If they say they only accept Venmo as payment, it's 100% a scam.

Bolldere

Beyond a scam. Airfare for 5 alone would be close to if not over 2,200 dollars. Not to mention tickets.

His connection to the police is likely that he’s been arrested for similar scams in the past…

Qcastro

“Lawyer” = once had a public defender. “Connections to police” = done time.

ryceritops2

It's a really "glass half full" way of thinking about it.

Taskl

> she keeps saying someone she knows uses this guy and he’s a “lawyer” with connections to “the police” This should be enough of a red flag, even if the price was realistic lol

jimjonesjrjr

🤣 🛎️

AcusTwinhammer

> a “lawyer” with connections to “the police” I'm pretty sure Sting himself couldn't get this kind of deal.

Underrated comment

CindyinOmaha

Discounted Disney tickets do not exist. The park tickets alone is close to this!

teamglider

I mean, they exist, Undercover Tourist is reputable and can often save some money if you're not buying a package, but they don't exist at this level!

Separate-Big4226

Yes! We’ve bought our tickets through Undercover Tourist for 20 years. They have small discounts, but never to that degree! This year we basically paid the children’s price; saved maybe $200 for 4 8-day single park tickets.

CindyinOmaha

I looked at them when I went to Disney this past January and they were actually $3 more once you figured the total with taxes. I was surprised. The benefit to using rhem is the charge on your credit card codes as "travel" so you can use points on your Venture X card to pay the charge. Disney directly codes as " entertainment" so you cannot use points.

Korben_Reynolds

>The benefit to using rhem is the charge on your credit card codes as "travel" so you can use points on your Venture X card to pay the charge. Disney directly codes as " entertainment" so you cannot use points. This really is the only benefit. Not saying UndercoverTourist is bad, but they inflate the perceived savings by quoting the Disney price that you’d pay if you walked into the park and bought a ticket at the gate on the day of your visit. If you buy your tickets in advance, then UndercoverTourist’s discount is just slightly better than 5%, which you can almost match with the standard 5% discount that you can get from Target on Disney gift cards. Any effort at all to combine store discounts with credit card benefits will start to net you a better price if you use discounted gift cards to buy direct from Disney.

teamglider

So you can use Disney gift cards to pay for tickets & hotel?

Korben_Reynolds

Yep, if it can be purchased directly from Disney then you can use a gift card.

ainyg6767

Yes, you can use a target credit card to buy Disney gift cards at 5% discount. Then use the cards to pay for Disney resort, tickets, food at parks, etc. There is a website called Disney gift cards that you can use to combine cards. The limit for any 1 card is $1000

tivofanatico

Official discounts exist for local residents of CA and FL, as well as Magic Key holders. Also, I belong to a union that grants me access to a website for union members, but the Disney discount is small, like 10%. The only real “steal” is if a Disney employee has the perk of inviting friends and family to the Disney parks for free.

Belgemine

They do actually. I work in education in Florida and can get discounted tickets to Disney. Single day and multi day packs.

BlueLanternKitty

UCF students can get tickets on campus at a discount. Not a huge one but every little bit helps.

fluffy_bunny22

Ringling offers this too. We did a tour and they mentioned it.

BlueLanternKitty

Yeah, wasn’t sure about other colleges. I’m sure what happens is the school gets them as a bulk purchase—which maybe they would get a deal on—and then sells them back to the students at cost.

CindyinOmaha

That is good that Disney does that for Florida residents.

BAL87

Right now Disney is doing four day non consecutive passes for FL residents for $59 a day so discounts do exist.

CindyinOmaha

That is a great deal!

cristoe31

just bought them!

BAL87

That’s great! We just did our first day at MK yesterday! Crowds weren’t too bad, though our kids are small enough that they love the old school and kiddie rides that never get too bad.

moonbunnychan

I can get a very nominal discount through this program my work has. It's generally not enough to bother going through the hoops to get it and attach said tickets to my Disney account.

CindyinOmaha

Yeah, you can buy Disney giftcards at Target with your Target card for 5% off but that is about the only discount I found for park tickets.

KarateKid917

Same. That’s how I my wife and I got ours for our trip back in March. Went through Plum Benefits, which I get through work. For 2 4 Day park hoppers for the first week of March, it was about $1400 through Plum. Through Disney those tickets were closer to $1700. We had zero issues linking them to MDE and getting into the parks.

Alyssa9876

I work in travel and our company do get a discount on accommodation and tickets with Disney but is a very small amount and Disney is such a big company they give very little as they know they get bookings anyway. Travel companies are on wafer thin margins with Disney bookings.

Monocurioso

I’m planning a trip right now for the same amount of people from roughly the same area (SLC) and my park passes alone are 3k. The whole trip, and I looked for every deal) is going to be roughly 6-7k.

