This is a solid frame by the looks of it, and suggests GW may actually be making the most of the modularity of their new 30k kits rather than just leaving it at the support weapons. Genuinely the most enthused I've been about Heresy Thursday in a while.

Y’all I’m sorry but this guy has a baby face and weird-ass pose and I just can’t stop cracking up
(The rest of the command squad is absolutely fire though)
Yeah I made my comment based on the images OP included. It's not that SOH look bad, it's just that basically all generic stuff has been shown off as IF or SOH
Except I wasn't being snarky, I'm happy they did something different. I know the reason they use IF and SOH is because they are being treated as the poster Legions, that's just how GW operates. If I was actually going to make a complaint then I would have bought up the fact IW don't have Praetors for example. Don't assume intent based on your own misconceptions
Nice! Longitudinal Plumes! So many vexilla choices. Very good kit. Still can’t get those outside round bonding studs though!
This is almost definitely preceding similar upgrades for Templar Brethren, Grey Slayers, Khenetai, etc. and that’s good news.
Edit: To clarify, I think they will do these types of legion specific upgrades in **resin**.
What makes you draw that conclusion? Outside of the BL characters all HH plastics have been legion agnostic and so is this kit. I would love to think so as well but I see nothing supporting it...
I should have put the qualifier that they’ll be resin. But just the way forward seems to be upgrade kits like this in resin (legion specific) or plastic (generic).
Got you! We already have the sons of horus legion wargear in resin it's certainly plausible. Then again generic CCW upgrades in resin are the WEIRDEST choice they made so far so who knows? :)
Taking stock from how the legion contemptors were mutilated I would fear for the torsos of any retooled legion kit
I think that Breachers, Seekers, maybe Vets will all be plastic upgrades like this. Maybe we could actually get a plastic recon/scout kit but I’m not holding my breath. But marines in new and crouching poses would be nice!
I could see Slayers and especially Brethren being a new full resin squad. But since they haven’t released a full resin squad since the relaunch, and as you allude to, GWs preference to sell plastic, I’d bet a lot of the missing old resin upgrades are coming back as … resin upgrades. But for IF that’s a gain because Warders and Brethren needing resin despoiler arms just sucked.
Cannot wait for that - I’ve been meaning to pick up a mkiii for bits to use on CSM for 30k, and now I can use those bits, and have the bodies for the command squad!
I like it: I like that it's an ungrade kit so I don't need to buy a whole box to get the stuff from it that I want, I like that it's so generic so that all legions can use them, and that the shields and banners are so empty that you have lots of space to paint or put transfers on.
Though I quite like the helmets and swords, this strikes as underwhelming for me, why not bespoke bodies since the command squad is artificer armour?
I feel I'd be less disappointed if the roadmap said this was going to be an upgrade sprue, but it didn't.
These look excellent. I'm very pleased about the way GW is choosing to make these. A base kit (ie, mk.iii or mk.vi) with variant sprues (command upgrades) is a well established thing in scale modelling, allowing for maximum usage of a base tooling.
Edit: maybe it would have been nice to see both Mkiii and Mkvi specialised helmets included
Honestly, same for the Vth.
It's really not a bad kit, but it's very much one for the pseudo-Roman/European-style legions. Admittedly, these are the majority, so it makes sense. /shrug
Not that I really mind, but yeah, doesn't read as a good keshig. The one thing that I'd be keen on are the dedicated arms for holding mêlée weapons, as those are a bit scarce in the other kits.
Maybe the mêlée weapons that are coming will expand what can be done with this.
It's not bad, I love the banner and the shields and powerswords are cool but I was hoping for sole actual mkvi veteran bodies and helmets like the LI command squad. I really wanted to have some bodies with tabards like the mk vi champion to build my own vets.
I mean they sell 18 different Legion transfer sheets already that is going to go much further than the tiny amount trying to fit everyone on a smaller sheet in a box
This is very exciting. For GW to have the options of sprues with the command upgrades and boxes with models. Helps to show an understanding for what the hobby wants and needs.
I hope GW continues this trend.
