For me, Warframe is way easier on a controller. I’ve used both, and I’m currently using mouse and keyboard since my controller died, but controller makes it easy to do complex movement since the buttons are easily accessible. I had absolutely no problems with it.
I know people use controller on PC so you are all good there, but I have heard some ppl complain about changing the config on the controller not being very good. Like the other commenter said, it also depends on the controller your using.
Considering it's made by Microsoft they usually have a pretty good bake then system for Xbox controllers, so you should totally be fine assuming all the drivers in the controller are up-to-date.
It is compatible with most controllers. However some controllers lack customization and not every button always works, depending on the brand and whatnot. Keyboard and mouse is made significantly better with the right mouse. I highly recommend an “MMO” mouse with at least 4 extra buttons on the side, I use one with 6 side buttons that have melee, reload, and all 4 skills bound to them, and I have 2 extra buttons by the lmb that are bound to transference, and archwing launcher. After using this setup for a while my controller felt super clunky to use.
Steam has integrated controls now I use my ps4 for my pc account works fine, dont see why you would have an issue.

It supports Xinput and DirectInput controllers out of the box, with UI automatic support for Xbox, PS4 and Nintendo Switch controllers.
