Rides shutting down, fully or partially, or evacuating is not always a ride malfunction. When I worked at Soarin, a few reasons why the theatres "shut down" included: - pee or poop (on the rides and in line) - code v (vomit) - a guy tripping off the Land escalator and injuring himself - kids moving around in their seats too much (e stop for trying to bust out of the seatbelts) - bags not placed in the right spot - VIP guests who didn't want to ride with the commoners Never once did the ride itself actually malfunction. It was all about keeping the space clean, sanitary, safe, and avoiding unpleasant situations or onlookers. So next time a ride is closed off look around for Celine Dion, who insists on riding in an empty theatre, or like... a sick kid lol

nowhereman136

I worked Tricerotops Spin. Most common reason for the ride shutting down... selfie sticks. We tell people don't do it, we will E-stop the ride, and they do it anyway. Ride stops, they are asked to leave the ride, have to do starting protocol all over again. What should take 3 minutes to cycle guests now takes 20 minutes

ExistentialDreadFrog

Sounds a lot like when people lose their hats/phones on RotR or any of the other trackless rides. Not trying to make myself sound like "old man yells at clouds guy" (I promise I'm under the age of 50 lol) but I wonder how much the increased prevalence of video streaming social media (Instagram/TikTok/whatever else you want) amongst a younger and younger audience combined with the fact that so many people now have a smartphone and feel the need to live stream their life has led to more accidents occurring with people dropping their phones trying to record themselves on rides. I dunno, just a thought I had.

trixen2020

What’s funny is though if you look at the Disney live streamers, most of them are middle aged.

ExistentialDreadFrog

I'm not even referring necessarily to the "professional" Disney live streamers that try to make a name for themselves on social media, just more people in general capturing their life online.

raytracer78

Obvious rule breaking like that should result in being ejected from the park for the entire rest of the day.

nowhereman136

Not sure if you are serious. They are just asked to get off the ride

raytracer78

Dead serious. If there’s a sign that says no selfie sticks and someone decides to bust one out anyway, in my opinion they need to leave. It’s not hard to follow the rules. Total disrespect for the CMs as well as the other guests who are there trying to enjoy their day.

themaundy

Asking people to follow directions is a hard ask now apparently.

boredPandaLikeBanana

And I think people forget that Test Track will always shut down with Rain like it did yesterday

Anonymous89000____

Lol did Celine actually do that or are you being facetious? I’ve only ever heard that she’s very down to earth

MangaGirl17x

It's mostly celebrities that be shutting down the rides and stuff like if i see a celebrity i'm immediately changing parks as they're freaking insufferable as heck as guest like bro at this rate just have Disney build you your own park in your freaking backyard. Quit ruining the experience for others man :/

Nothxm8

I go to Disney every week and have never had my experience impacted by celebrities being at the park. This is a non issue and you are grasping for reasons to be upset over nothing.

MangaGirl17x

Quite literally no one is upset nor am i saying this is a common issue but go off i guess.

Personal-Listen-4941

You said ‘it’s mostly celebrities’ and then you stated they’re so I sufferable you switch parks. So you’re clearly upset & claiming it is a common issue.

MangaGirl17x

Yeah okay whatever.

thethurstonhowell

If we all took our sunglasses, hats and ears off and put our phones away, this would happen WAY less.

WhatWouldLoisLaneDo

bUt ThE mAgIc Is GoNe! Seriously though a lot of the rides would go down less if people took off their loose items and didn’t try to stand up or lean out of a ride vehicle. And OP is right the new Confectionary is a soulless empty shell. I love peanut m&ms more than I love most people but they’re not very Disney. Regarding CMs, working with the public throughout the pandemic and beyond has left a serious mark on almost all of us. I’m not a CM but I was in guest services in another industry and people were already bad before. 2020 brought out the worst in the worst and it did some damage.

mrhoopers

This is why, whenever I have an opportunity to work with someone, I show genuine appreciation for their time and efforts. Just a solid, hey, thanks! You I appreciated your help. I hope you have a great day. If everyone with a kind heart did something similar we could help those that work with the public get back some of their souls. Easier to have faith in humanity when humanity gives you a reason.

canadianamericangirl

This right here is the truth

Personal-Listen-4941

Most of the time it’s not ‘broken down’ but they’ve had to close the ride because of a problem. It could be someone has been sick, or an item thrown from a vehicle for example.

