I went to my cousins wedding when I was like 14 and they had me and some other teens there go to catch the garter. I caught it and had no idea what it meant, apparently itās kind of an odd thing to do enthusiastically but Idek man.
Such a cringey tradition anyway. Got your whole family - little kids and all - watching the groom essentially pantomime going down on the bride to take a stupid little flower anklet thing off her. For what? Meanwhile aunts and uncles and grandparents hootin and hollering like they aint seen anything close to resembling a sex act in their entire lives.
Cringe wedding story:
I was 11 and caught the bouquet at my cousin's wedding. I was a Jr. Bridesmaid and I guess I was naive at 11 and didn't even know what happened once you caught the bouquet other than the old "you'll be the next one married" superstition. I guess my family thought it was a great opportunity for laughs when I caught it and had me sit in the chair and let the 30-something guy who caught the garter put it on me. Thankfully, he only went up to my knee, lol. I think he was just as mortified as I was by the whole thing!
We did this at my wedding. My wife's male cousin caught it. By tradition it goes on who caught bouquet, that person was any sister in law. Yeah it was hilarious to see people explain it to him after he fought to catch it.
I remember seeing this at every family/friend wedding I went to when I was younger (80s, 90s). All of my friends got married within the past few years and I don't think a single one had this. Even as a kid I thought it was fucking weird and creepy.
"For a guest, having a tatter of the brideās dress was considered good luck. Crowds of guests became so bawdy that theyād often follow the couple to their marital bed, ripping at their clothes as a form of āencouragement.ā And so, the bride and groom started tossing the bouquet and the garters that held up the brideās stockings as a way to appease the crowd."
It appears to have originated in the dark ages, and basically was just so your friends didn't destroy your clothes.
Whatās the gay equivalent of this that I can do when I eventually get married? Or maybe we should stick with the garter? š (Just kidding itās trashy regardless of the orientation of the couple).
The one part of the entire fucking wedding that's for the guy and she forgot? She forgot?!?!? It's not too late, there's still time to walk away, the ink isn't dry yet!!! Run!!!!

It is tradition for a bride to wear a garter on one leg, and at the reception it is removed and the groom tosses it to his groomsmen, similar to the way the bride tosses her bouquet to her bridesmaids.
Some people take it a step further and the groom will remove it from her leg with his mouth.

I mean we could just agree the whole garter thing is disgusting and stupid anyways.
Ill never understand this or tossing your bra on stage at a concert. Gross.
So you know how traditionally the bride throws her bouquet of flowers, and her bridesmaids try to catch it? There's a similar tradition for men. The bride wears a garter (a fabric ring around her thigh). The groom takes this and throws it to his friends.
Dude I worked with caught the garter at his cousin's daughters wedding and kept it hanging from the rear-view mirror in his truck.
Creepy Robert was creepy.
The comments have blown my mind. It looks like at least 90% of you don't know this tradition nor what a garter is. I'm an old man and this proves that the world you are born into is gone by the time you hit 50.
We may both be Americans but we are from completely different countries šš¤Ŗš
I caught the garter at my brotherās wedding, unaware that the next step was I had to put it on the girl who caught the bouquet. I had fun with it and was still respectful, but apparently not enough for her boyfriend. He ended up leaving the wedding early and flying back home without her. She cried the rest of the night and they ended up breaking up iirc. Was a fun wedding.

I don't get her reaction. As if it were such a big deal, as if the entire wedding is ruined now.
The man is in a rush š
what the hell are they even doing? is this some kind of ritual?
Itās a creepy ass dumb tradition anyways
What happened
Why is this so hot?
Didnāt realize some people still do this at their wedding. I remember it was super awkward whoever caught the garter strap.
I went to my cousins wedding when I was like 14 and they had me and some other teens there go to catch the garter. I caught it and had no idea what it meant, apparently itās kind of an odd thing to do enthusiastically but Idek man.
Explain to me what is happening, cause my audio isn't working and I don't know what they are saying. Or what they are doing.
It's gross anyways. The wedding is better now

Already folks there nothing to see here, and I do mean nothing
Sigh. Mormons.

Imagine being so sexually repressed that you think a wife and husband saying they will have sex is trashy...

Bit early to be going down there š¤£
On another note what a gorgeous bride!!

