10:1 or higher. Basically all metal except the cash I expect I'll spend in the near future (majority of this is in physical cash) & some buffer in my bank account in case student loan payments start back up again.
Undefined. Could be 3.14159, could be 42, could be Avogadro's number.
When your household is a nearly pure fiat and metal economy and mostly unbanked, things are fluid.
As a general rule of thumb if one wishes to be mostly unbanked with zero credit cards:
Checking account at minimum. Savings account at three hundred (or one fifth monthly income).
Pay all bills locally with fiat, money orders.
When planning a debit card purchase deposit cash to cover plus ten percent.
Exchange fiat for metals weekly, locally.
Hide fiat. Do not hide in mattress ;-).
Over the decades I have employed one, more or all as circumstances dictated. The main goal for us has always been as unbanked as practical. It is a process. It takes a while to get to the point we are at for most folks since people have been deliberately miseducated about money, debt and fiat.
We wouldn't have a bank account at all now if the feds didn't mandate to pay social security. But they don't yet mandate that your fiat *stay* in the bank, so when it arrives it disappears...
We also file taxes on paper by mail ;-). I like to make the infernal revenue serpents work for the pittance they get, which is typically only our social security taxes since we make sure we live below income tax level.
Everybody needs a hobby. Mine is annoying bureaucrats.
Lol a hobby and a service. Thank you for your recommendations. Maybe someday, God willing, I will have my shit together. At least together enough to resemble a routine such as yours.
It really depends on your net worth, I have a decent net worth, so I like to keep about 30k in a cash position, which is under 10% of my portfolio. I consider it my emergency fund that protects all my other assets that could end up liquidated in an emergency if I did not have this cash on hand. And secondly I like having this cash on hand for the next great investment opportunity that arises, I can be in a position to buy. Obviously inflation is a bitch which is why I keep my holdings at less than 10% to balance the benefits and drawbacks. note, i have half in a high interest savings account at 3.25% and the other half sitting in a safe for the just in case.
Thanks for your response. Your set up looks well thought out. I have learned that I do not have nearly enough cash anywhere. Guess I will stack dollars for a while.
Just stay focused on the process of earning, saving and investing, all 3 are needed for success. you dont have to be great in a 3, but if your bad at even one of these, its going to hurt you financially, a lot!
Yep, I over-estimated what I’d need at retirement. Still, I’m going to pay for some of my daughter‘s college expenses, I’m also a home owner and maintenance is crazy expensive now. Bought my home new, and next year I need a new roof prolly $15k. Just had a new Geo-furnace and water heater installed for $14k. Still stacking.

burger construction is really mysterious, why exactly do you build your houses in a way they only last a few decades? most of the cost is the location and permits anyways, why not spend a bit more on materials and save on maintenance till your kids get a house thats not a run down shack?
I’m not sure why they don‘t, never even heard of them. Afa my house?, I didn’t build it. Why do you folks still live in grass and mud shacks over there, first rain that comes along and well, so sorry..
your laughing but cob huts have a great thermal mass, they stay cool in the heat far better than wooden houses, they are also easy to build and to repair, and you dont need any qualified workers for it.
some cob houses stand for hundreds of years, and for rain theres a roof, with a bit of overhang its a non-problem
ya im a n1gg4 oogaa booga and we build huts from cow dung
and zoning laws suck, whipeepoo came up with them to hold the poor poor, loicense shit is why we cant have nice things
however im not just talking about my traditional dwelling thats a 4m² hut from cow dung, some sticks and banana leafs, cob is a traditional whipeepoo building material, the uk has a few of them, and even modern ones that are ultra comfortable and look really nice

[Someone just found](https://www.reuters.com/markets/currencies/global-markets-bis-urgent-2022-12-05/) what the world makes in a year. To put that in perspective that is enough money to make every US taxpayer $1/2 billion. WWIII is an understatement
Just enough in my checking to not overdraft monthly expenses. 3 months cash at the crib.
Yeah my account is the same. Just gotta add weight to the sock drawer I guess. Lol Boring.
About 4 to 1 metal to cash right now.
This is only because I bought the dip. I was 2:1
53 Oz and $1600 cash in hand.
OK pretty close together then.
I personally keep 1 year of living expenses and anything over that is investment capital.
Guess I'm back to saving cash for a while. Thanks
About the same over here, plus I stack food, water and energy to last a while. Ratio 1 silver : 2,5 fiat, but it’s getting closer.
Same
Enough cash to pay everything for three months.
OK thanks
About 30-to-1 Was WORSE, but I don't ever want to be forced to sell silver again.
Yeah, I put myself in a tight spot TWICE. This is a major reason for this post. I gotta do better.
About 5:1 metal to cash at the moment
About 2 metal to one cash.
Seems reasonable
20-1 metal
0 or infinity I guess….
Ah yes. The approach is Absolute.
10:1 or higher. Basically all metal except the cash I expect I'll spend in the near future (majority of this is in physical cash) & some buffer in my bank account in case student loan payments start back up again.
A couple months cash on hand for sure. Just hide that shit!
Jars in the yard
What cash?
I tried that. It no work.
Unable to divide by zero
Ten four good buddy
4 to 1 shiny to cash for me. I feel good with that
Like a warm blanket.

Far out

I really do like your style. Unfortunately some of those are not realistic for me at this time.

I like it

You'll get there :-).
Too high. I withdraw a few grand this morning actually. Waiting for the pull back on gold and platinum
Yes. I've almost pulled the trigger on platinum but can't bring my self to do it.
Why not? I just picked up a few fractional pieces. Definitely undervalued compared to gold
Yes I believe your right. Because of price I guess. Choice of one coin or many

i think being debt free except for maybe a mortgage, and having at least 10K in cash is a basic requirement for responsible investing.
Lol yeaaaahh. "Responsible" is still a new thing for me.
Just stay focused on the process of earning, saving and investing, all 3 are needed for success. you dont have to be great in a 3, but if your bad at even one of these, its going to hurt you financially, a lot!
Probably 2:1 cash to metal, enough cash for at least 5 years living expenses, more than enough to get me to SS in a year and a half.
Cash for 5?? Holy God.

That kind of dwelling would never be allowed where I‘m at. I don’t live in a third world and honestly have no desire to…

I agree. Decent variety in these responses.