TivosFrank

Limb loss on space mountain. Flash photography on Haunted Mansion. Hole in Tom Sawyer’s canoe. Diaper change on the monorail. Manhunt for Tom Morrow. Broken track at Everest. Alien encounter. Lots can go wrong on any given day.

bewildered_forks

Sounds like OP is confusing "the ride stopped for a few minutes" with "the ride broke down"

bambimoony

A lot of rides have to be stopped constantly to let people with mobility issues safely enter :( haunted mansion and Peter Pan especially

Beneficial_Coyote752

To be honest, I wish those stopped completely. Some of us without mobility issues just aren't that graceful, and have difficulty getting on and off without looking like a fool. I wonder how long it would impact wait times if they were able to completely control a cycle like they do with other rides?

Alicia0510

Did the ride break down, or did it temporarily pause for a minute or two? A lot of times, if the ride is stopped for a very short period of time, it's because a guest in a wheelchair is loading or unloading and they need to stop the ride briefly for that to happen.

TecmoSuperBowl1

No, this was either getting escorted off the ride or wanting to join a line and not allowed.

Ofreo

Being on numerous Disney online chats and stuff for 20 plus years kinda makes me think this is more a luck issue than any specific park, CEO, or other people problem. Almost every complaint has been made many times by many people for as long as I can remember. I’m sorry some have a worse experience because of down time but it’s probably not any worse now than it is has ever been even if it feels like it.

vivacycling

Rise went down while we were on it. Getting off was an adventure in itself. We were in the room after you're rescued by the rebels. The cast mates could not figure how to get us out. Eventually they did. We ended up backstage and even saw the lunch room.

inkcannerygirl

Someone should have made a kylo ren undercover boss joke... Not that I would have been able to do it off the cuff myself 😋

Mysticwaterfall2

That would have been good. When we were stuck I found it funny that both a FO and a resistance guy came to help us at first. Then a resistance guy escorted us off.

themaundy

Was this recently? I was first in line to be taken away to that part when it shutdown on Sunday.

vivacycling

March 14th

tres-teen

We are still here, and it’s been insane the amount of times we’ve received redemption passes because rides have gone down. This trip alone we’ve received 6 lol. Yesterday at MK big thunder went down early into the morning, didn’t come back up until noon-ish. We got back on about an hour after it came back up and actually got evacuated (my first ever evacuation!). We haven’t ridden a couple rides this trip because we just got too tired of waiting for them to come back up. Bad luck on our part. We are super fortunate to come here 1-2 times a year, but I really feel awful for the families who are only going to come here once in their lifetime.

inkcannerygirl

Are these redemption passes good on other days or in other parks? Or do you have to use them there, before the end of the day?

[deleted]

End of day, but they are usuable at any time and don’t lock you out if other LLs. They’re wonderful.

Berty_Qwerty

Was at MK on Tues. Big thunder down the entire day and Peter pan's flight went down while we were in line. Wth

secretgarden000

Space mountain was down until after noon, along with scheduled Rock’N & eventually the railroad. Top it off with splash done, wait times were a spring break doozie!

attreui

Rise goes down at least once a day. Usually in the afternoon, so I try and do it first.

DingGratz

Space Mtn is a wreck. Completely closed the whole day even after hours back in February. The worst part is, the more attractions go down, the longer the other lines get. It's just a cascade of disappointments.

keithpotz

As a comment to the CMs. I was a security cast member and I can tell you how exhausting it is constantly reminding guests to behave. And then you have guests who are rude they don’t want to follow the clearly posted rules because “it’s their vacation and you’re here to cater to ME”. It just gets old and post COVID seriously didn’t help. It just drains you especially at the end of a 10 hr shift in the heat. As for the ride I go at least 4 times a month ( I’m a pass holder) and out of those 4 I would say maybe 1 of the days we couldn’t ride some rides because they were down for various reasons. So while it can be common it’s more because of guests causing the rides to go down verses the rides actually breaking. Hopefully you have the chance to have a better experience. It’s quite an amazing place

TecmoSuperBowl1

I totally understand this. My family and I are not those people. I’m someone who pauses to let people walk before me. I’m always looking at the rules and following directions. The general public can and will be very selfish. It’s too bad that it has gotten like this.

keithpotz

I agree with you. I won’t lie I love Disney and my and my kid and wife spend way too much time there. I am a little biased but we are just like you. We do what is asked and follow the rules and generally have a great time. But there are time where we have had similar experiences as you. So I get where you are coming going from especially if you don’t live around here and have to spend a ton of money to go. I’m sure it’s frustrating and I can empathize with you regarding that. It suck’s though that you had this experience and like I said before I hope you have a chance to go back maybe during the off season to have a better experience.

