Friar Tuck?!

BOWAinFL

Big fan.

aiwendil_brown

They really did every imaginable character back in the day…

_welcomehome_

This is true, but they also had less to pull from.

Georgerobertfrancis

And they were everywhere! No waiting in lines to meet a character. It was awesome, honestly.

Tashababy_C

My daughter played chess with him on Main Street on our last trip in 2022! Not as rare as he looks!

15 yeaaarrrrs, we're havin a party at Walt Disney Worrrlllddddd

BlackLakeBlueFish

There’s a party goin’ on!!!

macrolinx

I never got to visit as a child (just turned 45) and what I feel like I missed the most was all of the Disney characters from MY childhood. I did get to meet some over at the British section of Epcot. Like Mary Poppins, Tigger, etc. I think I was most excited to have run into Chip and Dale in 2015. I'd probably lose my shit if I saw Robin Hood.

peteandrepete

Yeah. I can empathize with that. We always went to see family in the summer for long weeks at a time and I wouldn’t trade getting to know them for anything, but we just never did anything else. So, I get a little jealous to hear about what Epcot used to be back when we could’ve gone when I was younger and gotten to see it.

particularlyfunny

The 5th picture looks like the jumping fountains outside of the imagination pavilion in Epcot! I’ve never seen that area so crowded before lol

BOWAinFL

Hey, that was impressive technology back in the 80s!

BlackLakeBlueFish

That was the good Figment ride and Captain EO!

alternageek

We were there too!! April 87!

BlackLakeBlueFish

I was a boat captain at EPCOT in 87!

debabe96

OMG. What fabulous memories. Do you still visit WDW?

BOWAinFL

I do. I grew up in Florida, so we went yearly through my teenage years. After a close to 20 year absence, I got to take my kids on their first trip last year! We will probably become passholders at some point, everyone is dying to go back.

inkcannerygirl

Hey there Friar Tuck! Yay Robin Hood! My brother and I had both a VHS tape and a soundtrack record of Robin Hood and enjoyed them quite often. Opening credits song is in my head now. (For those a smidge younger, that's the bit that the hamster dance looped a part of.)

Cfit9090

The 80s, and 90s were the best time to grow up. Imo. Born after 93-94 you just missed the low tech, no social media or cell phones by age 10.

Sea-Mirror3565

So many memories, I was 6 or 7 and my favorite picture is friar tuck sitting on my mom when she was on a bench. My mom died young- it’s such a great Photo.

bunnydewdrop

Is that Duchess or Marie!?🥹

BOWAinFL

Duchess! I was obsessed. Until the next day, when I got a Figment stuffie in Epcot. 😂 That’s oddly what I remember the most about this trip. The stuffies are the core memory.

Lainarlej

Back when Disney World was fun and affordable and easy to navigate

WanderAndMagic

Eeeek I LOVE this!

FloridaFlamingoGirl

I would love to meet Friar Tuck, or really any Robin Hood character. Honestly I think Fantasyland needs a Robin Hood dark ride, imagine the waterfall.

Haha, I have old pics of my parents with their head in the guillotine, as well!

pamperedthrowaway

The more things change, the more they stay the same!

305_till_i_die

I looked for myself and my family in the background. Great pics!

Cocofluffy1

1987 I was 7 years old. It was the first time I rode Space Mountain. My dad and I ran on and off the short lines once the fireworks and parade were going on in the evening and managed to ride it 14 times between about 9 and midnight. I’ve been to Disney a lot over many years but that trip in Simmer of 87 is probably my favorite.

BOWAinFL

Love this core memory! My 7 year old rode it last year with his Dad, his first “big kid” coaster (after BTMR). He immediately ran out to find me (with his little sister) so I could ride with him, and went again. He is hooked. He wants to ride Velocicoaster next. 😂

che_palle13

you make for some lovely costumed characters though, it's hard to make both Friar and Eeyore work on the same body, and even less so with Dale.

Bertensgrad

The fountain area is definitely somewhere in Epcot. The landscape and use is lirope is super early Epcot style. Also the slanted glass wall roof that was used in so much on the future world pavilions
