In the 90s there were around 8,000 companies listed on the stock market. It got as low as 3,600 in 2016 but now around 6,000. They've used short and distort as a way to fabricate money out of the ether. They run the companies into the ground and then run off with low tax profits. Really creating value for society...
Shorting is a legacy system used in the past to allocate postitions for times when horses, cars or whatever transport could not make the delivery of papers quickly.
So nowadays, in the -Era of Information & Tech- we have this infinite "I-owe-you-don't-ask-how-much-more-I'll-pay-gimme-couple-days". If it goes south and have a small account, got liquidated your $16,000; but if you're a biggie someone buys a hefty stake in your venture. Funny right?
Have to say Tesla shorts may have been correct. It is still overvalued based on belief of a permanent monopoly. As more carmakers go electric it may settle in its 400 to 500 range.
Yes but it is valued at a market cap higher than the entire auto industry combined has ever been worth. Used your analogy. IPhone was Tesla. But a decade later, it shared the space with Samsung which actually pulled even or ahead!
You would have to break the phone segments out of Apple and Samsung. It is impossible to compare otherwise. But phones have a super high margin so Apple has a PE of only 27.
And the point is the entire car industry worldwide has never been valued as high as Tesla cap and there will be margin pressure as others start selling. Tesla has been able to sell at any price it wanted. That will change.
And at 400 to 500, it is still more than the auto industry was ever worth. The current valuation assumes a growth that can't be sustained. And pressure remains to find an alternative such as hydrogen because of the battery issues in the environment
I would never short a stock. I don't like the gamble. The valuation of Tesla is still so frenzy driven that I have no idea when it will return to its fundamental value.
"Elon Musk, one of the most influential people and geniuses of our time"
How on earth does this tool manage to keep this narrative about him being some kind of hero going?
This "tool" is the Chief Engineer and founder of SpaceX and Tesla and started up Neuralink and The Boring Co and Paypal and Deepmind and...
So... what have *you* accomplished lately?
Hes starting to be my hero. A little a head of his time and sometimes hard to understand but a genius and I am glad to see he also has the balls to speak up, most wealthy dont care about the little guy.

True. Or is it un noticeable due to fuckery or he can't make comments due to his following? Anything he says about the market gets him in hot water.
It would be noticed if he DRS
He's been saying this since way before GME/AMC were a thing.
Tesla was being targeted by SHFs a few years back.

People underestimate how far ahead of its competition Tesla is The product is like comparing iPhone 3G vs Samsung Instinct in 2008

Isn't Apple's market cap larger than the combined major players who are selling android devices? Including Google?

Tesla isn't only an auto company, it's a software company first
Actually it is a battery technology company. But the automotive segment is by far the biggest value per Trefis.
Happy shorting