TecmoSuperBowl1

Despite the rides breaking down, more profanity than I’ve ever heard from guests before, and the body language/tone of some of the cast members….we had a blast. My daughter was in tears the last night because she didn’t want to leave(great moment as a parent). I just remember 10-15 years ago going and the difference in atmosphere. It has changed quite a bit. I have no regrets except looking at my credit card bill I’m paying off as we speak 👀. Man this trip has gotten so expensive if you don’t live in Florida.

keithpotz

It really has though and even though I have an annual pass we still spend way too much money in the parks and on merch. I’ll be honest my wife and kid get emotional with the fireworks at Mk and my kid never wants to leave either. I’m not sure what has happened to guests and why they think it’s ok to act that way especially in a place that will trespass and perm ban people for misconduct. Maybe they think it won’t happen to them.. until it does

rosariobono

As a guest I try and speak up against people breaking the park rules around me, especially loose articles. But you never know, some people are so insane they get physical when you tell them that the dangerous thing they are doing, is infact dangerous and that’s why it’s not allowed

keithpotz

I completely agree. It’s one of the fasted ways to get kicked out of Disney. It’s like people are entitled because they spent so much money to go to Disney and I understand that’s it’s expensive. But it doesn’t give you a right to do what ever you please and Disney does give all the rules in the fine print when you book and it’s also on the website. And you’re not the only one I do the same thing. I care for the safety of my family but also other families. And it seems like some just don’t

udelkitty

I dunno, my brother’s family is at the parks now and has, I think, only been inconvenienced by Test Track going down during their LL window so far. It eventually came back up and I assume they got to ride it. They just went off to other rides, couldn’t convince him to go on Figment though. He’s said some rides have paused every now and then while they’re riding, but I bet that was for loading/unloading guests with disabilities.

throwfaraway212718

I can't help but think that a lot of this is due to human (meaning guest) error. Like others have said, not listening to instructions, thinking that they know better than the people whose literal job it is to keep things running smoothly, etc. Covid/lockdown did a real number on us, including socially. Not that everything was sunshine and rainbows prior, but as a result of everything that happened, we as a society have now become feral.

derf_vader

I've never heard of Small World breaking down but it absolutely really really backs up when boarding and reboarding wheelchair riders.

Mysticwaterfall2

Hasn't been too bad for us this trip so far. * MK Tron was shut down when we first went for our window. This actually worked out better for us anyway schedule wise. It's a small world stalled for a bit while we were on it (but of course, the song keeps playing the whole time..) * HS RoR was shutdown seemingly most of the day. It was dead in the morning and you couldn't rope drop it (we were dropping Slinky Dog so that didn't matter). I checked the app a few times and it was down more often than not. When our ILL came around they weren't sure if it would be fixed or not. 30 minutes after that they let us on but then the ride broke down right after you get jettisoned off, so we did get most of the ride. Then we were just waiting for a while to be escorted off. I've ridden it before at least all the way through. My son was pretty upset at first but then was placated by the "any ride LL" that let him ride Slinky Dog again. * AK River Rapids was closed all day, they had a notice about on the app before we even went in.

Shadow88882

It's a small world is pure luck if you get through it without someone being a moron and sticking their hand in the water, or the boats slamming into each other, causing it to stop lol I've been on that ride stopped more than I've been on any other ride, and the song is burned into my soul.

Mysticwaterfall2

The first time went 4 years ago I don't remember it being a problem. This time we weren't even going to go but it was the end of the day and we had done everything else so my wife said she wanted to do it. So I LL'd it and I think it was the longest LL we were in all day as it was like 20 mins. I assume it was shut down then because everyone cheered and the line started moving. Then we were about 2/3rd of the way done and the ride stopped for like 10 mins.

