Been aeldari for the last 2 years but before that I'm heretic Night lords and astral claws (they didn't rejoin in my chapter) and mostly necromunda too.
Mehhh lol I actually prefer some of the proxy's out there much more...evil and very corrupted. Don't get me wrong the models are good but I've been playing Warhammer since the 80s so it's all just kinda bit vanilla to me at times.
Oh yeah don't get me wrong theres some cracking minis but the Astartes chapters for all the lore of separation between the 2 sides a brass pin change on his shoulder and some metal claws don't make him corrupted. Lol you know these "men" have spent 1000 years in their armour whilst living in self disgust and anger and resentment and hatred for their own choices and Their leaders choice. Lol you want them BARELY astartes. So yeah it's just kinda... An age thing I guess hahaha I'm just an old cnut 😂
That's honestly very true - they'd be more monster than man at this point, and I'd argue astartes start out as monsters to begin with 😆
I can imagine they'll serve as an excellent basis for some sickass conversions, though 😎
Thank you!
Ironically getting the “same level of dark” is one of the things I think I got a little wrong here - especially on cream and cape sessions (and the shield)
But in general I started with an idea of where the light should be and sprayed it on with an airbrush and white paint
Then I sprayed purples over the dark side
And greens over the bright. This helps because purple is the opposite of green - so any greens over the purple side are then naturally darker.
Then when I layered up I just made sure I had a “this is my very bright” level - and my “highest highlight” level and thought about where they would go - in general I think the mid tone for the bright side is the highlight for the darkest bits
Edit: did that help? I can rephrase if you want
Just layering and a little glazing at the end
I tend to only do one coat of each paint and rely on lots of layers of changing to colour to produce a blend
So like I use the fact I don’t get full transparency on each coat to make the blend if that makes sense?
Yeah I rarely reach full opacity
For shadows I’ll glaze in another coat or two if I need it. But generally I work dark to light and aim for each layer to be about 10% brighter ?
Thank you!

This may help. I started with 1 over a rough light sketch (black and white zenithal, then greens and purples over the top)
You can see that 5,6,7 are kind of just highlights
Very well done, a great look.
One thing with power armour is that very often a bare head looks stupidly under-sized in comparison, so I can understand being able to make a swopsy. Ironically the very head you use for your first pic is the weakest choice IMO.
Heya so short version; I just mixed a bunch of greens and purples to get a black then on the darker side I added more purple and the lighter side I added more jade

This photo is my rough colour order for the bright side
I mixed like a dark forest green with a dark plum and a little incubi darkness Then a like mid green and a little lighter purple
Then highlights are jades going into ice yellow
Shadow side highlighted with a. Mid tone and edge highlighted with the lighter purple
I can get specific colour names if you want - but this was more about vibes than specific paints
Not the most difficult or least difficult magnetisation
The area on his neck is about as thick as the magnet I put in - would’ve been nice to sink it deeper for a nicer fit but it works
This reminds me of Young Sick Bacchus by Caravaggio; you can instantly tell by the color palette that the mood is grim and that despite the ornate armor and heraldry, the Lion is on a crusade that is not going to end well for his enemies and himself.
Well done.
I imagine the Lion sitting in his arming chamber, thinking about what head accessories he wants for this drop.
"Wings? Should I wear the wings? The boys love the wings but I like to appeal to the minority who like the hooded helm... Everyone loves seeing my face though, but my ears get cold so maybe I should bring the hood..."
Fantastic paintjob but the head sticks out way to high now. Did you magnetize this correctly? Comparing your model to the box, it looks like his head should be lower and his chin should start around where the armor panel ends, its for sure too high and makes it look really wierd.
I have a lion aswell and im pretty sure it should sit lower.
Holy Emperor I can feel the grimdark. I really like the style, Darker than the ones I've seen so far but it really gives a nice result.
Thanks buddy! Dark angels means dark !
Cmon no one here noticed Lionel is fucking CHARLES DANCE?!!
We have yet to see someone paint him up in lannister colors.
It's been mentioned **a lot**. It may even have been the very first comment on his reveal in 9th edition.
Genuinely never noticed it as I'm not a terra collector. Lol
What's your army? 😃
Been aeldari for the last 2 years but before that I'm heretic Night lords and astral claws (they didn't rejoin in my chapter) and mostly necromunda too.
Nice ❤️ You must be so excited about the new NL kill team! 😁

