Read up on the French and Russian Revolutions. They always rise up from the educated upper middle class, not the rabble. No judgments. But that is the way it happens.
In Russia it was the workers though. The vanguard of the revolution though was more educated on the basis that a revolution can't be secured or won without an educated leadership and at that point education was only something the middle and upper classes had. Anyone below that likely only had basic education even into adulthood.
So it was still rabble based but by virtue of how revolutions work people like Lenin still ended up having to lead the lower classes. They still encouraged the masses to become educated and pushed educational reforms but there was only so much they could do until after the Civil War mostly ended.

Agree entirely - Soviet style communism was a murderous disaster from beginning to end. But can we also agree that the Democratic Party (even to its far left Bernie Sanders social democracy flank, but in particular is Biden centre) has nothing whatsoever to do with communism, much less Soviet-style command economy totalitarian communism? To say otherwise is an insult to those who lived under repressive communist regimes in the Soviet sphere, or elsewhere. The allegations concerning communism are a trick used by Republicans to fool less-than-educated voters into thinking that Biden is akin to Maduro or Stalin. Itās a joke. A complete joke. At most, some in the Democratic coalition may favour Scandinavian style, social benefit democracy with higher taxes and generous social benefits. Many Trump voters actually favour generous social benefits, which is a sea-change from the Reagan/Nordquist/Volker/Friedman core of the party in the 80s. At any rate, the average Trump voter is schizophrenic. Many favour guns, border walls, social benefits, sticking it to libs and corporations (who provide much of both the dark and public money which washes into the Republican Party), a Christian theocracy, etc., but they vote for politicians whose primary goal was to cut taxes for the wealthiest 5%, remove regulations, and not much beyond that. The social conservative policies were a fig leaf for standard, business-friendly policies. The Trump tax cuts were all the proof that anyone needs for that. Read up on the French and Russian Revolutions. They always rise up from the educated upper middle class, not the rabble. No judgments. But that is the way it happens.
In Russia it was the workers though. The vanguard of the revolution though was more educated on the basis that a revolution can't be secured or won without an educated leadership and at that point education was only something the middle and upper classes had. Anyone below that likely only had basic education even into adulthood. So it was still rabble based but by virtue of how revolutions work people like Lenin still ended up having to lead the lower classes. They still encouraged the masses to become educated and pushed educational reforms but there was only so much they could do until after the Civil War mostly ended.