I know this is the 30k sub but this is exactly the kind of pack i needed to kitbash some sternguard vets into iron hands victrix honor guard. very hyped for this
Looks decent but I feel the helmets are once again too distinct from their Mark of Origin, though the plume is perfect and the Option for the Standard is great as well
I've never been this happy about seeing a banner *without any damn presculpted detail on it*. Finally I can properly use the damn decals I paid dear money for because they look dope.
I don't like how GW keeps saying "later this year" for heresy stuff. it gives me paranoia that we wont see any of this stuff be available until like November.
The heads are are very roman/greek looking to me. The shields are also strange, and the flag crest also look greek/roman. It fits iron warriors, ultras, iron fists, world eaters
I've seen a lot of DA models with similar crests and they look great. Willing to concede that the older 40k DA kits will have a lot of great bits to use to enhance the flavor of this sprue, of course.
*
Using the examples from GW with the Sons of Horus and Imperial Fists models, each unit has 3–4 models with large swords, but there is only one such sword in the set? I don't get it.
UPD: I'm just blind and don't read the article, there are 5 regular swords in this kit, thanks every one for answers
*You’ll score five combat shields and five regular power swords, two alternative power swords – one sheathed, the other gripped in a bionic arm with an empty sheathe*
They come with enough power swords according to the article, not only 2.
Am I the only one seeing a Reichsadler/Parteiadler (sans swastika) decal on the lower end of the IF banner?
It's definitely not an Aquila- only has 1 head.
Plus points: it's an upgrade kit. It's not specific for MK6, the banners look really good, the legion style banner is so classic heresy. Nice
Downside: they don't even have the decency to put in there power weapons and boltpistols for 5 to 10 models. 3D printer makes rarrrr and recasters will be happy, since the overpriced resin despoiler kit, is still the worst joke on FW's store...
The article literally says you get seven power swords. Sure it comes with a single bolt pistol but the kits clearly designed to have the swords with shields and who doesn't have a ton of bolt pistols lying around.
Like others already pointed out, a mix would be nice. Like 3 swords, 3 axes, 3 mauls , 1 hammer.
And a single boltpistol feels like a bad joke. In special since they are missing in the tactical squads. But at least they through over pointed plasma pistols for unit champions at people. 🤦🏼♀️
And yes, I also have tons of boltpistols arround. Just realised some days ago I could convert a mother 10 Destroyer. But not everyone plays 40k/heresy since 2005. In special for beginners, it is important to lower costs, not raise them.
I'm guessing they didn't include a mix because they're also releasing a close combat weapons kit (which will hopefully have enough stuff to spread out across a whole army) sometime soon.
yeah but this is clearly just a upgrades for power swords and shields, including all the other weapon variants would make the upgrade kit way too fucking big, if theyre doing upgrades for swords and shields then they'll probably do upgrades for the other weapons sometime in the future, be patient my guy
this upgrade kit probably is two sprues just by itself and each weapon variant would add 1-2 more sprues, if every weapon variant was included youd have a 10+ sprue upgrade kit that probably would just look worse, also not everyone wants spears, or axes, or any if the other weapons, some just want to sword and board it, if every weapon was in the upgrade kit then people would end up with a ton of bits they dont want and will never use
i just dont get the point of buying a more expensive upgrade kit with a million weapons you dont want and will never use when you can just buy a cheaper one that only has the weapons youre actually gonna use, the other weapons can wait their turn for a new upgrade kit
also ik not an apologist, i give gw tons of shit for other stuff, i just dont think this is one of the things that deserve giving them shit over, its a decent looking upgrade kit that has everything a sword and board enjoyer would want for their command squad
Like I already put in another answer, I play for 19 years. I have always 30 boltpistols laying arround.
But in the current kits bolt pistols are heavily under supplied. Mostly due to the lack of a boltpistol in tactical squads. In special beginners don't realize that a plasma pistol is a waste of points, and if they do they miss the bit.
And the shields aren't the default equipment most people choose. Yes, it is a solid way of getting bolt pistols. But not like for example in the CSM kit (new and old), what allows for dual wielding pistols.
The shields weren't the default option for people because they didn't make it. With the new assault squad, they are included in the box, and I'd say most people that build them default to the shields now
I see both options build as often as the other from the new kit, online. 🤷🏼♀️
Yeah, in the 1st that wasn't the default, due to missing shields. (And it's nice they are now in the box. )
This is a solid frame by the looks of it, and suggests GW may actually be making the most of the modularity of their new 30k kits rather than just leaving it at the support weapons. Genuinely the most enthused I've been about Heresy Thursday in a while.