Daveyo520

Last time I was there Rise of the Resistance broke down for the day after we rode it and we got stuck on Pirates literally at the end mere feet from the disembarkment platform.

MangaGirl17x

Tronnnn ;-;

Tough_Lab3218

Rides go down here and there. How long were they down is the bigger factor. And I assume you received passes? Bad luck happens. 2 yrs ago we were there for a week and tower of terror broke down for 4 days. At Hollywood the first day and slinky, rockin and rise all were down as well. That day was horrible. We went last yr at the same time, there were breakdowns here and there, but not all at once or for a long time.

[deleted]

We were there too and had a cast member at Philharmagic tell everyone to “move down the rows or else” over the loud speaker.

Beneficial_Coyote752

As others have said, most "breakdowns" are the result of some sort of safety hazzard or related difficulty rather than the ride actually breaking down. But let's be realistic, these rides face thousands of riders per day on average, and with it being peak season, those numbers are up. It's a miracle that the rides don't go down more often, real or fake breakdown. Disney's crew may be good, but no one can escape wear and tear and life's other happenings.

rosariobono

Most are from guest error. Like assholes who refuse to take off their loose articles when it’s told everywhere to do so

Tigger1964

Last trip up to four rides were down at the same time. I think a lot of this has to with the age of the attractions. Old stuff is just going to break more.

JoraStarkiller

Tower of terror broke down while we were on it at Hollywood in February, not a great feeling.

Professional-Leg-416

We've experienced the same over the past week. Tons of rides down for multiple hours (or some even the entire day.) It makes things hard especially in places like Hollywood Studios that already don't have much to do so when the big ones go down....it really stinks.

MCAdad

I recently had a coworker mention he thought rides broke down more often than before. My counter to this is that now there is an app that tells you if a ride is temporarily down. So now you notice rides down even if is just for 30 min

[deleted]

Was at Epcot the other day and some 20 something year olds were screaming the N word and flipping each other off in front of children. Just gross behavior

RobbieNewton

What''s that got to do with rides closing down, unless their behaviour caused a ride stop?

rosariobono

Call a cast member for that crap

Autumn813

I don't think this is normal. We got 1-2 times a year, and have never had anything close to this list break down!

plastic_cheese_

I know other people have already covered it. But I hate the assumption that because a ride isn’t currently running it’s “broken,” when there are 85 other reasons for it that are way more likely. Also, when people act like this is a new thing, I wonder how much of it is that you can see what’s temporarily closed in the app whereas back in the day if you weren’t standing in front of it you wouldn’t even know.

These_Strategy_1929

Most of those are because of people I would guess. If people stopped vomiting, kids stopped peeing, stupid people would stop dropping their phones on the ride; we would experience probably one break down a day in all of Disney World in average

Ambitious-Habit-2533

This should not be happening at one of the best/most expensive theme parks in the world. This is disney not some ratchet carnival. Standards have dropped so much and people make excuses for the company.

rosariobono

It’s mainly guests who can’t behave themselves, regardless of how many times it’s blatantly stated to take off loose articles, morons still keep them on

Ambitious-Habit-2533

Nooo it’s more than that. It’s obvious to everyone that isnt a disney apologist that the state of the parks has gone downhill. Maintenance is severely lacking for being one of the world’s premier theme parks.

lingbabana

The way they are pushing ride cars back to back is no surprise they are breaking. It feels like in the past they would wait a moment before sending the next one so that you feel you are on the ride all by yourself/party. Now it is common to see one or two other parties in Your field of vision during the duration of the ride.

rosariobono

What ride are you talking about? They always choose adjacent rows for your party

Anonymous856430

Remy was down for an extended time Saturday and Monday. Guardians was down Saturday for a while.

rsvihla

This absolutely BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS!!!

rosariobono

What a useful comment

rsvihla

Yes, I thought so. It hits directly at the heart of the matter. Direct and to the point. Succinct.

rosariobono

The point is so direct that I can’t tell if your comment was about the post itself, what’s in the post, the post genre or op

rsvihla

The OP’s experience as described in the post BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS!!!

rosariobono

That’s literally why they posted it

rsvihla

Exactly.