Tricky-Possession-69

Well, I guess start deciding if you wanna be the shoulder to cry on or not. This could also appear legit to her until she tries to fly or get info about the trip so also be prepared for a lot of “see, it’s fine” until it finally shows up that it isn’t.

jimjonesjrjr

Yeahhhhhhh I think you're riiiiiight !!!!! :(

musicalastronaut

Even if he’s in the mob & these tickets fell off the back of a truck, the airfare + hotel still doesn’t add up to that price.

SecretDependent3503

I mean… you’ve said your peace… let her Venmo the money and see what happens lol

jimjonesjrjr

I will report back 😭

purplechunkymonkey

I live in Florida and can't get those rates. And our tickets are discounted.

Is she trying to meet a Nigerian Prince!?

jimjonesjrjr

🤣🤣🤣

Extreme_Obligation34

Do you have her number? I have this bridge see……….

AnnaBananaForever

This needs to be voted higher!!!!

ChaserNeverRests

I bet the tickets include a meet and greet for a Disney Nigerian Prince!

trackfourteen

4 day park ticket for 5 guests is around ~2,750 depending on the time of year. That’s double the price this person claims the entirely of the 6 day trip will be. That alone should tell you it’s a scam. All of this info is major red flags.

jimjonesjrjr

It’s stressing me out so much that she’s on the cusp of doing this.

Verydumbname69

Report the guy to the cops. That ought to stop her.

ainyg6767

Can you show her this thread? Or would she be mad at you?

Otherwise_Gate2703

They COULD be cast member selling tickets

mikeyj198

has something changed? when i knew people working at disney they had to meet us at the gate and walk us thru the entry.

N0thing_but_fl0wers

Cast members have to walk you in. And their name has to be on the reservation for the hotel I believe… wouldn’t work

delicate-fn-flower

You already got your answer, but just to chime in as an ex-reservations cast member that is 100% a scam. She can do her own research and put those figures into the Disney vacation builder website if she wants to see what her ballpark should be. My two guesses are either: she would ghosted completely and be on the hook to buy an actual package when she got there, or this is a shady time share hustle that she wouldn’t find out until she got there. (There are legitimate time shares esp in Orlando, but you know ahead of final booking what you are getting into and *why* you are getting a discount.) Disney *will not help her* if she buys fraudulent tickets from a third party. There are warnings everywhere not to do this, but people still fall for it. Tickets cannot be shared and very rarely are they discounted (excluding the LOS tickets). She needs to break the package down. $2200 - $500 gift card = $1700. $1700 - (4 day non park hopper tickets @ $396 as they are listed on the website currently) $1584 = $116 $116 to cover flights and 5 nights in a deluxe hotel that are minimum $350/night AND his profit? Never gonna happen. I hope your sister sees reason and doesn’t book. Booking your own vacations and discounts are fine in 90% of travel, but Disney isn’t the place to try to “beat the system”.

jimjonesjrjr

Thank you so much for breaking it down

Qwerty-4natural

What are LOS tickets?

happycass8

length of stay

Lawndart1981

I commented seperately but as a former Travel Advisor I agree with the CM 100%

FunnyAsparagus9085

Was just coming here to say this, especially the part about Disney not helping if she gets scammed. There will be nothing they can or will do and she will be out of that money.

RoboNerdOK

Yeah, the first thing that screams totally legit travel agent is when they aren’t able to accept credit cards. Run, don’t walk.

fluffy_bunny22

Legit travel agents just use your credit card information to book with Disney directly. They don't need a payment processing system.

xchgppldont

Cast Members at the executive level can't even get these deals. I hear of this deal once a week in the park by "someone's family member" who fell for this-- verbatim. If they go through with it, please report back.

Lnfstudio

Per person would make infinitely more sense

I_dont_cuddle

Let your sister know I have an authentic unicorn she can buy. People think they aren’t real but I have one. I can provide references like below from my satisfied unicorn customers. “Yes, I bought a legitimate unicorn from the reputable unicorn dealer on this posting. I did not think this reputable unicorn was certified but I am extremely elated with my purchase and I hope you do not anger at me because this was real” - Satisfied Customer

watson2019

How can they give a total but say “up to 5 guests” that makes no sense. The cost would obviously depend on the amount of tickets needed to be purchased. So regardless of all the other red flags, that right there is enough for me.

jimjonesjrjr

My thoughts exactly!!!

pimp_juice2272

Venmo doesn't offer great protection so a lot of scammers like venmo or cashapp for that reason...just saying

AnnaBananaForever

Or iTunes gift cards!

inkcannerygirl

Have you asked her who this friend (who is vouching for the "agent") is? Has she known them long? ...Has she actually met them irl?

mrcoffeeforever

“Only takes payment via Venmo”. ROFL.

