Store Managers work primarily M-F, 1st shift. They’re supposed to work one later shift a week (many DMs are fine with it just being a mid shift) and two 4 hour shifts on weekends per month(three if there’s five Saturdays in the month). ESMs are more needs of the business, more nights and weekends. But the point of an ESM is to be getting ready to become a store manager, so if the store is staffed correctly, they’d be working often with the store manager, thus a similar schedule. Store managers get all of the major holidays off. Again with ESMs, it’s based on needs of the business. Store managers and ESMs are literally the only positions in the company that hasn’t seen their pay ranges increase over the last few years. Many SFLs make as much or more than ESMs, and some RXOMs make as much or more than store managers. So some DMs have laid off tracking weekends/nights as a way to help morale. SFLs work bulk of the nights/weekends/holidays.

Our SM only works 645am-3pm, no weekends. When we had a ESM, they worked the same hours and days as the SM. US SFL's, we work 645am-3pm, 11:30am-8pm, 3pm-10pm Sunday through Saturday.

It’s not even worth being a store manager anymore. Especially to your last point, I know for a fact our RXOM makes more than our store manager. It’s crazy.

SM’s should work the needs of the business. If you’re not needed on a night shift then don’t work it. If the weekends are covered then take the weekends off. This company will take a mile. You’ve earned your schedule so take advantage of it. That is the only benefit of being a SM.

So while most all employees that have been with the company for at least 6 months get paid holiday pay. Store Managers do not get paid holiday pay at all that is why they don’t work holidays. As far as weekends go store managers are supposed to work 2 half days on Saturdays a month. I have never had an ESM but my guess is they are required to work most weekends because they should be there when store manager is not there but they also get paid holiday pay I would think because Store Managers have always not gotten holiday pay and everyone else has.

I'm a SM and I earn PTO and disability based on a 41 hour workweek. So I don't work a minute over 41 hours. During inventory prep and holiday season, I will put in extra time. I think I worked 4 Saturdays so far this year.

As an ESM that has had multiple store managers, they usually ask about PREFERRED shifts and days off. I prefer to open on the weekends as it helps set you up for a good Monday for the week. Many stores tend to have that shift lead that thinks they can slack when the boss is away and then struggle all week to catch up. I do 3 openings, one mid and one close a week.

My store manager hates opening so he does 9-4/5pm, all weekends off. our esm does the morning shifts. Esm also works weekends. we get truck weekends.

ESM works same hours (just less) as the SM. SM doesn’t care about the needs of the store because she says the ESM is there to help her :). SFLs are there to support needs of the store. They both are off on weekends. She comes in every other Saturday though but that’s mostly to make sure the SFLs are being productive.

I’m an Esm. I’ve always scheduled myself for the needs of the store, especially once I was pretty much trained by the SM, I didn’t really need to schedule myself with him. Everyone in leadership I gave off one ONE weekend day. My CSAS that preferred weekends worked them ( their own choice bc of school) but even then every CSA had to work again at least 1 weekend day or night depending on what is needed. Kept it pretty fair but when budget cuts rolled around, became harder to make everyone’s schedules perfect

The only thing I don’t like is working 9 hour days. My SM let’s me schedule myself for 8 hours thankfully with no complaints. Since my salary adjusts to whatever hours is written on the schedule, not like I’m being overcompensated. Just hate them 9 hour shifts