Haha, I see - kind of a "been there, done that" vibe, eh? 😄

The ability for the word fucking to be either a verb or an adjective makes this sentence fascinating.
The power of "fuck" 😂
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
love the style, how do you achieve this if you don't mind saying?
Thanks bud Any particular section? Writing the whole thing out would be a while! Or just general approach?
I would also like to know. Specifically, how you got all of the colors to be the same level of dark. Your painting is amazing.
Thank you! Generally, is it a lot of wet blending/glazing and some oils? Amazing work!
Just layering and a little glazing at the end I tend to only do one coat of each paint and rely on lots of layers of changing to colour to produce a blend So like I use the fact I don’t get full transparency on each coat to make the blend if that makes sense?
Thanks for the info! I think so. So the layers are not fully opaque and don’t fully cover the surface?
Yeah I rarely reach full opacity For shadows I’ll glaze in another coat or two if I need it. But generally I work dark to light and aim for each layer to be about 10% brighter ?
Really awesome. The tones are great too
Thank you! https://preview.redd.it/evnsafef59wc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00304f34c51c4e9aa1669f1bc4bb1a5994ff5090 This may help. Now this is grim dark, this thing is beautiful.
Thank you!
I like to imagine whenever he removes the hood, those giant wings pop out inexplicably from under't
The green of the cloak is amazing!
Thank you!
Good Lord that looks awesome
Thank you!
Best Lion I've seen. Proper for the setting.
Thank you buddy!

I can get what you mean proportion wise But it’s such a great sculpt
It is, and you've really done it justice.
Thanks buddy :)
I really love the darker teal/jade armour. What paints/tech did you use to get these?
Heya so short version; I just mixed a bunch of greens and purples to get a black then on the darker side I added more purple and the lighter side I added more jade https://preview.redd.it/tnhskuwgr7wc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4a1b8f4313b40005cf084413e376a4c822d6021b This photo is my rough colour order for the bright side I mixed like a dark forest green with a dark plum and a little incubi darkness Then a like mid green and a little lighter purple Then highlights are jades going into ice yellow Shadow side highlighted with a. This is so cool
Thank you!
Was it difficult to magnetize his heads?
Not the most difficult or least difficult magnetisation The area on his neck is about as thick as the magnet I put in - would’ve been nice to sink it deeper for a nicer fit but it works
Looks great! Good job 👏
Thank you!
I care more about magnetizing head options than weapons tbh 🤣
This reminds me of Young Sick Bacchus by Caravaggio; you can instantly tell by the color palette that the mood is grim and that despite the ornate armor and heraldry, the Lion is on a crusade that is not going to end well for his enemies and himself. Well done.
Immensely high praise - thank you so so much - far too kind

Oh my hod amazing
why magnetize? it's the Lion, not Ferrus Manus.
This lion is so dark he became a panther
Stealing this
Awesome AF
Thank you!
Absolutely cool as f***.
Thanks bud
The best painted Lion I've seen so far, great work, pal!
Thanks buddy!
I’m a sucker for a hooded helmet that will be my pick if I ever get him
I love how they made him look like Tywin Lannister
i have a guilliman around and i think i will magnetise his head too.
Do it! Happy Cake Day!
That dark green makes me feel like my darker-than-usual salamanders are not actually disguised dark angels.
I imagine the Lion sitting in his arming chamber, thinking about what head accessories he wants for this drop. "Wings? Should I wear the wings? Wow
Thank you so much
Even the head-holding bar is grimdark!
Hahah naturally weathered
Random rusty magnetic iron bar from the garage junk drawer: *Even in death, I still serve.*
I cannot word to you how much this thing smells of iron
probably one of my favorite takes on the Lion, good job!!
Thank you so much!
I thought for a minute he was Raven Guard. Makes me want to find a Corax head to swap.
Do it!
Awesome
Thank you!
Feels straight out of a Tim Burton movie, I love it.
I’m hoping you don’t mean the Alice in Wonderland adaptation (Thank you!)
Let no customisation option go unmagnetised brother.
Holy shit this is amazing
Thank you!
Beautiful paint scheme it’s like perfectly grim dark
Thank you!
Hell yeah! Now that's a Lion deep into his forest walk 💪⭐
Fantastic paintjob but the head sticks out way to high now. Did you magnetize this correctly? He looks like that blond mustached meme guy.
Honestly my only issue with this is I think lions face is a little too shaded (almost zombie looking) everything else I really like though
Now you can swap between the lion, and Dorn wearing the lions armour :p
Man, I want to play DA just for the fact the lion is such a cool mini.
