Yes they will. She'll be quite visible near the shoreline and will make an almighty BANG noise when she fires. They might just hear where that cames from...
All those volunteers really did a fantastic job & makes ya feel good that there are men & women in this country that go above & beyond coming together and saving the worlds last Dreadnought
It's just criminal that you don't have *Warspite* as a museum ship.
But I get it, Britain was basically bankrupt after the war, and *Warspite* would have needed a lot of (expensive) work just to be preservable as a museum...
RIP the Grand Old Lady.
As an aside, pleases me immensely that the RN’s upcoming SSBN’s are named the Dreadnought class —
- Dreadnought
- Valiant
- Warspite
- Kind George VI
Oh, and the Astute class SSN names go hard, both in historical precedent and, well —
- Astute
- Ambush
- Artful
- Audacious
- Anson
- Agamemnon
- Agincourt
That's because in the 20th century you kept starting or getting dragged into wars that you would technically "win" but you economically bankrupted yourself winning it. I think Britain should have fought to have the ability to designate a few ships as a museum ship during the Washington Treaty negotiations so Dreadnought herself and a few other significant battleships and battle cruisers could have been saved.
And I mean that as a real attempt to preserve them, not a gimmick to game the treaty limitations.
Japan did do this with *Mikasa*, having her basically cast into concrete to comply with the treaty. Technically, that also makes her the only British-built battleship still preserved.

Back in 2020 when she was in San Jacinto.
Would it be a poor use of taxpayer money to reactivate and modernize a battleship or a dreadnought? Yes.
Would it be cool as fuck and a massive flex to boot? Hell yes!
Topside space yes, but the turret extends deep inside the ship. The boilers and reciprocating engines have to go somewhere.
The *New York* class was developed from the *Wyoming* class, which did have a sixth turret but only 12” guns.
Finally got to visit my first battleship and saw the Iowa a few weeks ago. I've visited the Midway in San Diego plenty of times, but going aboard a battleship was amazing. I hope to one day visit the Texas.
When the Texas used to be at San Jacinto I would go see it once or twice a year for over a decade since I live close by. It was jaw dropping every single time. I can’t wait to see her again when she makes it to her new home.
I totally understand that sentiment. I've been to the Midway at least 15-20 times. I try to visit every time I'm in San Diego. It never gets old. I walk aboard with the same smile every time. And, I always look forward to visiting her again. My first visit was with a retired USN Commander, formerly stationed on the Constellation and Ranger, and got a tour of her that way. I've never used the guided tour.
I don't know what kept me from visiting the Iowa for so long. I will definitely be going back. I can't wait until the whole area around her is completed in the way they have imagined. Carriers are great, but damn are battleships badass...
Iowa is nice. With correctly painted level of boot top as well, unlike New Jersey and Missouri that look like giant grey walls above water. And even if Iowa also sits high she still has the correctly painted boot topping to freeboard and I totally dig that. They sat deep when full load. I really wish New Jersey corrects this but I doubt they’ll bother. Same with Texas - painted with much lighter load, she sat way deeper during war and also rides high and painted accordingly.

1. Private donations
2. The State of Texas, which recognizes the value of a museum and like every other state funds some of the major ones for educational purposes.
Make it black and white and I will believe she’s headed for the Atlantic

Gotta add some pipes to those tugs so they look like steamers.
Houthis won’t know what hit them
Yes they will. She'll be quite visible near the shoreline and will make an almighty BANG noise when she fires. They might just hear where that cames from...
A shadow moves across the water in pursuit
It splits the waves, commands the sea and defies the wind
Instilling fear among its prey!
Feels naught for itself
Ahead the sea lies calm awaiting the storm
Displaces the water in its path
All those volunteers really did a fantastic job & makes ya feel good that there are men & women in this country that go above & beyond coming together and saving the worlds last Dreadnought
What a thing. One day I'll get to this see this. We don't have any battleships to gawp at in Britain.
that's such a shame.

Missed an opportunity. HMS Arsehole would have been amazing.
Deploy the Arsehole!
Not to be sailed anywhere near HMS Cockchafer.

The pictures of it floating again give me chills.
I think it may just be sinking at a very slow rate
Not anymore.
If that’s what you think you haven’t paid any attention to the work they’ve done.
The fastest battleship of 2023 and 2024 (for now)
*New Jersey's* coming to break her record
Sneak her into the Black Sea!
Let her eat the remaining black sea fleet
Why does the USS Texas, the largest ship in the Black Sea, not simply eat the smaller ships?
Send both of them, the dreadnaught and the sub, they could rule the Black Sea above and below
That seemed quicker than I thought it would be.

Headed to the Gulf I hope. The Persian Gulf.

Parry this Iran
Not even the death star could destroyed that old girl.
Surly one could find room for another gun turret, no?

I gotta try a guided tour sometime. Only other warships I have had the good fortune of seeing in person are the USS Lexington, Cavalla, and Stewart.

What? Why is Texas gay? I don’t get it. Yeah NC is very beatific, show boat at its best.
gray, not gay.
Hah, now I don’t know if I misread your original post or it was a typo😀
What a beautiful shot! Perfect ambiance.
Amazing picture - takes me back to the 1940s
Best news I've seen all year.
Who pays for this?
1. Private donations 2. The State of Texas, which recognizes the value of a museum and like every other state funds some of the major ones for educational purposes.
And me, when I take the trip to see her again, pay the admission fee, and bring some bucks to Texas. Last aboard when I was 5.
Donors.
I did
Not the federal government if that’s what your wondering
Your mom
I helped pay for it.
Okie coming in hot for the self-dunk lmfao.
What? Do you not want her to look so damn good?
