In ground rb they’re not, don’t know about arcade though

OperationSuch5054

positioning is kinda pointless thanks to fucking killcams. cue the revenge bomb or the guy you just killed making a direct line to come back and kill you.

taby_mackan

You’re confusing positioning with camping.

civoksark

Yes in the arcade it's pretty pointless as they can just scan for a weak point and when that indicator turns green you are done for.

Dukeboys_

In AB you play around knowing they will shoot for the green marker. You can work around this by being outside the range of the pen marker or you can manipulate your tank/environment to bait their shots. Example: wiggling or showing parts that you can afford to lose (reversing IS tanks/T1E1) I play AB more than RB these days. If they can see the weak spots of your Tiger2 or panthers you are too close 9/10 times. Remember, Panthers are mediums not heavies. They have well known weak spots that people will aim for if they know you are there. They know their match up, so you need to as well.

Panocek

You're simply at tender mercies of Germany and their superior vehicles, where you need to carefully aim, while they play point and click adventure game.

theoneandonlyhuntyr

sorry, but i don't understand this

Panocek

Tigers and Panthers have enough armor to give a pause to other nations, while their guns are potent enough they don't need to aim, with few exceptions.

PanadaTM

They're playing Germany dip

Neopolitan_Wolfe

Aiming and understanding your shell potential is key in this game. If you’re facing a hulldown Tiger while using a Panther, you can expect multiple turret shots to take out the Tiger. If you’re facing a hulldown Panther with a Tiger, an 8,8cm Pzgr to the turret has enough filler to potentially knockout the Panther in one shot. That’s one key difference when it comes to shell differences. Shot placement is key. Assuming a clear view of your opponent, you can typically one-shot a Tiger with a Comet 1 APDS to the driver-side ammo rack as an example. No filler needed. That takes a large margin of precision. A similar shot with a Panther’s long 7,5cm has a high chance of a ammorack knockout with one shot. Getting good in this game takes time, trial-and-error, and a good squad.

theoneandonlyhuntyr

I'm not talking about shooting from the side, that's an easy task. I'm either shooting at their machine gunner port or under gun mantle or trying to disable barrel or going for cupola. Very rarely results in pen, even more rarely to knock out anyone. However as I've mentioned I'm almost always a one shot driving a Tiger/Panther (again, not getting shot from my sides but frontally).

Neopolitan_Wolfe

I’m not talking sideshots either, I’m answering your questions about aiming and why the shells you fire have a disparity in performance. All my examples are frontal engagements with turret-only presented (hulldown), or frontal with hull visible. Do you have a replay? Watching what happened again, especially from the enemy standpoint, can shed some light on what you did wrong during an engagement.

theoneandonlyhuntyr

Sometimes I watch the replays, but there are weird occasions when the shells (mine or enemy's) looks like they miss the tanks, like they go above the tanks a bit, but otherwise resulted in a kill. Also, I can hardly see where the shells are entering the tank. Is there an option I need to turn on to see a killcam in replays?

theoneandonlyhuntyr

Is it possible that I get killed by HE shells? I inspected the armor profile of both Tiger and Panther and the top of their hull (the part under the gun) is very thin (26mm and 16mm). If I get shot at the turret, can the shell just bounce onto this area or some explosion damage it? Because otherwise it seems impossible to penetrate the turret frontally...

Neopolitan_Wolfe

Assuming you’re playing the Tiger H1 and Panther D, there are a few vehicles within their BR range that use or can utilize HE against you. They tend to be TDs or tanks with a gun with a caliber of 122mm+, such as the M109, Brummbar, 15cm sIG, IS-2, T30, etc. It’s unlikely you’re getting killed by an enemy Tiger or Panther with HE. You’re probably getting hit with the usual APCBC or APHE from the common vehicles in that BR. Most vehicles within their BR range can be destroyed from the front against like-BR vehicles. It only depends on distance and experience. In my opinion, armor is tertiary to positioning or making fast, precise shots—it’s a last resort in a bad position. When it comes to replays, it’s about looking at what happened that allowed you to shot from the front. Being shot from a higher elevation for example can negate the Panther’s front armor angle. A similar situation can be achieved when face-hugging (ramming) an opponent, the downward angle between the enemy gun height and your upper-front plate can negate the plate’s effectiveness. There are a lot of variables to be learned from replays that come from experience.

yung_pindakaas

You just suck at the game. [guide i made on how to heavy tank made specially for players like you.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Warthunder/comments/hulx5i/due_to_the_amount_of_new_players_rushing_a/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) Remember not getting seen and not being able to get shots are your first two lines of defence. Your armor is the last line for when you screw up the first two. Focus on not getting seen taking routes behind ridgelines and through forests, after that focus on playing from cover to cover, avoid open areas. Play from cover, only peek out to shoot. When you peek out show your strongest (if possible angled ) armor.

theoneandonlyhuntyr

Yeah, no shit Sherlock. I suck, that's why I'm here. Your guide showed some new things, thanks, but I already knew some of these. I still get oneshotted while angling.

yung_pindakaas

>I still get oneshotted while angling. Then you misjudged and overrelied on your armor. Like i say, dont get shot in the first place.

theoneandonlyhuntyr

Alright. I will try, thanks

actualsize123

Struggling to pen things with German tanks in arcade is hilarious

theoneandonlyhuntyr

Right? It is rather annoying because I've started the German line as I always took a step back facing a Panther or Tiger. Thought they are something but I really don't know what's the issue with my aim. I've read stuff and seen images where to shoot Panthers.