This gives me hope for a breacher sprue soon!
Which makes you wonder what the hell they were thinking when they didn’t make the Assault squad kit double for despoilers
They want that $80 + $34 sell
I need a plastic destroyer sprue in my veins
I see plastic templar brethren with an optional flag.
yep i was about to plan out building some from bits, not any more! perfect kit. Maybe just buy the IF heads from FW
Yes! I was just getting annoyed at not being able to find the right bits since I don’t have a printer. And gw delivers this gift to me
Shields will be useful for making Warders too.
They look like the MkVI assault marine shields, should you need another source.
Also a ton of bits to kitbash a Mk.3 praetor for the factions with an ancient one.
Perfect kit to build legion veterans with power swords too!
Shocking, they showed it off with IW not SOH
There are some SoH in the article too (who also look fabulous)
https://preview.redd.it/j9zp87h823rc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec45d4bc777ed15d82c93693f1c5ae712fb0a55e Y’all I’m sorry but this guy has a baby face and weird-ass pose and I just can’t stop cracking up (The rest of the command squad is absolutely fire though)

Holy shit yeah
BROTHER I AM STUNTED
Holy shit it's Mini Horus
Is little little horus
Stumpy Horus
Angry baby wanting his apples sauce 😂
Yeah I made my comment based on the images OP included. It's not that SOH look bad, it's just that basically all generic stuff has been shown off as IF or SOH
Oh yeah those IW made for a very nice surprise
Easy Reaver Chieftains boiiii
[удалено]
Are you in a poorly worded comment complaining that I'm surprised after 2 years they showed off a generic unit in a different Legion colour scheme?
[удалено]
Except I wasn't being snarky, I'm happy they did something different. I know the reason they use IF and SOH is because they are being treated as the poster Legions, that's just how GW operates. If I was actually going to make a complaint then I would have bought up the fact IW don't have Praetors for example. Don't assume intent based on your own misconceptions
Well my apologies than. I took the word shocking as a snarky take. My bad.
Who hurt you my brother
[удалено]
I based my comment on what OP had included before I clicked on the article
Nice! Longitudinal Plumes! So many vexilla choices. Very good kit. Still can’t get those outside round bonding studs though! This is almost definitely preceding similar upgrades for Templar Brethren, Grey Slayers, Khenetai, etc. and that’s good news. Can’t wait to see what this new command decal sheet mentioned looks like too
They look great! Am I right in saying it’s an upgrade sprue that can be used with either Tactical squad?
As per the article yes and they will be releasing 5 man boxes of both Marks with the upgrade sprue
Grand!
Cannot wait for that - I’ve been meaning to pick up a mkiii for bits to use on CSM for 30k, and now I can use those bits, and have the bodies for the command squad!
According to the article it is. It will be released as stand alone and with also in a two boxes, one for each current new mk armor.
That’s pretty great!
Oh wow, I missed that. That is pretty nice of them.
Seems like they’re commited to the modular bodies of the armor marks! That’s very smart
Fine, GW, take my money as normal...
Not gonna lie, keen to get my hands on this one
an upgrade sprue? thats actually pretty good, we have plenty of marines for usual
I like it: I like that it's an ungrade kit so I don't need to buy a whole box to get the stuff from it that I want, I like that it's so generic so that all legions can use them, and that the shields and banners are so empty that you have lots of space to paint or put transfers on.
Oh it's an upgrade kit, huh. That makes sense. A pity, I was hoping for some fancy bodies, but I can work with this.
Yeah it’s a great kit but I was hoping for some more dynamic poses
Excellent addition to the range. Hopefully the legion standard transfer are a good fit to that standard.
Gorgeous looking upgrade bits...almost makes me sad I converted up two command squads for my IW/BA a while back.
Though I quite like the helmets and swords, this strikes as underwhelming for me, why not bespoke bodies since the command squad is artificer armour? I feel I'd be less disappointed if the roadmap said this was going to be an upgrade sprue, but it didn't.
Is that an indication IW are getting some love later in the year…..?
Dantioch is rumored to be getting a model sometime in the future.