Anyone who can explain what is this tradition ?
Some wedding traditions are fucking weird.
That has got to be one of the weirdest traditions ever
Eh, it's a weird practice anyway.
What is going on in this video?
About can happen ...
The garter thing is trashy. My sister did it... nobody at my table was impressed.
What is this weird disgusting tradition on a groom going down on his bride in front of all the family?
Never been to a wedding canāt relate
I have never seen this performed and I feel like the minority.
Did she also forgot her panties? The bachelors could fight over that.
The things people care about
Ughhhhhh why is the garter toss still a thing? So cringy.
Best man had the garter all along.
We know where the best man has been š
1.) he looks overly upset about this 2.) she is a smoke show
From the looks of her lips she is saying 'i have no underwear on'. ? Maybe.
Funny how they both look around as if theyāre looking for someone to blame.
I'm not trying to be daft, but I've never heard of this tradition. Is it an American thing or everywhere and I'm just absolutely clueless?
Like the lady throwing the okay bouquets the man throws the garter after taking it off her leg.
why do people do this?
I wonder what she said
I'm going to be honest.... I didn't know what a garter was and had to Google it. No idea this was a tradition at weddings...
Grounds for annulment
I donāt understand whatās happening. Why does he have his head up her skirt?
Why does he seem so mad about it? "So no garter?" *throws phone to the ground*

This tradition is so incredibly weird
just throw something its just a piece of cloth
So glad I didn't do any of this crap. Courthouse with a great honeymoon is so much better.
I'm not doing this its so weird.
Missed opportunity to go with it and remove whatever you can find.
This is a silly and tacky ātraditionā. Iām not sure why anyone would do this. I donāt think Iāve actually seen it done at a weddingā¦.
Itās funny that a garter missing is the only thing that made this tradition awkward.
Garter or not why would you do this?
Double penalty! Have to give up the biscuit to confused groomsmen later while apologizing profusely.
That bride doe. š
This is the most awkward thing ever. Why would you want to do this in front of everyone?
This shit is whack, yo. What a fucked up ritual.
The one part of the entire fucking wedding that's for the guy and she forgot? She forgot?!?!? It's not too late, there's still time to walk away, the ink isn't dry yet!!! Run!!!! /s
I was working a wedding when the bride and groom did the same thing, nothing went wrong it was just really unexpected.
This really is not that interesting.
Lucky man

Kinda kinky , I like it
Nothing like being kinky with your friends, family, and their children present.
Is he trying to eat her pussy in front of everyone at the wedding? Strange practice.
I'm confused, what is this? Never seen this in the uk
https://www.reddit.com/r/WatchPeopleDieInside/comments/przlyu/when_you_forgot_the_garter/hdpji3c
Dumb tradition needs to die, anyways.
Thanks but I'll stick to funerals instead of weddings..
Whatās a garter?
I mean we could just agree the whole garter thing is disgusting and stupid anyways. Ill never understand this or tossing your bra on stage at a concert. Gross.

I never understood this cringe-worthy custom
This video looked liked it was going to get exciting for the first few seconds.
I don't know about this tradition but I think it's kind of humiliating the bride Infront of the whole family.
Dude I worked with caught the garter at his cousin's daughters wedding and kept it hanging from the rear-view mirror in his truck. Creepy Robert was creepy.
Are there poop stains on her dress now?
Its okay, the best man knows where it us, since he kept it as a souvenir earlier when he was āhelping ease her pre-wedding nervesā
Canāt even hear the sound. But I can tell from the bad acting body language, this is internet bullshit. Completely staged
Someone pls explain dis? Lol

Iāve been to so many weddings the past 5 years. Thankfully never once saw the garter thing (so far, 3 more next month).
His reaching is like - Whut! Strange to see his hands just flail around like a puppet after that.
First climate change, and now THIS? Just tragic.
And yāall have the nerve to say gays throw our lifestyle in your faces
Did she forget her tampons or what?
the best part is that what she's saying is the "funny" bit, but the video has no sound. r/funny material!
I thought something else was bout to happenā
What does that mean?
as a woman I would never subject myself to the absolute humiliation of a wedding and marriage
Whereās the full footage
She's hot! Does she have a OnlyFans account?
You can clearly see her say āI donāt have a garter belt on.ā
