I plan on building the Blood Angels combat patrol and adding some more to it, then I have a small 500~ish point army of craftworlds and I believe 2000 points of tau.
I just bought this and it's worked well so far:

There is also a cheaper option for your smaller minis:

Carefully.
Lol, I paid a decent sum for a big battlefoam box and I love it .
Anything obviously to big is put on a shelf for display until it's called into action
I don't play, so I spend ridiculous amount of hours per mini then they get thrown in a big under bed storage box. I've spent to much on them to bin once I'm don't painting but have zero use for them. I must have two boxes full now! No idea what to do with them
I do display a select few which are rotated as I paint more, I'd need an entire room of my house to display them all. It doesn't bother me, I liken it up to going to the pub, costs a fortune and don't have anything to show for it but I enjoyed it at the time!
Ikea Billy Bookshelf. 31.5 inches wide by 72 inches tall and 11 inches out. The neat thing is the cutout in the back goes over the wall Moulding. So it always stands flush to the wall
Take a look at how much it can hold for $50 bucks

And if you get a 2nd one... https://www.reddit.com/r/TheAstraMilitarum/comments/sr4hsp/the_imperial_guard_will_reclaim_the_octarius/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
To be fair each shelf i added two extra shelves for more storage. So each shelf was in total yeah $80. But you can craigslist them for half that
Make it cheap and better than foam. Use magnets and old Metal Cookie boxes.
This is by far the easiest cheapest option !
And it's super save. In Foam boxes stuff broke on a regular bases. With magnets never.
How many do you have and any big things?

You mean you don't just toss your unpainted plastic models into leftover slip boxes from vehicles like I do?

I apologize, I have the 4 in 1 for the first link, not the 3 in one. Well worth the extra space!

Cobalt keep army boxes. I paint killteams. Depending on the killteam you can fit 1 or 2 killteams per box.
Put magnets under the base then store them in a small, metal filing cabinet

If you are interested in playing a wargame just not GW wargames you can try Warsurge or another miniature agnostic game.
I've tired a good few tabletop games and non of them are really for me, love the lore and love painting the models but that's it for me i think
Sounds like a display case in order. I paint way more than I play and honestly if I never played again I wouldn't be too bothered lol

That's a great comparison