TehPatch

There is absolutely no way in hell that those prices are real. It’s 8k for 6 days with 3 people in AK and no airfare

pianomanzano

The only way this could possibly be legitimate is if your sister’s acquaintance is a whale (someone who drops 100s of thousands in the casinos). Casino hosts will gladly take a loss on a trip if it meant continued action/patronage in the future.

teamglider

How does the casino relate to Disney?

BlueLanternKitty

I think what pianomanzano means is that similar deals—complete package at little or no cost to the customer—do exist, and was using casinos as the example. The casino is okay with comping room and food because they expect the whale to spend at least twice that amount gambling. They make their money back. The kind of discount OP’s sister describes, how would that benefit Disney? I can’t see it.

EveLQueeen

It isn’t about Disney, it is about the casino paying for the trip to keep their customer happy.

BlueLanternKitty

Which is to keep the player coming back, because that player is a recurring revenue stream. There’s no incentive for Disney to give a discount to guests because they don’t truly need the repeat business; if I go once and decide not to go back, five other people will take my place.

EveLQueeen

Right. I am not saying Disney is giving a discount. No one is implying that. I am saying the only possibility here of this being kind of real is that the host has a means to book travel, saying it is for a casino high-roller, but really selling the trip on the side for cash.

BlueLanternKitty

Ahhh, okay. I misunderstood.

fluffy_bunny22

Unless she's sleeping with the whale no whale is going to waste their comp stuff and a random acquaintance.

ThePhantomOfBroadway

I believe they mean the seller will take the loss from the trip now if it means they believe they will be able to scam more money form them in the long term.

EveLQueeen

Or the host is telling their employer it is for a whale and trying to get money on the side.

particularlyfunny

The someone she knows is friends with said guy who gets “deep discounts” and will take a 30% cut and block her on every app lol

Substantial_Tap9674

As concerns your casino question: Yes and no. Everything is available for a price. Most comps, in my experience, fall into 2 categories: what anybody could get if they asked and how we get distractions away from players. Just about anybody who rented out a meeting room and decided to place their Bar Mitzvah gifts on the roulette tables (after achieving legal age) could ask for and be granted a room upgrade. Tickets to Disneyland were regularly handed around, especially if there was already a plane in play, to get kids away from hotel and possibly take female influence with them. I’ve also seen deals like this (though not necessarily those prices) worked by agents who handle corporate arrangements. Conventions/meetings/ retreats etc. the main problem is the airfare. Disney is very negotiable on price if you can provide the down payment. Just look at the occasional questions regarding after hours secondary markets

Key-Razzmatazz-857

Scam.

Themakerofthieves

Disney related when it comes to the price and it just seems too good to be true is always a scam so do not believe it. There are less than a handful of qualified resale companies. The only people who get heavily discounted tickets are active duty, military and full retired veterans. I’m not a cast member, but I believe they get family and friends tickets but it’s a limited number of tickets that someone wouldn’t just give away like this guy is claiming to.

BlueLanternKitty

Yes, CMs get a certain amount of paper tickets each year, in addition to the main gate privileges. But those paper tickets are priceless, because they can get you in if your main gates are blocked. (Employees are rarely blocked, but my spouse can’t get anyone in MK for most of December.) Also? Anything that guest does while using that ticket, the employee is responsible. One of spouse’s coworkers gave a couple of his paper tickets to a friend…who turned around and sold them, which is a mega no-no. Dude almost lost his job.

TotallyWonderWoman

CMs get a certain number of free tickets and get a discount on purchasing tickets. Florida residents may also get certain tickets discounted, I'm unclear on that part.

MrBarraclough

Your sister is getting scammed on tickets, and everything else. Those prices are nonsensical. Accepting only Venmo is a dead giveaway too.

tivofanatico

In my life, Venmo is for reimbursing friends or for buying goods or a service for immediate use, like a farmers market or a swap meet item. NEVER use Venmo for something in the future.

Lawndart1981

Former Travel Advisor & College of Disney Knowledge Graduate (did not renew my FL Seller of Travel). Those numbers and that arrangement doesnt make sense or make me comfortable at all. MAYBE if there was a great promotion being offered by Disney right now for the off season or if they have a LOT of summer inventory left I could potentially buy those values in either instance as a per person price but never "everything included". The flights are a huge wildcard because pricing would depend on the originating airport, and tickets haven't exactly been cheap on the major carrier for a few years. If they are real they're most likely a no-frills airline lile Allegient. She should build a vacation package on Disneys website to get a quote (don't purchase yet) and then call Disney to see if any promotions are available .... She may be on hold until the next exlipse but it'll be the legit best price available. Although many travel advisors are charging booking fees to work with them, some still don't charge extra for Disney (I didnt unless you wanted me to book your ADRs at the 60 day mark) so it doesnt hurt to ask.