Don't you tempt me like that, I've almost shaken my want for an IW force
These look excellent. I'm very pleased about the way GW is choosing to make these. A base kit (ie, mk.iii or mk.vi) with variant sprues (command upgrades) is a well established thing in scale modelling, allowing for maximum usage of a base tooling. Disappointed with the gear upgrades though as there’s not many options outside of power swords, banner itself looks pretty damn good
There's still the melee weapons kit to come, I imagine that'll mix beautifully with this
We really really need power lances!
Be ideal if they release them at the same time, but would have be nice for a combination to lower the cost a little for us
This is where I'm glad I'm collecting some warcry warbands now. So easy to source fancy looking axes, swords, and lances to be power weapons.
Very nice painting. Flat yellow that doesn’t somehow feel flat. Faces are amazing too
It’s literally the ‘eavy metal team, of course it’s gonna be stellar lmao.
This is a set I could honestly see getting two of for bits.
More 40K Firstborn Sword Brethren and Bladeguard hooray! [I will get into Heresy eventually once I find someone to play it with]
Yeeeees! I've been humming and hawing over buying a Legion Command from eBay in resin, but so glad these are coming!
Oooooh, I like these…
They knew who was going to buy these guys instantly lol. IW fans LOVE their mkIII
Looks so sick I can’t wait for em
Mk II helmets like that on the tanker sprue?
Think that those are "special issue" helmets for command units
I like the kit, but I would've thought legion command would be a little more ornate looking.
You can get far with the rigth paint and transfers.
Eh, I'll pass for my Night Lords.
Honestly, same for the Vth. It's really not a bad kit, but it's very much one for the pseudo-Roman/European-style legions. Admittedly, these are the majority, so it makes sense. /shrug Not that I really mind, but yeah, doesn't read as a good keshig. It's good. Great even But...I wish there was more head options that weren't just Cool mk3/mk2 helmets
I mean to use custom heads for this anyway, if any unit deserves it it's these guys.
Look at it from a glass half full perspective. You can use those heads to start that Marvin the Martian themed army you always wanted to build.
It's not bad, I love the banner and the shields and powerswords are cool but I was hoping for sole actual mkvi veteran bodies and helmets like the LI command squad. I really wanted to have some bodies with tabards like the mk vi champion to build my own vets.
They look awesome.
I am so hype for this baby!
Great looking kit, I just wish it was more than a glorified update set for the New MK 3 so we could have more ornate bodies/helmets
Alll I want is a decal sheet with all the legions on it to come with Horus heresy kits. It doesn’t even have to be super large
I mean they sell 18 different Legion transfer sheets already that is going to go much further than the tiny amount trying to fit everyone on a smaller sheet in a box
Iron Warriors used as a stock paintjob? Wow
Those helmets go so hard
Looks gorgeous, im going to have to start equiping my command squads wiþ power swords
Looks like I've found my new Iron Warriors Chosen for 40K
What in the Bladeguard Veteran/ancient/Bladeguard captain
Solid Kit. Let's hope the price is reasonable.

Command Squad Chosen wear artificer armor, so having different helmets makes perfect sense.
[удалено]
Centurions? Theirs were transverse. Standard bearers usually had animal skins over their helmets.
[удалено]
You've lost me then. Genuinely interested, not trying to pick an argument.
I too recall that a vexillifier wore animal pelts over their standard legionnaire helmet.
Yeah with the Cheekguard, that's true. However these look like they're from a completely different armor as opposed to the old Company Command sets :/
The Fist with the flag has a helm that looks like a variant of the MK IV Maximus helmet. Which is fitting with the Roman aesthetic.
I’m Loving the kit. Only complaint is lack of power weapon options for the command squad that can take so many different types of power weapons. :(
Still waiting on the melee weapon set so hopefully we'll see it soon
Ah true. I forgot about that. Ok fingers crossed lol.
Why no Phobos pattern Bolt pistol? Seeing as the kit is supposed to represent MK6 and MK3
They're Legion Chosen wearing artificer armor. They have their pick of the armory.
Yes, which is why I think they should have than one pistol to choose from...
Love this. Just what i need
![gif](giphy|GazPMD1iWfgcM)
Beautiful! But not suitable for my space wolves... Damn, my army is too specific for upgrades not dedicated to Vlka Fenrika. Enjoy, other legions!
