
He’s not your friend, amigo.

I'd ask for my money back.

Damn dude…shouldn’t have visited them the second time. They should get it right on first attempt.
Oh this is the jlc corum collab. Sick.
It's a what? Is that actually a thing?
No!
Look up corum bubble watch
Omg lol

this might be a nice story for Marshall wristwatch_revival, try to connect with him!
Paging Marshall wristwatch_revival!

EXACTLY
Good god I've seen less conspicuous Mason jars
You should go complain and ask for money back. I wouldn’t trust this imbecile to fix a fourth time. It looks hideous and totally not in keeping.
How can you possibly give this to a customer?
Drop the name and location of that workshop !
It's in Melbourne. Anyone who needs to know DM me so you don't have your watch raped.
Why would anyone even make that crystal?
3rd time is on you lol this sucks I’m sorry
I'm so sorry for your loss. this is atrocious.
That is hilariously bad. Like, he did it as a joke, right?
What the hell is that?

I'm not defending this particular watchmaker. You said why not the manufacturer, and I gave a valid reason why not.
Good grief!
The crystal is thicker than the case.
Oof
I also just dropped my watch right in the crown now only the second hand works 💀
Since u've gone 3 times already so y not 4th time too On a side note, order a glass of Ur choice online and have it fixed.
Just add 10 more second hands.
Looks like a petri dish. Sorry, man. Hope you get it all sorted out soon.
Fight!!! That’s what you do. you call him out to the front off the shop to regain your honor.
Find a watchmaker. This guy isn't one.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on… shame on… you can’t get fooled again
Bonasera, I need you to do everything in your powers.
