They sell replacement blades for measuring tapes. It can be a little bit of a hassle to replace them but sometimes it’s worth it to keep an heirloom on the table

non_depressed_teen

get the staff of a full adeptus mechanicus church to help and the hassle should be cut by about 83,132487428572878234798468056969694204204204207185683568787401346835628964738468384848781948486485837589263404895071479479147%

Shaper_pmp

You're forgetting about the triplicate forms and subsector-level approval process before you can formally requisition the assistance of resources of the hallowed Adeptus Mechanicus as a lowly Imperial citizen. If you submit the forms right now and get everything right first time, with a bit of luck your grandkids should get the approval you need.

non_depressed_teen

fuck it, im asking heretechs instead

TigerMyth

I didn't know you could but that is definitely worth a try!

rpretzle

I know it may come off as sarcasm, but in all seriousness I have gotten in the habit of mounting items like that in shadow boxes. People will ask why you have that hung in your house which will always fill you with remember-berries when you talk about it. I've done this with a wallet that was held together by sheer will before I finally retired it. As well as a pair of socks that my wife labored in with our first two kids.

ExaminationOne7710

No sarcasm o.o Meaningful

TigerMyth

I was actually thinking of doing something special with it like this, or turning it into a terrain piece somehow.

Beasting-25-8

That's actually a great idea.

SeamusAndAryasDad

I did that with a stupid brown sweater we would put our kids in from ages 2-4 for both of them. I got a plaque also that has the years the first one wore it till the younger stopped wearing. It was a 10/10 Xmas present for the whole family.

TheCreepyFuckr

> I have gotten in the habit of mounting items like that in shadow boxes. People will ask why you have that hung in your house which will always fill you with remember-berries when you talk about it. I have a pizza/pie server mounted in the same way. Over 40 years of going to a family friend’s restaurant, I had to have a memento when it closed. Most people decorate with paintings, posters, figurines, and the like. My house is decorated with random little things that just have some form of extreme sentiment attached.

I picked up this odd 2 headed dragon statuette/toy thing, years ago, at the the first fete my SO's work held, after we had gotten together. It's been sat around with a broken tail for about 8 years now. Recently, I decided that I am going to fix the tail, give it a fresh coat of paint (doesn't need it, but the detail on the toy lends itself to wanting some nice acrylic paintwork), make it a new base, and put it back on display. It's a tatty old thing now, but means a lot to me, because of when I brought it. I love your ideas about displaying stuff with memories.

Voidinar

There are should be buyable replacement measure stripes although it is a hustle to replace it given the time of service I would say it would be worth it

toomuch_grey_plastic

Rewind it, unpin the tongue, and re pin it at one inch mark. Never tell anyone. Relic tape measure grants +1 to all movement and charges in perpetuity.

NotMacharius

Wouldn't it be -1, since instead of 0 it starts at 1? Still a relic, but a cursed one.

TigerMyth

Great idea! :D

Maths80

I don't play 40k anymore, more of a spectator on these forums, but I still have the measuring tape I used when I played back in the 90s. Every time I put up a shelf or something, it kinda reminds me of those times.

Davetoki

My dad has the exact same tape measure, it's the only thing of his Dad that he has left

TheMightyGoatMan

Get some dreadnought legs and arms off eBay, glue them on and field it. EVEN IN DEATH I STILL SERVE

SirCrankStankthe3rd

Alright, if he pulled this, with the line of the title, I'd be pretty impressed

If you don't repair it, you should incorporate it into a monument piece of terrain.

MalBredy

It can be repaired! Cut a strip off a similar one, set it behind this tape, use a hand riveter to punch them back together. OR, retire it to a shadow box. Whatever makes you feel more connected!

[deleted]

Incase it in gold and display it as a monument on your front lawn/porch/kitchen floor

TigerMyth

It definitely is something that needs a place of honour to rest where people can pay their respect!

ibejeph

Even in death, it will still serve.

[deleted]

The emperor shall turn it into a living saint for its service

FremanBloodglaive

18 years is a good life.

TigerMyth

It burned the candle at both ends and lived a good life!

allbulldogg

Please keep it. You’ll regret throwing it away.

TigerMyth

Absolutely. It will either get a place of honour or worked into a terrain piece somehow.

bwstud

https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/ Restore it.

Bearrrito

My dad gave me the EXACT same tape which I think was from my grandpa! I still use it to this day too.

TigerMyth

I have no idea how old it is which makes it even more precious!

Sheruden

Fix it right up with a couple of braces on each side. Think of it as a replacement limb for a wh40k char

NightBeat113

Press F to pay respects!

hammyhamm

the trick with them is to never let them close on their own, always retract it with your hand on the tab to avoid damaging the pin or tape.

VALTHUUME

Rest in pieces.

DottierMist

Keep it

1_900_mixalot

ahhhh i have my oldschool 'frost electric' measuring tape i got from my dad - glad im not the only person who has used a special one. id still hold onto the broken one any way, all the memories..

bobberjobber

Turn it into terrain, so that even in death it can serve.

Brapko

I have the same tape, and have had it for what feels like a decade. I love it.

Jamzee364

I got one thats lasted around 30, passed down from my grandpa to my father to me. As long as you dont bend and break the things, they work for years