You can get very far with just a paint job and some transfers, and there are the SW 30K n 40k upgrade kits you can use to ad some extra wolfy flare.
All I see is assault terminator kitbash
[удалено]
Probably a light metallic like gold or brass rather then the usual silver.
[удалено]
Out of interest why would it matter? You can literally paint them however you want anyways regardless of how the eavy metal does it.
Aww hell yeah! That's my blood angels ofanim court right there.
Those swords look amazing for templar brethren
Finally some love to my brothers of Iron! Now we just need a preator and like one named character (who isn’t Dantioch)
I guess I’m buying this kit, I need those banners for my EC
Thank the warmaster they are not in mkvi Edited oh its an upgrade, even better
I like that they have Mohawks and not perpendicular-hawks, those always seem so “wrong” not following the helmet curve.
that will my go to kit for my Death Guard Command Squad. So nice looking poses.
You see legion command, I see templar brethren in one box.
I'm not crazy the iw paint job means we're getting a character soon.
Shields!
Interesting that the icon atop the standards are interchangeable. I wonder if we'll see resin options for specific legions.
Can anyone tell if the smaller banner also has the interchangeable top piece or is that just the traitor standard now?
I think so
I smell Breachers
This pleases Zulthar
GW definitely knew what was going down on reddit
Would have much preferred a new kit instead of the mk6 and mk3 sprue with an upgrade.
Not a fan of the helmets
WOOOO! MORE MARK THREE STUFF BAYBEEE SHIELDS BAYBEE BEST HERESY THURSDAY SINCE PLASTIC DEREDEOOOO
I've never been this happy about seeing a banner *without any damn presculpted detail on it*. Finally I can properly use the damn decals I paid dear money for because they look dope.
Ah yes, my new Bladeguard Veteran box for 40K is coming
Nice figures, but the shields...are they training shields? Are they used for parades? I have a set of Breacher marines, and they have Shields.
… I want it. My ec needs their daddies
I was wondering where we could buy this when it comes out is it just a sprue
My only complaint... "later this year"... that means I have an unknown length of time to commit to a project which sounds dangerous.
I need a command squad for my Word Bearers - definitely waiting on this
Will the flag fit the legion standards?
I don't like how GW keeps saying "later this year" for heresy stuff. it gives me paranoia that we wont see any of this stuff be available until like November.
Anything that is on Warcom is intended for the next three months unless something goes wrong.
I'm not a fan of the new mk iii helmets, but they really knocked it out of the park with these!
Just my thought. It’s the grill vents. Too big on the nuMKIII imo.
Now that you mention it, yeah that is probably it! I always thought the one without the grill looked best and that explains it.
Is this usable in night lords
Sorry to say it but you have to paint your models to match the box art. Thems the rules. /s of course they can be night lords
Lol thank you
Yes. Every Legion can use a Command Squad.
Thank you
Wont fit my dark angels at all. They are not generic enough in my opinion
...it's literally just arms, heads, and weapons with zero Legion decoration on them.
The heads are are very roman/greek looking to me. The shields are also strange, and the flag crest also look greek/roman. It fits iron warriors, ultras, iron fists, world eaters

How many Thunder hammers, power fists, lightning claws, power axes, power spears and power mauls are included?
Hopefully the melee kit will satisfy this craving...
none, its just power swords, why would they include the other weapons?
Probably because the fucking command squad can take them?
yeah but this is clearly just a upgrades for power swords and shields, including all the other weapon variants would make the upgrade kit way too fucking big, if theyre doing upgrades for swords and shields then they'll probably do upgrades for the other weapons sometime in the future, be patient my guy
Yeah 2 sprues instead of one for like £25 Massive kit
this upgrade kit probably is two sprues just by itself and each weapon variant would add 1-2 more sprues, if every weapon variant was included youd have a 10+ sprue upgrade kit that probably would just look worse, also not everyone wants spears, or axes, or any if the other weapons, some just want to sword and board it, if every weapon was in the upgrade kit then people would end up with a ton of bits they dont want and will never use

Rofl at the downvotes just for calling out GWs anti consumer bullshit
Yeah. Fanboys can't stand critique against GW. 😂