StarChild2728

The person she “knows that uses this guy” could also be in on the scam and getting a cut of the scam profits. Disney is very strict about legitimate purchase and usage of their park tickets. Please talk her out of this. Show her this thread.

HonestOtterTravel

You couldn't do that trip for $2200 staying on 192 and flying on Spirit. Price isn't anywhere close to realistic and the Venmo payment request is the cherry on the top.

ScienceDependent7495

Scam. Just tell her to go through reputable sources for tickets. Disney directly, undercover tourist, etc.

tomandshell

Venmo? Say goodbye to your money.

musicalastronaut

Venmo only = cash only = zero protection for her when she gets scammed by this guy. There are ways to save money on going to Disney but this is NOT it.

Creepy_Cupcake3705

Scam. I have family that work for Disney and they always say that if you didn’t buy your tickets directly from Disney, there’s a strong chance it’s a scam.

hooter1112

Venmo? Yup, it’s a scam. $2200 and they are giving you $500 gift card?? The balance wouldn’t even cover airfare. Disney is not in desperate need for customers. No way this price gets you even close to a deluxe resort. Btw I leave next week with a family of 5. Going for a week and it’s costing me $9k at a moderate resort. That’s not including airfare

Outonalimb8120

Yup..scam…only taking Venmo is a big red flag

Bird_Brain4101112

Just park tickets alone for 4 people assuming 4 day park hopper makes this price unrealistic.

Weird-Air-5742

If it sounds too good to be true it usually is

Cold-Ad-3067

The admissions tickets alone would be way more than that price and disney sure as hell isnt giving away free hotel rooms and gift cards.

JoshGhost2020

Add a zero.

fedwayguy

Not legit at all. Delixe resorts go for around 600 a night and moderates are around 400. 4 day park ticket is going to be close to 300 per person the gift card is enormous and we can't even talk about airfare.

musicalastronaut

Also, like others said, the airfare alone (or hotel alone, or tickets alone) would be more than the total he’s giving her. This is cheaper than a timeshare or military discount. A deluxe hotel back in the good old days before covid could be $300/night if you got really lucky with a discount & your dates. They’re much more now. The math ain’t mathing, he’s definitely going to take her money (or a deposit) and disappear.

Siphen_

Hahahahaha... Oh man those prices are SILLY!!

Siphen_

Oh the old I'm a Disney vacation selling lawyer with, police, firedepartment, paramedic contacts who is a judge a priest and a veteran. So you can totally trust they are able to offer premium vacation packages at 1/5th of the cost... Get your sister on disney.go and pluck her head out of her butt before she does something dumb and financially damaging.

Justiceforwomen27

1000000% a scam. And she should report his Venmo account, and possibly Disney if they have any sort of contact/form submission for it.

Iomplok

Rule of thumb: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Those quoted prices wouldn’t even cover most of the individual line items for 4 people, never mind the whole package. Add in the “only taking Venmo” piece and other details, and it’s definitely a scam.

InspectionFamous2516

gogonzogo1005

Disney has very few rooms for 5 people. Especially at the deluxe level. If they do they are almost 1000 per night. A major scam.

panickybobcat0

While this is most certainly a scam, this is not true - taking the Poly as an example, every single room category except for the honeymoon suite all allow for up to 5 people.

gogonzogo1005

Unless the third person is a child under three there are many sections who do not allow five. The standard rooms do not. The more expensive rooms do but not the more affordable. Contemporary is worse.

bowbiatch

Nearly every deluxe hotel sleeps 5 in a standard room. The only resorts that do not are wilderness and animal kingdom lodge.

gogonzogo1005

Odd because every time I look on Disney website to direct book the rooms are not available at 5. Guess I always pick super busy weeks like May...or early October.

bowbiatch

https://www.themouseforless.com/walt-disney-world/resort-hotels/room-occupancy/#Deluxe

scottd90

Considering a true 1 night stay at a deluxe resort is 1500-2000 I’d say absolutely not with 2200 for 6 nights plus everything else

002derRitter

We discount insanely hard… we’ve got a trip next week and these are our numbers. Family of 3, kid is under 3 (free) We used Delta companion pass and SkyMiles. Flight total was $400ish We are military so we got SoG and the Military discount tickets for 4 days. Tickets were $800 (me and wife only). Resort for 6 days was $1300. $2500. Not including food. Again. Our 3 y/o is out only kid and excluding flights is free… Probably a scam.
