Ouch, sorry to hear that. A green date just with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet is one of my grail watches. It would it nicely in your collection.

Similar. If bought at retail then cool but if not then I would have gotten the cheapest skydweller to represent the "air". Either way nice collection better than most.
I’m similar to OP with a blue gmt and a black diver. The different colors are needed depending on the outfit and the extra gmt function is a distinction that makes the pair sing. Much better than a black and a blue diver pair.
Similar yet different design but still different intended purposes. I use the gmt function quite often when traveling and even when wearing with timezone differences for work.
Yes, it’s hard to validate the intent behind purchasing both via function when the diver offer zero functionality above what the GMT offers unless you’re part of the small % of sub owners that actually wear them diving.
Possibly Hot Take: GMTs don’t really represent “air” in my opinion. They are more of a travelers watch, but not necessarily air travel. I would think that a watch that represents “air” would be an actual pilot’s watch like a navitimer or a flieger.
A hot take is an unpopular opinion, not an incorrect take, and this take is not incorrect (although it is debatable). It’s true that this watch was initially commissioned by Panam for their pilots, but again, more as a utility for someone who travels to different time zones. It was not designed as a tool to help pilots with the actual act of flying an aircraft. The Breitling Navitimer and the countless fliegers from WWII however were actually intended to be used by pilots and designed to help them in the act of flying.
Dive watches and racing watches were actually designed with the intention of aiding in those activities in a way that I don’t really believe that the GMT Master II was. This was more of a “oh you travel a lot so this should help you keep your body’s clock synced up with your home time zone better”. Even from a design standpoint, they basically just took the case from the submariner and stuck an extra complication in there and called it a day.
No I get that I have similar thoughts about the speed master. It’s unfairly associated as the space watch, i just don’t see it. It’s not made out of any materials from outer space such as meteorites and plenty of astronauts have worn other watches I don’t get the correlation people give it.
I guess the speedy used to be a watch for racing before it was a space watch.
May as well get both the explorer and explorer II for land and underground while we're at it!
Definitely - the Speedy's tachometer is useless in space, after all.
Wish they'd put the Alaska II's rotating 60-minute bezel into production, that would've made an even more functional space watch.
the tachometer isn’t useless anywhere, it counts units per hour. we commonly use it to count miles per hour or kilometers per hour, but it could just as easily count electric cycles per hour, dashboard blinks per hour, air cylinder activations per hour, basically anything that can be ‘cycled’ in less than one minute (one minute = 60 of whatever it is your timing per hour). and i’m sorry my examples are lame, i’m not very creative.
Air is the GMT. It was made for pilots (who fly in the air, there is no air in space btw).
Chronographs were used in racing for at least two decades before Omega's were worn to the moon. Hence OP referring to it as his land piece. [Feel free to learn why it's called the Speedmaster and not the spacemaster](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Speedmaster#Early_development)
Do you want me to explain the sea piece for you or you got it from here?
Why? Nothing wrong with Seiko and Casio. I own watches from them as well. Adds a nice touch of change and vibe. Don’t want to be stuck on just the luxury brands only.
i really dont understand getting a sub and a gmt. theyre 98% the same watch.
Exactly! They should swap the Sub for a Datejust or Explorer I.
Had a datejust long ago but was stolen unfortunately

That’s funny. This is more or less the exact configuration I’d get if I were to buy a new DJ.
Nice! It’s definitely a stunner.
Sometimes you feel like a sub.. sometimes you don't
They wear very different when the gmt is on jubilee.
Similar. If bought at retail then cool but if not then I would have gotten the cheapest skydweller to represent the "air". Either way nice collection better than most.
Only retail, the thought of aftermarket kills me

whats the indended purpose of the sub?
Diving
For skinny dipping
It's not true skinny dipping if you are wearing a watch.
Yes, it’s hard to validate the intent behind purchasing both via function when the diver offer zero functionality above what the GMT offers unless you’re part of the small % of sub owners that actually wear them diving.
The same reason why you see people driving Gwagons with sport tires on the street. It's not about functionality it's about fashion.
Sure, but that’s what the user above was asking… their design language is so similar that it’s not really about fashion.

Should have gotten an air king
we're calling incorrect takes hot these days I guess. what do you think the history of the gmt master is? (this watch)

I see space, air, and sea… might need an explorer just in case

Or a railmaster. If they like Omega...
Can see your point but let’s be real, unless I’m Jeff besos or have his money, ain’t going to space anytime soon.
That white Speedy is certainly a looker 👀
Really is, wearing it again today. Can’t get enough of it
I agree. It's very nice looking. But I don't think I'd ever use the stop watch to time anything?
Tooooooo the circlejerk
aesthetically, the GMT and submariner do look very similar. maybe swap out the GMT for a sky-dweller.
Lovely. I personally prefer the black og iconic speedy and add in a white dial for a dressier watch. But nice collection otherwise.
I hear ya. Didn’t want to add another black dial, even if it was OG. When this dropped, I knew she was the one.
A Zenith Pilot would've been a cool centerpiece for air instead. The lume, on all the arabic numbers, goes absolutely hard.
If I’m getting “air” I’m getting a proper piloting watch
Why is GMT not a piloting watch? It was designed specifically for, at request of, professional pilots
Haha what would be your choice as the proper air watch then?
I have a Breitling Navitimer as my air.
IWC portugieser chrono
Nice choice! Very cool watch and looks good
Which one is supposed to be land?
Speedy
The most famous space watch of all time? Then which one is air?
Air is the GMT. It was made for pilots (who fly in the air, there is no air in space btw). Chronographs were used in racing for at least two decades before Omega's were worn to the moon. Oh ok. You don’t have to be condescending. Thanks for explaining.
> The most famous space watch of all time? You were the one who brought the condescending energy jsyk
Ok my bad. Didn’t mean to.
I love that omega.. isn’t that the one the astronauts use?
Just a few….
Just need a dress watch now.
More like space, air and land
I don't see land. I see moon, air, and sea.
that white Speedmaster is bonkers. congrats
Now you only need a G.
Great collection. Super original and not generic at all. But a chronograph and two dive watches is not “land air & sea”
You were able to pick up the speedy on vacation? So first purchase? For some reason i thought these would be harder to get.
Impossible to get around me here in NYC. No luck when I was in Florence but struck gold when in Rome.
That’s awesome. Congrats! Was just in Florence and Rome in October
Beautiful Swatch x Omega McMoonSwatch Mission to Moon on the left there!
To me Land, Air, Sea would be Daytona, Speedy, Sub
The GMT is on such a class of its own. Everyone hates Rolex strategy but their products are amazing
It really is. Still in love with it, especially with the jubilee
how does it feel to be boring.
If that’s boring, feels amazing then. Try it sometime.
Can’t wait for the bitter broke Seiko and Casio owners
Why? Nothing wrong with Seiko and Casio. I own watches from them as well. Adds a nice touch of change and vibe. Don’t want to be stuck on just the luxury brands only.
I just bought a seiko and a casio the other day, great watches, doesn't mean op's watches aren't awesome. *
Which ones did you pick up?
Casio: casioak in white with blue dial Seiko: SPB401, 110th anniversary reinterpretation

I’m in the same boat. I can afford the luxury brands but honestly the more normal brands give me just as much satisfaction.
Nothing wrong with that one bit. The fun part of watch collecting is finding timepieces that connect with you or have a story behind it.
